Onion pettles, fried mushrooms, jammers
Karl S.

Coming back visiting Vidalia, with a great surprise to find the original tree house opening back up after Hurricane Halene. We were met with the same southern hospitality that kept bringing me back to the Treehouse with every home visit. Our favorite item, the fried mushrooms were as delicious as we remembered. The Jimmy Burger was juicy and the right amount of rare. Looking forward to making to traditional stop again on my future Vidalia visits!

Good fried food at good prices. Nothing sexy but a great place to hangout with friends or family.

Love the food and atmosphere. Certain nights live music adds to the experience. Also enjoy the pool table.

I keep returning to this restaurant because I want it to succeed. It has great ambiance, with about…read more30 large TV screens, it can handle a large crowd, and the service is fine. The food? That's a different review. The food presentation is good, the serving size more than ample, but the biggest missing ingredient for many items on the menu is flavor. I've now tried 15 different items on the menu, and eight of them completely were blah and failed my taste test. A Reuben I had, for example, was unrecognizable. It neither looked nor tasted like the popular sandwich. The Philly Cheesesteak had only meat on an undercooked bun. There was only a trace of onions and bell peppers. Forget the bowls, they have no taste whatsoever. On the other hand, the shrimp basket, steakhouse burger, and Chili Lime Grilled Chicken Sandwich all were very good. The Chips and Dip was outstanding! That's what is so frustrating about the Pickle Barrel. The gap between the good food and the bad food is a canyon! But I like the restaurant overall enough to keep going back and compiling a list of foods they excel at where I can continue to enjoy those and stay away from the duds.

Given the name, I was hoping for a menu packed with pickle-inspired items, but surprisingly, there weren't many. The fried pickles ended up being pretty bland. We also tried the wings, they weren't very warm when they arrived, but the Islander sauce has potential. It just needed a little more punch. On the upside, the blue cheese dressing was solid, nice and chunky, which I personally love. Mac n cheese bites were probably the best thing we tried. The prices were very reasonable, which was a plus. The best part of our visit, by far, was the service. Our server, Gina, was fantastic. She was super friendly, checked in often, answered all our questions, and just had a really fun and upbeat personality that made the whole experience more enjoyable. She is the reason I rated 4 stars. Not sure I'd rush back for the food, but if I did, it'd be because of Gina.

I see all the negative reviews. And I can only speak of my experience. But I had a decent meal in…read morethis admitted, "hole in the wall." This is definitely a "country" place. Nothing fancy. Has a diner like feel with green vinyl booths and pub lighting. There is a separate sports bar type concept across the hall from the regular restaurant. Very much a basic grill and sandwich type of place. They have cheeseburgers, various types of breaded/fried chicken, steaks. Ham and turkey sandwiches and hoagies. They have lunch plates serving up things like honey sriracha salmon, chicken tenders, fried shrimp, etc. Apps include cheese sticks, jalapeño poppers, ahi tuna. They have a setup where you can do their salad bar, soup and salad, soup and half a sandwich, and various types of prepared salads. They have daily specials as well, which is what I ordered from. I had the bacon pimento cheeseburger medium, and it was cooked appropriately and well-seasoned. The pimento wasn't quite melted, but was still pretty good. Bacon was perfect. Large portion and I only ate half and took the other half home. The fries were fantastic! My meal cost without tip was 21 dollars, and I consider that a great deal. Other specials included fried pickle chips, lemon herb cod, blackened chicken Alfredo, sweet potato casserole, California chicken salad. Service was on the southern side of slower, but attentive. My server even got me a Diet Coke in a to go cup as a courtesy, without being asked. Most of my time over the last five years has been spent in New York and other metro cities. Don't walk into this place expecting a Michelin star restaurant. It's a homey rural feel with down to earth people and decent food. Take it for what it is and enjoy the kitschy southern atmosphere.

Food quality was poor, napkins stunk like rancid grease! I…read moremet people here for lunch and needless to say, I was embarrassed with the quality of food! Sad!

Food didn't look real fresh but decided to still try it out. All food was not fresh or hot at all. Did not finish it or get anymore since nothing was hot/fresh. Got a little sample of the banana pudding as it didn't look great and it was warmer than room temp. Was asked if we wanted more before they were about to break it all down and of course I didn't it was all cold and the desert was warm. Went to the counter to pay and they wanted to charge $60 for a so called seafood buffet. Not much of a seafood buffet and it was cold, hard, and nasty. This place really needs some help. Do not recommend and won't be back.

My family from Lyons co-signed and said the Fried Chicken is legit. So yes on seafood night I ordered a plate of 1/4 of fried chicken white meat (Breast and full wing) and crinkle fries. The chicken was nice and crispy. It had great flavor and the breading wasn't salty. The chicken was moist and had consistent flavor throughout. My 2 pc was so good I had eaten 2 more full wings. I prob could've eaten another 3-4 pcs of chicken. This review was solely based on my experience of the fried chicken which is the only thing I had. This place is known for their chicken and I to can now co-sign on this amazing chicken.
