Delicious!

3.5 stars. And this is a Swedish restaurant, not so much Norwegian. There were only two dishes on the bar menu that were seafood. Everything else was meat, that's when you know this isn't a Norwegian restaurant. They had the ground floor dining area and the bar down below. We went to the bar area to meet up with some new friends we made in our kayaking trip. The bar area is obviously more casual where they take your order. On the side they also had a pitcher of water and some glasses you can serve yourself. We were there on a Saturday night. It didn't look too busy even though all the tables were filled. When we ordered food, they told us the wait would be 1 hour! We're hungry so we ordered our food. The fish pot good. Steak flank was alright, it did look better in the photo than it tasted, but still OK. Overall pretty decent but if you have one night here only, make sure you do your research thoroughly....

188kr/$25.50 Plank steak...delish! Plus tax n tip already in price! :)

TOP SECRET! Its way off the tourist areas of Bergen...the only tourists in here are the ones that do extensive research before coming to Bergen...like me! Walk in. Smile at the staff working in the fancy schmancy top floor area. But walk straight for the dark doorway and down the steps to the pub in the basement. Grab a menu. Grab a table, When ready, order from one of the friendly bartenders. Keep in mind, tax and tip are already included, so its all reasonable considering its Norway: 63kr/$8.40 Aass beers...good variety and cheapest beer in a bar in Bergen. Aass!!! 138kr/$18.40 fish n chips...delicious! A bit different, but good! 188kr$25 plank steak...delicious! Probably the best deal in Norway if you're craving steak. Bartenderinas were very nice, as well as the expat Irishman bartender. The ambiance isn't much...clean, simple and dark. Food comes from the same kitchen as the fancier restaurant upstairs with full service, but those entrees start at 200+kr. I'll definitely be back if I'm ever in Bergen again. (Note: At time of this review, the US dollar was up 50% against the Norway kroner...$1 = 7.5kr vs $1 = 5kr just a couple years ago)

Reindeer Meat! *** Locals This place is normally used for food and drinks. Hidden away from Bergen's Wharf! *** Travelers If you want reindeer meat, come by! Delicious! *** My Recommendation Excellent service. I shared this dish with my travel companion so they cut the reindeer meat and split it up to two dishes. Definitely come for the food and the service! IG: @foodisseur

Enjoyed dining downstairs in the pub room. The fish of the day was cod and it was deliciously prepared with a dill and butter sauce, and served with perfectly steamed cauliflower & broccoli and boiled potatoes. The blue cheese hamburger was tasty and garnished with freshly cut red onion, tomatoes & lettuce. The bar had a nice selection of beer on tap as well as bottled. Belly up to the bar and place your order, pour yourself a glass of water and your dinner will be brought to your table piping hot. The service was cheery and helpful.

This review is for the pub, in which you need to walk into restaurant and down the stairs. The clientele here seemed to be all locals, which was a good thing in my book. They have a very good selection of craft beer here. The food is also quite good, probably one of the better meals I had while staying in Bergen. The steak I had was cooked nicely and the stew I had was nice and hearty, but nothing special. I was sad that they ran out of their famous meatballs... 4 stars.

This place was a pleasant surprise! After meandering through our hotel's neighborhood in Bergen on a mini-pub crawl, we checked this place out for dinner. We all left feeling like we had made a good choice. The establishment is divided into two floors. The street-level floor is the restaurant which has about 10-12 tables. We were told upon arriving that it would be about a 30 minute wait. We proceeded downstairs, where a basement bar awaited us. It was dark and moody. At the tail end of our first round, one of the waiters came downstairs and informed us that our table was ready. In advance of our meal, some good crusty bread with some soft and salty butter arrived. For dinner, I ordered a bouillabaise (photo included). The broth was quite flavorful, and was full of salmon, shrimp, and other seafood. There were also some pieces of celery which lent a great flavor to the dish. We got some additional bread which was put to good use in soaking up the delicious broth. My friend who ordered the salmon felt it was an excellent dish. All of us left happy, full, and merry.

Mackerel dish

We went to have dinner on Sunday evening. It was a little empty and that got me a bit worried. However, the food was very good and service was excellent. I had Mackerel with mustard spice and my wife had a vegetarian dish. Fish was really spicy and very good. Vegetarian dish was average. We were really impressed with the waiter who explained everything so well.

After our late arrival into Bergen we decided to eat some Norwegian fish dishes at Pingvinen…read more We arrived at the right time and got seated at the back table. Service was fairly quick. Menu contained a number of Norwegian dishes of seafood, meat (including reindeer) and vegetarian. We knew ahead of time we wanted to try the plukkfisk and gratinated fish pie. The pie was the best dish for us that night. It had a nice and creamy texture along with a crunch on the crust due to the frying. It was a light dish compared to the plukkfisk. The plukkfisk was quite heavy with this fish/mashed potato mixture and while the fried bacon added some texture it could've used a little more acid for our tastes.

They have free wifi and the password is at the bottom of one of the blackboard behind the bartender. Opted for the reindeer filet and it was excellent. The reindeer was cooked to a perfect medium and seared to perfection on the outside. The flavors were excellent and this was served with a side of fried potatoes, green beans along with a bed of creamy mushroom. The vibes from the Gen Z staff were lit too. Seems like they were complaining about bf issues... Pricing may be elevated as I'm not sure if this was a tourist trap as I didn't see any locals. 495 NOK for lunch.

However, the restaurant lived up to its hype. The restaurant is romantic and loaded with European ambiance. This is the kind of place where you know you aren't in Kansas anymore. Lamb is something that I love, so I was happy to see it on the menu. It was incredibly good. Not gamy at all, wonderful cooked, flavorful, and tender. It was fantastic. My wife and I split the huge portion of excellent potatoes au gratin that came with my lamb. It was creamy and tasty. Norwegians LOVE potatoes, so some sort of potato dish is a requirement, I think. My wife had a vegetarian hamburger that came with fries and veggies. She said that it lacked flavor, but it looked good. The fries were excellent.

I mean, I did, which is why after a day of traveling to Bergen from Oslo, I desperately needed sustenance and Bryggeloftet & Stuene was on my list and near my hotel. I walked in on a Tuesday night and no, I was denied. The place was packed, but the friendly hostess took my name down for a reservation for the following day. So that's what to do here. Make a reservation if you can't get in because everyone wants to eat here. The following day during my reserved time, it was a much more satisfying experience since I ate here! The restaurant is located just across the pier and along Bryggen, and inside, it's decorated with old paintings and photos of Bergen and Norway with classic, wood furnishings all around. It takes you back to Bergen's former days, which is the charm of this place. Staff could not have been friendlier. Bryggeloftet & Stuene has traditional, Norwegian food. I ordered the wolffish, which was in season, and the fish came with veggies and a side of potatoes to however you want them made. And this is when I learned that the area prepares potatoes dauphinoise, which is like au gratin and was sooo delicious. My dish comprised of fresh wolffish in a lemon, dill sauce, fresh vegetables and of course, with the side of dauphinoise potatoes. But this is the kind of restaurant that no matter what you order, everything will be delicious here. Ya gotta eat at Bryggeloftet & Stuene when in Bergen.

The dressing was similar to a Caesar dressing, which appealed to me less but it was good nonetheless. I got some raspberry juice and that was a lovely treat.
