The least expensive meal we ate in Norway ! But it was also delicious! We got the Wild Game and Reindeer sausages. If you had to choose I'd go with the reindeer but that is probably more because I like the lingonberry sauce that they put on top(if you want). Or maybe ask for the wild game with the lingonberry sauce on top! I just like a fruit sauce or a mustard on sausage to cut the greasiness of the sausage. Not that these were overly greasy. Definitely get the fried onion topping, how I want to eat a hotdog/sausage from now on! We were lucky and got there before there was a line. It can be slow to get your food depending on who is working but they are open very late night so if you don't want to wait just keep passing by. On a cruise to Bergen, walking to the funicular I passed this amazing hotdog place. I love me a good hotdog. They have all styles of dog. I had the reindeer dog with the local style of berry, mustard, relish and crispy onions! And wholly smack down Batman!! That was THE BEST, freshest, and tastiest dog I've ever had. The lack of over-sodium and nitrates (to the best of my abilities to detect) were a welcomed and refreshing experience. The hot dog was big, like bigger than a Costco dog. I've had a reindeer hot dog once before in Denver, sometime around 2009, and it was accompanied by horseradish cream and caramelized onions. I loved it. This is a MUST HAVE when you are in Bergen. I never thought that having lingonberries on my venison hot dog would be good until I tried it in Norway. I like how this is not your traditional Bergen food. It was cheap, fast and not to mention delicious! Per the employee's suggestion, I wound up getting the reindeer hot dog. AMAZING! If my friend was more of a hot dog fan, I would've came here more than once during my stay. The reindeer hot dog comes with mustard, lingonberry jam and fried onions. All for a mere $6 and I loved it! Only downside was that it left a bit of an aftertaste in my mouth. They have an extensive menu and for the prices and the portion, you can't beat it. Everything is overpriced! Even a Big Mac combo at Mickey D's Norway will set you back at least $10+ :( We found Trekroneren on Yelp and were drawn by the gourmet selection like reindeer, lamb, wild game sausage, and bratwurst. After you order, the person serving you will add toppings for you at your request (not self-serve). Toppings we tried: ketchup, mustard, spicy mustard **not that spicy**, fresh onions, fried onions, lingonberry jam. The boyfriend and I shared 3 hot dogs (195NOK total, around $24) and we were VERY satisfied, both at the deliciousness of it all and the value of getting to eat out in Norway and not break the bank. My favorite was the reindeer sausage with the traditional toppings of mustard, lingonberry jam, & fried onions. This place is literally a stand, so there are no tables & chairs. Luckily it is situated in a super popular area with benches galore. As an American in Norway, I was endlessly amused by the Norwegian fascination with hot dogs. We had many hot dogs (ostegrill) on our trip, mostly because they were cheap and widely available, but this place had the most gourmet and best-tasting sausages of the bunch. It's a little can't-miss-it stand with a long legacy for serving cheap tasty sausages that are as big as your arm, attracting tourists and locals alike. We liked this place so much that we ended up coming here twice in two days. You pick your sausage (there are a large number to choose from), choose your toppings, and find a place on the street to enjoy your piping hot sausage. Our first time there, we tried the smoked bratwurst and the hot chili sausage, both very tasty but not super memorable. The second time there, a very nice guy who appeared to be the owner cajoled us into trying the reindeer sausage, which seems to be their signature. He also persuaded us to get it with the traditional toppings, which were lingonberry sauce and fried onions. This was the king of all sausages. Not gamey at all, very flavorful, and the combo of sweet lingonberries with crispy onions was perfect. The sausages are generously sized (hehe) and have a nice casing on the outside that gives them an appealing snap. They are very reasonably priced (compared to your typical Bergen meal), and they come with a free cup of their house juice, which tasted like a very sweet Kool-aid (I enjoyed it, my fiance thought it was like drinking syrup). The dogs are foot-longs, are well cooked, and have amazing flavor and crunch when biting into them. Thy are served on the spot so there is no waiting necessary. Condiments include ketchup, yellow mustard, raw onions, and French onions. Dogs go for roughly $65 kr. It's a beautiful night cap, after-bar stop, and just great snack when you have a nice "glow" on. When in Bergen ... Trekroneren has street cred and a cult following for its variety of sausages and quick food. It is a little stand, near everything and down a side street. There is no sitting either inside or out, so you are pretty much on your own. This presents a logistical challenge in holding a large sausage with all the toppings and having no place to sit - be prepared to woof it down. You might get lucky if you look to the right (facing the restaurant) where you will see a tree down the street a ways. Around the tree is a raised platform which provides ample room for several people, even for my relatively large American backside. We had reindeer sausage and cheese sausage.
