Pretty good shop. Better since they went Trek. Still a bunch of the same people work there. The mechanics are good. I get my bike serviced there, though the last time I went they took my hand grips off then put them back, expected, but the grips went from bright yellow to having a nice coating of gray dirt/grease. So that wasn't cool. If they went the extra step and actually cleaned the bike before they released it, that'd be great. Also, this last time I had to keep chasing them down to see what the status of my bike was, which was the first time this happened. Hopefully not an omen of decline, because I otherwise really like this shop. read more

Calm down Greg! A friend and I came in to look around. Greg asked if he could help to which we replied "We are just looking." While I respect Greg's mad selling skills and knowledge of all things bikes, for me? Well it took away from my first time in the store. So I didn't enjoy the experience. Now my friend got stuck with Greg as he is too nice. I ditched them both. I walked around the store looking and guess what? I had a good experience here recently, I came in to get a bike trailer for my toddler. They only had a few in stock, and I bought one they had pre assembled, but I did get the impression that given how much business they have during Covid , they aren't really that big on salesmanship as I would have expected. I kinda got half answers on the questions I had about bike trailers, but fortunately I did enough research beforehand to feel comfortable with the options they had and which one fit my needs. The store itself is pretty big, right next to the Ace hardware, but the inventory was only about 50% when I came in, picked over because of people wanting an excuse to be outside, as well as supply reduction from manufacturers. read more

WOW just WOW, we are here from Canada and brought my bike along. Unfortunately after only being 5 months old I was concerned I had bought a lemon when it broke down already leaving the electric power useless. I checked with Canada where it was purchased and they assured me that I could take it to anyTrek dealer. We went to Bike Barn now the Trek dealer and after some diagnosis the thought they knew what the problem was. I left my bike, took a loaner for free so I could continue riding. Once fixed returned the loaner and got my bike. Problems arose again immediately called and they said to bring it back. They looked it over and offered to replace it with a brand new bike so I would not be inconvenienced but then they also offered to upgrade it to the new Bosh drivetrain giving me what I payed for my bike and splitting the difference in the cost between my bike and the upgrade as well as adding the rear carrier so I can attach my basket for free, took that deal for sure, never have I experienced such professionalism. A big shout out to Austin and the manager for going the extra mile and then some. Also thank you to Trek bikes for providing this leeway to their product carrier. Bike Barn in Clear Lake has first class customer service! Went to look for an Electra townie. The Bike Barn on Bay Area was completely sold out. Austin the sales associate was absolutely amazing! He took his time to explain component of the bike and brought one out (already sold to another customer) to let me try out since I've never seen one in person. Even though the store was extremely busy, he was patient and didn't rush me out even though the bike wasn't in stock. This is probably the most popular bike shop in the area. Good selection of merchandise and they run several rides out of this store each week. I used to come here when it was still locally owned and was friendly with the family who ran it. I was in there again recently and was a little disappointed that I had to go find someone to help me with something I was looking to buy from them. Three guys hanging out behind the counter, not really paying attention to what was going on in the store. When I did get help, the guy who waited on me was really trying to earn my business; nice guy. The "family feel" of the store has gone for me, but obviously they are still doing something right to still have an impact on the local cycling community. read more

The following issues happened in late 11/2020, I reported this problem in feedback of your web site and in your survey email. So far, I have not received any responses from you company yet, so I posted it here "I visited at your Bike Barn Clear Lake store on 11/24/20 and 11/25/20 and bought a ~$500 bike (11/25/2020 ~11:30am). I had a very bad experience when dealing with a young tattoo Caucasian guy (short dark hair, tattoo on both arms), who was responsible at the bicycle service counter. On both days, I was completely ignored (not being served) when I came to his service counter (where he works) and looked for help. However, he did server many other people who came in after me - I didn't know to get help, so I had to reach out to other guy who worked at the back of the shop. Immediately after that this tattoo guy asked them to stop working on my bike and served other customers who came in after me. - After ~30 minutes patiently waiting for installation (water bottle holder and the bicycle stand), my bike was still not done yet while many customers came in late have the services done and left. I approached this tattoo guy and politely asked a very quick question while he was serving other customers, who came in after me. He cut me off three times, didn't let me talk, he raised his voice at me several times in the front of ~8 people there. He pointed the finger to my face, repeatedly intimidated me and yelled "Step aside, I will get to you later". I felt being insulted. He had to treat customer with some respect. I told him "How much longer do I have to wait, if it is too long then I will come back later". Then, he turned around, asked the repair man ..., and then told me that it should be done soon. Fifteen minutes later, my bike was fixed" I need your help to stop this tattoo guy from treating many other customers as bad as he treated me. I came to the store to shop, get service, and buy you products. BTW, all the salesman in the store are professional and treat customers well" read more

I've always looked longingly at the Trek & Specialized bikes at Bike Barn, but I've never had the cash to get one. So, I went to Performance when they had a sale and bought a Fuji road bike with nice components fairly cheap. Then I tried to ride it on one of the Space City Cycling Club Saturday rides (which leave from the Barn's parking lot every weekend.) I was in pain by mile 8. Unfortunately, we did 40 that day. So I brought it inside and talked to the staff. See, while Performance sells cheap bikes, the people in the store don't really know or care about what they're selling. The folks at the Bike Barn live to ride and it shows. (And, best of all, they didn't sneer and laugh at me for buying a Fuji somewhere else.) I made an appointment to come in after work on Monday to be properly fitted for my bike. The first thing I learned that Monday night was I bought the wrong bike. It was too small for me. But, since I didn't really want to buy another bike for awhile, we set out to adjust things so it would fit better and I could make the best of it. We swapped out the stem and added a riser to bring the bars up higher, plus redid the brake cables to adjust for the new height. For about $200, I had a bike that fit. To the Barn's credit, they didn't rub in the fact that for the money I spent between the two stores, I could have been properly fit on a nice Specialized or Trek bike at their shop in the first place... but the lesson was learned. When you're shopping for a bike, have a professional fit you to the bike first, then look at the price tag. Their mechanics do great work, they're friendly, they know bikes, and they're patient. Many people just go ahead & buy bikes beacuse they are cheap/on sale without proper knowledge that you need to factor many things when purchasing a bike. You need to know what size to purchase,the Bike barn staff doesn't make you feel bad about purchasing at another store & bringing it in to get properly fitted or setup. This location from experience is the worst service center in Houston I am sad to say I wasted time money an expensive parts getting installed at this location they ripped me off charges me more when I was given a set price an then they damaged my bike an when I brought it back to get my cable fixed they wanted to charge me again for what they messed up the service manager or whatever he claimed to be is a rude an very unprofessional! The store manager needs to address this with him before they loose more customers an trust me my bike group will not be spending any more money there! read more

If I could give no stars, I would. Gabriel has the worst customer service. When arriving to Bike Barn we noticed the long line of people, so we just got in line. We were there to pick up a very expensive bike, and we were greeted at the door by Gabriel. He rushed us inside to pick up the bike along with another couple. He immediately said he was going to get the items that we were there to pick up. Without asking our name, or what we were picking up he ran to the back. When he came back he didn't say anything to us, as if we were invisible, instead he turned to the guy checking out next to us (Mark), and told him to help us when he was done. Several times he told the other worker (Mark) "I don't even know why they are here" & "I don't know what they came here for" The gentlemen helping us (Mark I think was his name) was extremely kind and helpful compared to Gabriel! Thank you Mark for keeping your cool and having great customer service in the heat of the long line, and the phone ringing. read more

We had a really nice experience. Pretty much any question you've got from beginner to expert, they will definitely have an answer. We went in having a very small idea and walked out knowing exactly what we needed and even found a great bike as well. I'm always checking store prices to online and why're spot on with making sure you're not getting jipped which was really nice. We plan on coming back here again for a second bike. For now just got a specialized hybrid and it's exactly what we were needing and wanting. We showed up on a Sunday and there was a constant flow of customers yet we were still able to talk with someone and get assistance. Much appreciated for the service and highly recommend! read more

We are in the market for a new road bike for my husband; he is a marathon runner, but wants to start cycling once or twice a week for cross training during the hotter summer months. We were passed off to a sales person (I don't know his name, neither one of us can remember if he ever introduced himself). After a brief explanation of what we were looking for, he surmised that we wanted an "endurance bike", and began to show us two models. He then asked my husband "what type of gears he was looking for". Not understanding the question, we asked what he meant, at which point he rattled off a few brand names, never once explaining why we might want to take this information into consideration. When it was clear we still did not know what he meant, and didn't care either way, he then asked us how much we were wanting to spend. My husband began to answer while looking in my direction - simply because we didn't really have a set limit, we had a number that we would like to spend but nothing set in stone. The sales person saw this look and made a joke about "how much money was my husband allowed to spend"....I didn't realize Bike Barn was set in the 1950's and "ole ball and chain" jokes were still in fashion, but sure, I only allowed him to spend X amount of dollars. It wouldn't have mattered, because as soon as the sales person heard that amount, he insisted that we would not find a bike at that price. Well, we could find a bike at that price (I know were could, we were surrounded by price tags that stated as much), but it would not be a carbon frame, and therefore, in this salesperson's mind, would be worthless. After looking on our own for a bit, my husband found a Specialized that he liked and was only a bit more than what we said we wanted to spend (and a carbon frame to boot), but when he asked the salesperson about it, he shook his head and said no, because that bike is "cheap". Oh, and some people find it uncomfortable. He wasn't able to really explain why, but it was and that was that. I could never imagine being a sales person and calling anything in my own inventory cheap, but he obviously has a different strategy. That strategy included never asking my husband how far he wanted to ride, how often he wanted to ride, not even what type of bike he might actually want. He never offered to take a bike down from the rack or show us options that closer fit our budget. He had two bikes in the entire store to sell us, and even though they were $1500+ more than what we said we wanted to spend, only those bikes would do. Here's the thing: we are not the most novice bike shoppers. My husband has been a mountain biker for about 20 years, I'm a lightweight but still enjoy the sport as well. We've lived in at least 4 different states, and over seas, so we've been to a lot of bike shops. Four years ago I purchased my own road bike while living in Iowa, and I remember the experience fondly. We had an even tighter budget at the time, but the sales people made sure to only suggest bikes that we could afford. They took at least three bikes down for me to look at closely, set one up for me to ride on, the entire experience was handled with consideration and we were devoted costumers until we moved away. And to be clear, we would absolutely afford to spend what the Bike Barn salesperson was suggesting on a bike, but you know what, we didn't want to. And that's fine. We certainly don't deserve to be treated with any less respect because of that. And we could have easily purchased the Specialized, but why would we when it was very clear that Bike Barn did not want to sell it to us. We will go somewhere else and find a bike (and two new pairs of clip shoes, and two new helmets, since we were in the market for those as well), but there needs to be some serious attitude adjustments at this location. I have no doubt that business is not going to decline any time soon; this branch is well established and is a massive part of the Clear Lake cycling community. My concern is that too many potential customers have come into that store, possibly buying a bike for the first time. Maybe they need to get in shape and even though they are on a tight budget and only have a few hundred to spend, they want to buy a brand new bike and they want someone to help them get the perfect one so they can cycle on the weekends. And they will walk into the Bay Area Bike Barn, face the same snobbish attitude we faced, have someone tell them that their money is no good there, and they will turn around and walk out and never walk into another bike store again. And that would shameful. read more

They carry mostly Trek/Bontrager and Specialzed products but they do have everything you would ever need or want for anything 2 wheels and pedals requires. Worst experience ever! Just wanted to pick up a t-shirt and shorts. I was ignored by one employee while the other was with a customer. That employee spent 22 minutes talking about energy bars while I waited to check out. I actually pulled out my cell and timed it. If there was a chair available I would have sat down. I just couldn't believe you could go on that long about energy drinks and protein bars. I doubt the women spent more than $20 where I was willing to spend at least $100. With his knowledge of energy bars he should work at GNC. He would be their best employee worldwide. He's missing his calling. I suspect he was fired from GNC for out classing their top salesmen nationwide. I will never eat a protein bar again because of this experience. Needless to say I walked out cursing Cliff and Luna bars. read more

The shop has primarily two brands of bikes: specialized and trek. They're not the highest quality bikes out there but they can look good. Some employees were helpful and kind but others were obnoxious and sarcastic. I went to the bike shop to pick up a bike repair stand that had to be delivered from one of their storage facilities. I explained to the front desk employees why I came and they just looked at me like I was crazy and did not respond to me. One of the employees with glasses on said "oh, sorry. I was letting you go on about your story because it was entertaining". I almost lost it! Maybe if one of y'all would get off your ass and help, maybe my 'story' would make more sense. There's better bike shops (with better employees) out there I promise! Don't waste your money! read more

After the review below, the store went out of their way to make things right. A manager came to my home, picked the bike up, had it repaired and returned it to my home 24 hours later. I certainly appreciate Gabe's efforts in solving the problem with bike. I noted a problem with my bike on a Tuesday and took it to the Bike Barn Clear Lake. It had been my bike shop of choice for a VERY long time. I explained to the technician what the problem was and what I had seen while pedaling. He dismissed my information and decided it was the chain rubbing the derailleur even though I had said I looked at that and did not observe the chain rubbing. The technician pushed a major tune up since I had a tune up last 6 months before. The technician made an adjustment on the derailleur and charged me $17. I did make an appointment for a tune up with a Thursday drop off for Friday tune up and Saturday pick up. I went home and did a test ride and found the problem was not alleviated by the $17 adjustment. I sent an email to the store and the Bike Barn corporate office explaining what had happened. I received a call the next day asking for another chance to repair the bike. I returned the bike on Thursday evening, remember I had an appointment for a Friday tune up, when the shop manager and store manager promised to make things right, including refunding the charge for the adjustment. The shop manager said he would look at the bike Friday and call with an update. I did not get a call, but called them at 5:30 Friday evening to get an update. The shop manager said there was an issue and he would work the bike Saturday/Monday at the latest. Remember, I had an appointment for a Friday tune up with Saturday pick up. Planned on picking up Monday after work. I did not hear from them, so went to the shop Monday evening to get my bike. After about 15 minutes of confusion, I was informed NO ONE had done anything to the bike. I took my bike home. You might not have the same experience leaving your bike with this shop and I wish you luck that they value your time much more than they valued mine. read more
