Worst service ever, especially from management/owner. Just came in on a Friday night, ordered 2 platters of Carnitas (that were dry) & chile relleno (that was mildly good) I'm Mexican so I know how authentic things should taste like. The food took more than 45 mins, which should perhaps be expected since it was mostly full, but other Mexican restaurants in the area are always much faster & better. But as we were ready to pay we wanted management to know about the long wait (we did not ask for a discount or anything ), we ask for the general manager, as he comes out all greased up and not professionally dressed, he goes on and insults us as we complain about the long wait and rudely tells us "it's Friday night and this is not Taco Bell, we make our food from scratch", (last time I checked carnitas, beans and rice are already pre-made-perhaps the chile relleno might have been freshly made but everything should not have taken freaking 45 mins to put together.) And the owner as he identified himself was beyond rude, how is this a way to treat your customers, I have eaten here before but will not ever go in. So First off Mr Owner/ manager that is no way to treat paying customers in your gabacho/white people catering restaurant with no flavor, The albondiga soup that was served to us was freeking disgusting and felt as it had been sitting all day, plus you all might want a new recipe, that is not how albondigas are supposed to taste. I've been to this restaurant ever all times now and I've always been satisfied with the food and service. Each time I get a different dish and they have been extremely good. I went here 2 days in a tow once was a lunch with my Dad and he is the pickiest eater and he was blown away with the chile verde. I had the shredded beef chimichanga and I was like wow best chimi I've ever had. I went yesterday with my wife for diner and I got the chimichanga again and I never repeat meals 2 days in a row and I enjoyed it. I gave some to my wife and she really liked it too. Only went once for dollar beer night, but the bouncers and bartender were very nice. Nicest in town. No cover and dollar beers? good deal! Went pretty early (10:30pm) and the bouncers were joking with us and very smiley. Hate it when they try to intimidate you when you're walking in. The bartender was also great, gave me a red eye for the same price as a beer. Talkative and friendly, finally a bartender I don't mind tipping. Will be going back to try the food soon! read more

This review is just for the bar and nightlife. No cover is pretty great, but the prices for the drinks aren't. $9 for a long island iced tea is pretty pricey for Davis, especially when the drink comes in cheap, disposable, small 10oz plastic cups filled with ice. The dancing is fun, with overly loud, pounding music and space in the front outside for fresh air if you're tired of the crowd inside. Went to this place after someone who's from So Cal suggested it to us saying that this place was "as good as it gets" for Mexican food in Davis...well it was not good enough. Went around 7 pm, and the place was half full...but service was super slow. 5 minutes after sitting down the server took our drink order...and that was it. For the next 20 minutes we were just waiting for him to come back for our food order. At least they were friendly. Finally our orders were in. I got the chicken fajitas and my boyfriend ordered shrimp soft tacos. Chicken was dry and flavorless, I had to douse it with salt...so unappetizing. The refried beans and rice sides were also super dry. It was as if the plate of food was just left sitting out under a heat lamp for the longest time and ended up shriveling. The only good thing about the plate was the guacamole. I tried the shrimp tacos, which seemed better than my entree, it was seasoned at least. I also ordered a mango margarita, I don't know what brand tequila they used, but it was obviously cheap...it basically just burned going down. I couldn't even finish half of it. And it cost $7 for a small ass cup?!? Dang, must be a huge profit margin for them when they use the cheapest alcohol they can find. Decor: I'd give it 4 stars for the wonderful Día de los Muertos" style mural at the corner and for the colors of the walls in the restaurant. The slightly more intense pepto bismal pink color in the women's restroom made me want to reach for same. Service: Indifferent and not very friendly. 2 star. Wait time for simple breakfast items: 1 star--one other client table in the restaurant. Cook must have had day off. Food: no more than 2 stars. Very very bland. I had to dump salsa (good and spicy) all over the chilequiles to make them and the beans edible. My husband stated that his vegetarian omelette was bland, tasteless. Marketing: No signs posted concerning hours. We arrived at 9:30 thinking that was reasonable for breakfast to find from a patron waiting in a car that it didn't open until 10:00 a.m. First we went to Cafe Bernardo--but the line was out the street and no tables were empty so we returned to Tres Hermanas and waited outside. It was raining, but in comparison with Cafe Bernardo with the line out the door in the rain and the demand for breakfast spots in Davis, I guess I should have been forewarned when during our wait only 1 other party was waiting to enter. So sorry. I was very much looking forward to this addition to the Davis dining scene. Pasta? was a disaster, and I was glad it went out of business as it never improved. Tres Hermanas is Davis is every bit as good as Tres Hermanas in Midtown! I have been an avid lover of the Tres Hermanas in Midtown for several years now, and am very pleased to say that I fully enjoyed my Davis experience tonight. As an aside, I did not really enjoy the other Tres establishment-- Sabores in Roseville-- as the food and ambience were not up to par. I have Yelped all 3 Tres establishments, too. Anyway, our party of 4 arrived at 8:30pm on a Saturday night and the place was hopping! We opted for outdoor seating on the huge front patio and only had to wait a couple minutes before we were graciously seated. Chips, salsa, and water were served right away. Of course, we all had the salad with the yummy cilantro dressing to start, and all our entrees were amazing. The Tres in Midtown will always be our favorite, but it's nice to know the Tres in Davis is just as delicious! read more

I've visited Tres Hermanas close to a dozen times and I always enjoy the food and experience, whether I go for lunch, dinner, or drinks. First of all, they can make a tasty, stiff margarita. They're best when hand-mixed by their bartenders, less so when pre-mixed (I think they get a little too weak, but still acceptable). If there's not a bartender on duty, maybe stick with a draft Pacífico. Drinks are very reasonable during happy-hour. The Food is good. Probably the best mexican food in Davis (though, given the lack of competent competition, this is admittedly not saying much). Nonetheless, I find their cheese enchiladas delicious. And they offer a moderately spicy verde enchilada sauce, which is a nice escape from the tedium of mild red. Dinner entrées come with soup or salad; their cilantro salad dressing is delicious. Very tasty chips and salsa too, and I can't find fault with their refried beans. Perhaps they could offer a few more vegetarian options, but I enjoy their cheese enchiladas so much I'm not complaining. ;) Overall, one of my favorite restaurants in Davis. read more

Great night life spot. About a block away from the "beaten path" of bar-goer's in Davis, you'll find some of the best bartending talent in town with Tim and Ashley. The loaded coronas are the signature drink, and a great way to get hammered in a hurry. Definitely worth checking out! read more

We had the Tamales de Pollo and Chicken Enchiladas with the Salsa Verde. Both were very tasty. The tamales sauce was green and kind of sweet and tasted good. The salsa verde on the enchiladas was a little spicy but that's what I wanted so it was good. Salads, chips, and service were all good. Nothing to complain about. Also nothing spectacular. On another note, we got to sit outside with our dog so that was a nice perk. He didn't have to be tied up on the other side of the fence. It wasn't busy at all so that may be why. This restaurant was okay, but that's all. The food varied in quality. The salad with cilantro dressing was good, though pretty basic with lettuce and tomatoes. The peach margarita wasn't bad, but not impressive either. It appeared to be made with canned peach nectar. The chile relleno was very good and not greasy, and I would order it again. However, the "crispy" taco was so bad I didn't finish it. It was greasy and sogged the lettuce it sat on. The meat inside was tough and flavorless. The menu offers different types of beans, but refried is what we actually received. We were extremely disappointed in our experience here yesterday. We arrived for dinner, we were seated quickly outside on the patio. After ordering drinks and food, our little appetizers came out quickly. Waited about 20 minutes for our cocktails, which were not well balanced and tasted horrible (unlike prior experiences here) Our main courses did not arrive for 1 hour after ordering them. During that time, not once did our waitress check on us or update us regarding our food. When it finally arrived, the food was fine. We have had several good experience eating here prior to covid and getting takeout during the pandemic, however, this most recent experience has given us serious pause as to whether we will come to Tres Hermanas again, especially in an area with many other good Mexican options.... read more

The shirly temple for $2.50 was the best part the fajita steak was tough and flavorless (per my mexican buddy) and the quac while good was $7 for a bowl that wasn't too large the bean dip was also good, but mostly beans (shocking I know) and the plate it was on wasn't that deep. Tres has the best fresh and a tiny bit spicy salsa! The Jamaicarita is so good, as is all of their margaritas. The everyday 3-6pm happy hour $1/taco is a real steal, you can make a dinner out of 5 tacos for $5! The dinner plates are humongous too. My favorite is the veggie fajitas, but my bf swears by the carnitas plate. I wanted to like Tres I really did. When it first opened, it was one of the only places you could get actual Mexican dishes in Davis. However, the food is just as sketchy as their club. I ordered the Chicken Mole, and it was nearly inedible. Granted, it is a pretty hard dish to make taste good, but this was just awful. My GF had a burrito and while it was decent, wasn't anything special when compared to the other great burrito joints Davis has around town. Aaaannnnd now to the club. Small, cramped, and oozing with slimebags, no one really "goes" out to Tres, but lists it as a pit stop to other bars during their night. We stopped here to grab lunch after my sister graduation. Definitely regret the decision. The food was ok 3 star but service was terrible. We had to remind the waitress 3 times for my moms water, and remind her 6 times about tortillas for our orders. 3 times for utensils to eat our food. How is it so hard to get the items we need to eat our food! It is ridiculous. We also had to keep asking for straws for our drinks and napkins. We never got napkins. Any place aiming to be a Mexican restaurant has it's work cut out for them, it's hard to provide a quality of meal that doesn't leave people thinking, 'I could get this at a taqueria for half the price.' Tres Hermanas certainly tries hard, and it has potential, but for the moment, the quality of food, and indeed service don't justify the price. The location is great, and they have done a great job with the atmosphere, but quite frankly, a lot of that was done by Pasta before them. The 'Day of the Dead'-esque murals on the inside are nice, but I prefer the patio. The service still had some kinks in it when I went there, but quite honestly, I think it's to be expected from a new restaurant. Everyone is still getting used to the lay of the land. If the service doesn't improve dramatically in the coming weeks, I would be surprised. Our waiter was very nice, and when he stopped by our table, was incredibly attentive. However, it seemed he was serving and bussing the entire patio, so his attention was understandably divided. The food was pretty good. There was a nice assortment of dishes and a good selection of vegetarian fare; it's always nice to have something more than a vegetarian burrito. The Tamales were tasty but not entirely remarkable. The mole sauce was good, but not great. The portions are huge, and all dinner entrees come with rice and beans. Actually, they come with a salad as well. The rice and beans I kind of like, but I don't see the need for a Mexican restaurant to serve a green salad. If it were any good, it would be acceptable, but it's clearly just salad mix from a bad. They do have a selection of Mexican microbrews available; which in my mind is a huge advantage. I had no idea there was a craft beer movement in Mexico. Unfortunately, the beer matched the meal well; the Chupacabra Pale Ale was good, but not that good. Tres Hermanas has a lot of potential, but before they can achieve it, they need to work out the kinks in their service, and do a better job with the quality of the food. Tres is ALMOST there. The food is consistently good, the menu includes lots of veg options, prices are fair, and the ambiance is great. So what's missing? The wait-staff for 30 minutes of the meal. Every time I've eaten here I've had to spend a few minutes trying to flag the waiter down for a refill, more tortillas, or the check, and I've also had both drink and meal orders forgotten. The order is served and by the time you're done gazing at your hot plate, your waiter is gone. It is enough to ruin a good meal when you're also trying to solve a missing persons case at the same time. A nice addition to the slim choices available downtown. I mean how many Thai places do you really need on one block? I digress. Tres Hermanas is a good place to go to if you want a sit down Mexican restaurant. They offer you free chips and salsa while you wait, which a plus. The prices for a plate range from $10 - $12, which seems average for a sit down restaurant. Each plate also comes with your choice of salad or soup and beans. I've had the Colorado pork and chicken tamales. The pork had a wonderful flavor, but the tamales was not so great. Maybe I'm just not a fan of tamales. I do think the service is decent. Someones always making sure your tiny glass of water is always full. I just don't see why they don't offer you a normal size glass for water... Overall 3 1/2 stars. read more

This place seems to be completely new, so feel free to read the review with a grain of salt. I hadn't been to Davis in a couple of years, and while driving by, I was sad to see Pasta? gone, but excited to check out the swanky-looking Mexican spot that had taken its place. Unforch, the food didn't match the vibe, and though the servers were very nice, they missed the mark in a couple of important ways. The menu described each entree as coming with a soup or salad. However, we were never asked whether we wanted soup or salad, nor was either brought. :\ The meals that were brought were done so within five minutes. Which is great from the standpoint of a glutton, but lets you know that the items had been sitting around and just had to be microwaved. Which is how it tasted. And pretty bland. Left me wishing I had paid half the amount for a bomb meal at a taqueria. We had the fried ice cream for dessert; I wasn't much impressed with it. I did like the chips and salsa as well as the drink I had though: a macho margarita. Lastly, though the server left the check on the edge of the table and said no rush, the deftness with which the dessert and our water glasses were cleared off the table spoke otherwise. I'd been once to the Tres in Midtown Sac, and had a very good experience there (good service, good food, yummy drinks), and was hoping for the same thing here. I was also super excited for a more upscale Mexican restaurant in town, and I remembered the food being more authentic than some of the other Davis joints. Well, the food seems to be pretty comparable, albeit not as authentic as I remembered. The chips and salsa are good, and I particularly recommend the verde sauce. Red and mole are decent, but the verde has some great strong flavor and is need-2-beers spicy. Just the way I like it. :) There are a few misses, though. First, the soup (meals come with soup or salad) has been fairly greasy and super salty both times I've tried it. The other (larger) problem is the service. I've been there twice now, and the service was spacey and sporadic. Someone came right away and bring chips, then we tried to place drink orders but she had to "get our server" who didn't show up for at least 10 minutes, then the food order didn't get taken for another long while, bill took forever, etc. Just seemed disorganized. However, I really like the food, the service is at least friendly, the beer is great (try the Chupacabra!), and the way they redid the interior is awesome. I'll definitely keep trying Tres Davis, since I'm hoping the service issues are just growing pains and will improve as the restaurant gets more established. Okay, so I decided to try again. This time I ordered the beef enchiladas with the verde sauce. Since my last experience was "meh" I wasn't expecting much. To my surprise, it was really tasty. The sauce had a nice kick to it. The beef was moist and flavorful. The beans were also very nicely seasoned and creamy without being runny. The rice was just okay - a little on the dry side. No cover? Not bad.. I came here with a few friends for a poppin' Thursday nights in downtown Davis. It was pretty interesting to see so many bouncers and bartenders, but not so much a lively dance floor. I bet that's because they put on weird mexican music at times and house music for the remainder of the time. Their light shows are pretty distracting and badly placed because they were in my eyes the entire time. However, a good thing about this place is their drink specials. They have an assortment of alcoholic drinks for $5-6 and they pack quite a punch. It's nice to see a place that takes into account that we are college students just wanting to have a good time at a reasonable price. My coworkers and I came here for lunch a few times. I been to the Tres Hermanas in Sacramento and love it, so I introduce this restaurant to my coworkers. We're always trying to include more restaurants to our list to go to for lunch. The food selection is huge, it range from every meat type to vegetarian dishes. The dishes are big, so you can share with a friend. I always end up taking leftovers home. The food is a little bit pricey then other restaurant that serve similar food, but Tres Hermanas quality is so much better and I believer healthy too. They make it fresh and its not a fast food restaurant. Lunch specials usually comes with soup or salad. I love the salad with the cilantro dressing, its delicious. My husband got me dipping the chips with the cilantro dressing and its unbelievable. I like it better than the salsa. The salsa have a little kick to it, but its fresh and its comes with fresh chips. Eat up, they always bring more. I have order the taco, burrito, and chimichanga. And still more to try. Its a nice place to come for lunch and talk because when there is many people in the restaurant, they take a little longer to make the food. Plus, the music isn't too loud, and the restaurant is big enough for everyone to be spread throughout the restaurant. If you're trying to find something for a quick lunch, this is not the place. I really liked the food at Tres Hermanas... ...however, it just took awhile to get it. We went on a Thursday night and the place was pretty busy, but cleared out soon after we arrived. Our order was taken and after two baskets of chips (+yummy salsa!) our food finally arrive. Unfortunately I have a tendency to fill up on the chips and salsa before the food even comes, so I couldn't eat the majority of my burrito/enchilada combo plate that was ~$13. But from what I did eat, it was NOMS! Just be prepared to wait. I don't think I'd go back for awhile, I'd rather go to a real taqueria that's cheaper and quicker! read more

At first I couldn't believe all the mediocre and not-so-great reviews I read about this place, being a big fan of their Midtown location. That is, until I came here and experienced this place for myself. The bar area was packed but the dining room was pretty empty. That should have been a sign. (Then again it was between lunch and dinner hours.) I had been to the Midtown location the previous month and was craving the entree I ordered on that visit, but didn't want to make the drive to Sac. So Davis it was. Believe me when I say, the reviews are spot-on: the food tastes better at their other location. I'm not good at describing tastes but my taste buds know when I like something or not and they were not too crazy about the food here. Also the food was wayyy greasier. (I got a cheese enchilada and crispy chicken taco which I found delicious at their Midtown restaurant.) Even the salsa didn't have as much of a spicy kick to it. It was quite disappointing since I had been expecting the same great taste. Service though was good. Our server was courteous and attentive, so that is a plus. But I really wish the food were as good as their other location! Would be nice to not have to drive to Sac when I'm craving Tres Hermanas! read more

Yay! A sit down Mexican restaurant in Davis! Yes - the other Mexican food establishments in Davis can be sit down, but they do not have the wonderful ambiance in Tres Hermanas and different food platters. I really like how they decorated the restaurant and the service was friendly albeit a bit slow. There is also a full bar available with 2 flat screen TVs. The chips and salsa are great to have while waiting for the food. In terms of quality, I would say it is about the same as other Mexican restaurants I've been to. Better than the other Mexican food establishments in Davis. Price to portion ratio is a bit low (Quality over quantity?) Overall first time experience is a positive one. Usual spot to come for happy hour 3-6 pm on weekdays. They have 1 dollar street tacos which are AMAZING!!! The 5 dollar flautas are really good too! And 4 dollar house margaritas which are delicious! The give free chips and salsa during your time there . The staff is usually really friendly , this past time I went it took more than usual to get our food and drinks , and there wasn't a lot of people which took me by surprise. They are home of the famous loaded coronas , a corona with a shot of tequila in the bottle. It's a popular spot of college crowd on Thursday nights , dancing and DJ. read more

I was tempted to try this place since it's fairly new. It replaced the old Pasta ? Restaurant (which I'm not super surprised went out of biz) My friend and I went here for dinner. She got the tu comination where you make your own combo plate. She chose a cheese enchilada and a crispy chicken taco--kinda exp. I thought for what she ordered ($13.95). I got the tamales vegetarianos ($11.99). Hmm... it was decent...I'm kinda picky when it comes to tamales though. You can request black beans which I did otherwise every plate comes standard with refried beans. As far as drinks go, she ordered a mango margarita and it was terrible. She didn't even finish it--that's pretty bad. I was happy I ordered a nice cold Modelo Especial--can't mess that one up. So I'm not so sure abt the bar situation. Maybe their house margarita is better?? Overall experience was so-so. The food was okay. It fulfilled my craving for Mexican food but it wasn't incredible. Honestly, I feel Davis lacks a reliable, delicious Mex place and I was hoping this was going to help that situation. Also, the service was kinda slow for how crowded it was.
