I needed a tree taken down and another trimmed. Out of 4 companies we called, they were the ONLY one that responded. I even called the others twice and they didn't even call back - and they're well known tree companies. Treemasters came out to look at the trees, a written bid is in my mailbox within the week. I got a follow up call 2-3 weeks later (didn't get back to them yet cause I'd been trying to get a hold of the other bozos). The trimmed tree looks terrific, 1000x better than I envisioned. Swept and cleaned up like they were never here. Crew was wonderful and accommodating (even well dressed). Job done as promised, high quality work, on time, no hassles, very efficient, knowledgeable. We had to have 2 tall dead birch trees, 1 huge Pine tree, and some other tall Junipers that we needed removed. We shopped for various quotes, Treemasters was on the high end. We didn't want to take any risk because of the size of the trees. Treemasters was also the only one who presented their insurance on the first visit. Tim came to take a look the first time, he was nice and informative, knowledgeable of the law, telling me about required permits for some of the trees. I didn't meet Tanya in person, but she was the person I've corresponded with the most, via email or phone. Very professional and quick to respond. On the day of tree removal, I came home during lunch to take a look, and met the crew during their lunch time. They were all very polite and the main guy interrupted his lunch to come meet me and go over what they had been doing and what was left. They left the place very neat and clean. So glad we called Treemasters. Recently bought a house and the previous owner let us know he never called an arborist so we decided it was time for a few reasons, and wow am I glad we did. Anyway, found these guys on Yelp, along with a few others and Treemasters got back to us quickly. I didn't get any other quote, but asked a friend who's done similar work and she said their quote was definitely reasonable. Also, Mike, the arborist who came out was really nice and thorough. We have a crazy backyard because we have a seasonal creek that cuts through, a treehouse, back into unincorporated city land in San Rafael. We have some massive oak trees, one of which didn't look super healthy, and just massive overgrowth which is a huge fire hazard. I had been trimming back a bunch over a couple months, but it was time to hand over to the experts. Here's what these guys found, giant Oak tree that hangs over our house and where our kids play has Sudden Oak Death. AWESOME! Good news, they said they can treat it, were upfront that it's a bandaid solution for now, eventually the tree will have to come down but could be a few years or 10 years depending on tree responds. The Giant Sequoia that wasn't very giant, but shedding like crazy had to come down, sad but it's the wrong climate, way too hot and Mike was surprised it got as big as it did. They trimmed all our redwood pines, trimmed our apple tree and gave us some advice on how to bring itback to life, and trimmed some other trees and all the brush. On top of that, they cleared out all this old firewood and plant debris and did it in a few hours, it was nuts! Communication is really good, this all cost much less than I expected. I will say if/when our sick Oak does have to come down, that will be pricey but this tree is massive, let's hope the treatment works. Thanks Treemasters! read more

Good afternoon! I wanted to send a quick note and tell you about the most wonderful employee you have in Patrick. Not only was he friendly and courteous but he went out of his way to help me. A window installer had left a large piece of tape on the outside of an upstairs window very close to where the tree was coming down. I have meaning to write this for a year. I have a literally 4 story high Palm tree in my Condo back patio. People came out to do bids to trim off the fronds and they would never call me back. Tree Masters however was amazing start to finish from the people who answered the phone to the people who actually trimmed the tree. It was a complex job and no one wanted to do it......It was not possible to climb the tree or even use the ordinary truck with a lift......they tried that as more economical but had to come back with the large crane and access from the parking lot nearby....they were just very excellent and wonderful to work with and I cannot recommend them highly enough. My neighbors are happy to not have palm fronds falling on them from such a height so thank you Treemasters. read more

Treemasters removed a dead Monterey Pine tree from our property yesterday. The tree was approximately 50 feet tall. My wife and I watched the entire process. They brought about five vehicles to the job, including one with a crane, another with a wood chipper, and a flatbed for hauling away the large trunk sections. Because the tree was near a fairly busy street, they had to carefully remove it in sections, which were lifted off with the crane and lowered to the ground, where workers fed them into the wood chipper. The worker who went up into the tree to attach ropes and remove branches with a chain saw was amazingly agile and skilled. Treemasters did a superb job, and when they were finished they thoroughly cleaned up the site. We were extremely pleased with their work. read more

This is my first negative review on Yelp, but I feel I had to post this. Treemasters have trimmed my palms for the past 3 or 4 years and typically they have done a fair job. This year I pulled into my driveway to find a big mess of palm debris AFTER they had just done the job and clean up. Very frustrating to pay a large amount and come home to a mess. I quickly took pictures and called them and scheduled a meeting. After back and forth it took week and a half to meet with me.. no sense of urgency to help with my frustration. In the meantime the invoice was there right away. After finally getting a meeting with one of their reps to express my frustration at my home, he never listened. He tried to blame squirrels for the mess (yes true) and how it looked like a "perfect job" to him. He simply wanted to argue that the job was great. I asked him if when he pulled in the driveway if he would be happy with a big mess. He said no but said it most likely wasn't their fault... no responsibility. Treemasters, please get your reps to LISTEN not argue with customers about how you are right. He tried to argue what a difficult job it was... boom truck from the street out front, ridiculously easy... and expensive the boom truck is.. my problem? I asked him what solutions he had. He offered $40 off. I told him to take off. Clearly money is more important than client experience to this company. Hopefully others have a better experience. Bigger company with no heart. read more

While they were quick to pick up a call, they were very slow in responding. I first called on a Saturday and was told that someone would get back to me - shortly. I called back Tuesday and they said, sorry. I asked for an arborist to provide insight as to what was wrong with my trees and instead, I got a quote - with no explanation to what was happening with my trees. Two more calls and finally I got a voicemail with an explanation. Couple that with the fact that their quote was more than double the two other quotes I solicited and I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

I had them remove a dying, beetle-infected, very large pine tree in my front yard. The price was not the lowest I was quoted, but I have no complaints about their price or their work. They arrived on time, did the job without me being home, and cleaned up everything before I got home. They had to return the next day to grind the huge stump and the above-ground roots. Again, the job was quite satisfactory and the cleanup was better than I expected. The area was left in great shape to plant a new tree or any other vegetation. Treemasters do a great job. My elm tree needed a great amount of pruning . Sammy did a phenomenal job. He was extremely nice about me pretty much saying cut this branch and oh can you cut this one over here as well. By the time he finished over 50 percent of the tree was trimmed and it looks beautiful. I have a lot of plants under the tree which never seemed to get the appropriate amount of needed light. Now there is plenty filtered light which will make my plants thrive. Also there will be a tremendously less leaves to clean up when it sheds between August and January. The first arborist came out over a month ago and saw a tree that was in need of help. He took pictures and promised to show the photos at their morning meeting and would report back. Again, his visit was over a month ago. Still haven't gotten a call back. We got a 5/30 pruning date but it didn't work for my schedule. Their next date was way into June. The tree is gorgeous but clearly something is wrong. Just called again for help and got someone who replied" We're the best! See you in June." Are they really that precious?? During recent heavy winter rains, a very large, very old, Coast Live Oak fell over in our yard. We called Treemasters and they were able to send an Arborist to inspect the tree within twenty-four hours. After consultation, we decided to try to save the tree by pruning it and encouraging it to grow from its new position. Only time will tell if this old beauty will survive over the long term. Today Treemasters removed a 75' Italian Poplar that was growing into my garage. It was on my behind-the-house neighbor's property, and she hired them to do the work. There must have been 7 workers; I watched it off and on all day and it was like watching a precision orchestra. The soundtrack was chain saws and voices of confidence. They took great care and did the entire job using men in the tree and pulleys. A bit of tree debris got on my yard and garage roof and they cleaned it up perfectly. In addition, they did not damage my neighbor's beautiful garden that went up practically to the tree. I would highly recommend them! read more

We had a sick pear tree.... We called TREEMASTERS to see if they could come by and take a look . We made an appointment and the tech arrived - on time and was very professional. He determined we needed to cut back the dead growth and trim the fruit tree next to the pear. We had a written estimate right away which was very complete ...including proof of insurance and photos of the trees and the extent of the intended work. Buy some popcorn and beer for the day they come to watch and invite everyone you know under the age of nine! These guys are great! Things began with a professional estimate process, (he was definitely an expert on tree growing patterns, laws related to certain species etc) and the guy offered us a great deal because he would already be setting up for our neighbor and needed our yard to do so. They handled all the permitting skillfully, and sent us helpful reminders they were coming. But then the spectacle began. They day they came they descended on our house with a huge team of trained and uniformed guys in an organized team. All very professional, organized, and incredible acrobats/skilled rope users (or whatever). It was actually amazing to watch and I regretted not inviting my little nephew over because his mind would have been blown. Instead we just stood there with our coffees and our mouths open. They were belaying off of huge redwoods 30 feet up in the air. Super fast, had a MEGA wood chipper, and then - GET THIS - they cleaned up the yard and even leaf-blowed all the walkways cleaner than they've ever been in their lives. I was SOO excited. Oh yes, and they did a good job removing the tree without damaging any adjacent foliage. It was really an amazing technical show. :) It was a large tree and they were done by early afternoon. Stellar performance and for a great price. THEN they sent me a follow up thank you on my birthday with a Starbucks gift certificate. What?!? Best customer service EVER. Our live oak got a serious trimming yesterday. They literally took out about half his stuff. I should have taken a before photo. He was so full he created total shade, now he creates a nice amount of partial shade. It was good for the tree to have all the extra weight off of and we had his upper two main branches cabled to take the load off of him. Also, he got a bark treatment to prevent sudden oak death. I hired Treemasters recently to remove a huge, dying Giant Sequoia from our property. Every part of this process, from recommendations and bid through tree removal, stump grinding and cleanup, went extremely smoothly. They also handled the permit process with the town and contact with utility companies to coordinate checking for underground lines. Also, the price was reasonable for the amount of work involved. I have used Treemasters several times over the past 6 years and each time has been a similar experience to this one, although this was by far the most challenging project I have given them. We met with and received estimates from three different reputable companies. Mike from Treemasters was simultaneously the most knowledgeable - giving clear and specific reasons for where he wanted to work on the trees and why - but also the most friendly and courteous. Whereas the other two seemed to give price quotes that were akin to vague guesstimates, Mike produced a clearly itemized and specific estimate on the spot. It was also the most reasonably priced of the three. When the work was done (on time) and I realized there had been a miscommunication about a part of two trees to be curly, Treemasters came back and completed the work at no extra cost and in a timely, courteous and professional manner. We've used Treemasters several times over the past 5-6 years and have received excellent service both times. Randy assessed our problem trees and determined action plans for each one, including a massive 100+ year old heritage tree, a huge eucalyptus, an old diseased maple, and King and Queen palms. His crew arrived on time, were professional and friendly, cleaned up the debris and hand carried it down a very steep slope and many stairs to the street, and left the garden cleaner than it was before the tree work. I called on a Friday night after hours in a panic after we found a large crack on our Stone Pine in our front yard. Its been there many years and we couldn't imagine how our house would look should we lose the tree. I received a return call within 30 minutes. Someone came early Saturday morning to evaluate and a couple hours later a crew was out to install several bolts in the limb. The tree is mending very nicely and is looking good. They were recommended to me by a savvy local and bargain hunting custom residential developer (These guys count every penny). I highly recommend Treemasters. I had a small ornamental tree that was turning yellow and dying. I called the tree service I used to use to come look at it. Not only could they not identify the tree (Sloats couldn't either, by the way), they wanted to charge me $90 for the visit! David Hill, master arborist from Treemasters, was able to tell me the small tree was an euonymus, and he also told me our Dutch Elm (identified for me by the previous tree service) was actually an English Elm! He spent twice as much time with me, and didn't charge for the service (I did hire them to fertilize the tree). We then had a 150-foot eucalyptus that needed to be removed from our backyard. It was threatening to drop branches on an apartment building nearby. We started the job, but decided we needed a crane to finish the job. Treemaster's bid was almost half the bid of our former tree service, and they did an incredible job. They coordinated with the apartment manager, and checked in with us every step of the way. As someone else wrote, it was like watching a precision orchestra. They knew exactly what they were doing, and cleaned up thoroughly. Their office staff and work crew could not have been more courteous. They have won us over as new customers! read more

We used TreeMasters in 2002 and 2003. We like Tad, the manager/owner, and the crew did an OK job. They also do a lot of the jobs for government tree removal so are very good for heavy or emergency work. However, it was hard to get them when we needed them, I thought their minimum was high (maybe it was appropriate, I don't know), they were, at the time, a little expensive, and the work sometimes was not exactly what I had asked for. Some of the work was very good and some of it was disappointing. The crew is professional and works fast, perhaps a little too fast. If I could not get Bartlett, I would hire them if I could not wait. read more
