My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place when we were passing through Davis to kill time. We immediately sat at the bar and ordered food there. The bartender and my boyfriend started to talk about the liquor and their preferred bottles. Come to find out they have a tequila sampler where you get 3 sample shots for the price of the resposado shot. Instantly my boyfriend fell in love because tequila is his drink of choice. After that, the waiter promptly served us water, and by the time we started talking, chips and salsa were already on the table. The chips were DElICIOUS and definitely gourmet... Now for the main course. I ordered the vegetable tostada. In Davis, this is by far the best authentic Mexican dish I've had. There are varied vegetables -- like zucchini and bell peppers, and even mushrooms in the meal. Also, Mexican rice is served on the side, along with fresh refried beans. The food was definitely prepared hot and felt unique and indigenous to the restaurant -- a factor that makes me want to return here for more. I am beyond shocked at the service I received today. Our family of 5 waited for our meals for nearly an hour. Our waitress even apologized for the delay but rushed away. After waiting a few more minutes, we went up to the register and asked that we simply pay for the appetizer we ordered so we could go elsewhere. The owner came out of the kitchen and started yelling at us, telling us to be understanding because they were a restaurant. They even had the audacity to tell us we had only been waiting 15 minutes. It very could have been that the waitress had forgotten to put our order in which may have caused the delay. I only know it had been an hour as I had texted a friend that we were meeting them in an hour once we put our order in. Regardless I am appalled at the owner for having yelled at us in front of his customers when we had been firm but polite up until our interaction with him. As a long time Davis resident I will no longer frequent this establishment and have kept my friends and colleagues informed of their treatment. They have lost our business and others. I am generally understanding of how busy a restaurant is but I am shocked by their treatment. Really great carnitas!!!! Highly recommend getting that since they're juicy yet crispy... So dreamy. Their mole is pretty good, too. It's different from what I'm used to getting in San Jose, which tends to be thicker, a tad sweeter and have a heavier cinnamon/clove profile. I was surprised to learn that Tres Hermanas opened an outlet in Davis and lunched there with a friend. The location is very nice. Right across the street from the train station with ample patio space for outdoor seating. The chips tasted fresh and salsa had just a bit of kick. I had the enchilada lunch special ($8.99) with a choice of meat or cheese and choice of sauces (roja, verde, and mole). I picked shredded beef with mole. The lunch special comes with rice and beans with whole pinto and black beans as alternatives to refried, and soup or salad. I tried the albondigas (meatball) soup. The soup was somewhat bland, though the meatball was tender. The enchilada was amply filled with beef and the mole sauce tasted rich and flavorful. Even though I was tempted to order 2 enchiladas for lunch, I was glad I only ordered one. I was plenty full by the time I finished my lunch. I haven't tried the other Mexican restaurants in town, so I cannot compare. But Tres Hermanas seem to be fairly popular and did a good job with my lunch. read more

Always such great service & great food! The cilantro dressing they make there is seriously amazing & good on all sorts of plates. My 74 y/o aunt is a local & this is her favorite place to eat, so I frequent with her when I visit. Everyone knows her by first name & is greeted with hugs when she walks in. Tried this restaurant because it was conveniently located for me and my husband to have dinner and meet up with a friend. This was our first visit and I have to say the food was mediocre and although the chips were good only the top half were chips while the bottom 2/3 were broken crumbs. This was in both baskets they served. That said, we had to ask multiple times for water, dressing for the salad was asked for "on the side" but it came out on the salad. Needless to say the service was less less than average. I went to eat there over a year ago and was not impressed at all. It was when the restaurant first opened up so maybe they were still figuring things out. I recently went back a few months ago and actually liked my food. Although the food is a bit expensive ~$15 per plate, the servings are definitely big enough for a second meal later on. I've been dying to try their Sunday brunch so I finally did, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered an egg white chorizo scramble, although I did not realize it was going to be a scramble when I ordered it. Overall the dish was very tasty and rich in flavor. It came with a side of refried beans-- which were not extraordinary but still decent, potatoes, and two tortillas. Tres is one of the more higher end Mexican restaurants in the Davis area. I've been here a couple of times and really enjoyed the food! The chips and salsa they bring to your table is great and they're very good about refilling it when you're running low. The food is very well seasoned and the tortillas are yums. Although for the taco salad bowl, I recommend not getting the bowl as it is a little soggy after a while. The servers are sweet although at times I feel they're short handed. We have to flag down our waiter a few times every time we come here. The store has plenty of seating for large parties. There are also outdoor seats if the weather is nice! This used to be one of our favorite places in Davis for a relaxed dinner. We came in at around 6pm this evening, told the hostess that we wanted a table outside, and she told us that the wait would be around 15 min. Around 15 min later, she called our name and led us to a table inside. We mentioned that we asked for outside and she said, "Oh, I wrote down outside for you guys but sometimes people don't care." Then she walked away. No apology. She also did not mention that there were no tables ready outside yet until she saw us still standing there looking confused. Another 15 min pass and we wonder if she forgot about us entirely. Until she came out to call another party of two to sit outside, a party that very clearly arrived after we did. I approached her and mentioned that we had been waiting a long time. Again, she offered no apology. She looked around at the outside tables, said "there's a really big party sitting outside that we're dealing with" then noticed that there were several open tables right near where we were standing. She said that maybe she could seat us at a table that had been vacant the entire time we had been sitting and waiting or maybe another table. She seemed totally unaware of how long we had been waiting or what tables were available. After getting no apology and no clear promise that a table would be forthcoming we left, angry, hungry, and having wasted over a half hour of our time. I totally get that people make mistakes but not apologizing or fixing them crosses a line for me. Because of one employee I will probably never go back to Tres Hermanas, which is too bad, because we only had positive experiences before this and the rest of the staff are wonderful. read more

Last Saturday my wife and I went to one of our favorite restaurants in Davis, Tres Hermanas. We sat at the bar, had a nice dinner, chitchat with the familiar people, and overall had a great time. At the end, we left 19% tip. Few days later I checked the bank transactions and found out that the restaurant took 30% tip. We were shocked and felt betrayed as we did not expect such conduct from Tres Hermanos. There is a term for this kind of behavior that I am not going to use it at this time. The food, drinks, price, atmosphere, and service here are all outstanding. They have a special lavender margarita right now that is TO DIE FOR, hands down one of the best margaritas I've ever had -- there' s a bartender named Hira who makes the bessssst drinks, I like to sit at the bar when she's working because she's so sweet and fun to chat with. I wish I could give this place a zero stars after how they treated my friend. We were eating outside and my friend almost passed out due to the heat so we brought her inside for the air conditioning and to go to the bathroom. We were unable to make it to the bathroom because she couldn't walk so we sat her at an empty table until she could. The owner then came out and said we had to leave because he couldn't have her in there (with us being in there for less than a minute), showing no compassion towards her whatsoever. The servers were nice and got her a water and bag due to her being ill. But I have never been treated so badly by an owner because "he didn't want us in there with paying customers".
