We stopped in for a late 8:30 Saturday night dinner. We were welcomed politely and asked to be seated. The restaurant was very clean and homey. Seemed to be this town's place for family and friends to gather for dinner. What a lovely atmosphere. We had a young waiter eager to serve us. He shared the specials and tempted us with the sirloin and shrimp special. We each chose an appetizer.... To give them a shot. The catfish fingers were soo yummy, the fried mushrooms missed the mark just slightly.... The smaller ones were cooked through, the larger ones were not. ( totally understandable some were much larger than the others) The steaks were cooked to perfection! Just the way we asked! The shrimp were mouth watering! My baked loaded baked potato was so good. My dinner companion's sweet potato fries hit the spot! Did I mention the amazing side salad and veggies too. IT was more than we would eat. So we honestly had to get a take home box. Cause our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. He asked if we wanted dessert but honestly we were so full. But there will be a next time. We will be back and we will tell our friends and family to stop in. read more

Took the family there for dinner on the advice of our hotel. They said they were the only decent Restaurant in town... so we were not expecting much. But.... we were wrong. It was actually very good. The bread and butter served with dinner was high quality. The salads that came with our entrees were devoured. Wife had ribs, boy had chicken tenders and i had the Catfish. Everyone ate thier fill and was very happy with thier choices. We will probably not be in the area again anytime soon.... but if we are we will definitely be back. read more

A popular place judging by the lunch crowd. They offer a daily meat and 3 lunch special as well as menu items. My wife had a great catfish dinner that was huge. I had the daily special which was pot roast on the day we stopped. My wife's meal came with the side salad which was very creative, huge and very tasty. My meal was great southern cooking with cornbread that was more like hoecake lace. Very thin and crisp. We will definitely stop here again when we are passing this way. read more

We are staying at the Little Ocmulgee State Park and Resort. Southern Star was on our hotel map- tonight is the only night of our stay that they will be open. It did not disappoint!! We were told about Southern Star by the check in clerk at Little Ocmulgee State Park. We were seated promptly. The decor is interesting with stars hanging from the ceilings and such. The food was served quickly and it was very tasty. We ordered teriyaki chicken served with a DELICIOUS salad and vegetable of the day, which was sautéed spinach. My husband ordered the fried hand breaded shrimp and was served 12 large delicious shrimp. He also ordered salad and spinach. His plate came with Cole slaw in the side which was very interesting. I asked what was in the slaw and the waitress told us black pepper and pickled relish. The bread and garlic butter was good. There are not very many choices of where to eat in this Parton the state. We made a good choice. The only problem was that the men's restroom was filthy . The urinal would not flush and the walls were very dirty. The entire bathroom was dirty. Daily blue plate special comes with 3 veg's, corn bread, desert, and tea. Corn bread very thin over cooked and salty. Tea was good, hand bartered chicken fingers were OK, fries over cooked and macaroni cheese was not good! Ranch sauce good for dipping. Yellow cake very dense (think corn bread thick) and maybe over cooked icing not too sweet but lacking in flavor. Banana pudding more of a thick custard than pudding, served luke warm with very ripe bananas and meringue on top was clearly over beaten so I didn't like this desert at all! read more

My wife & I shared ribs and catfish. The fish was lightly breaded w/o any fishy taste. Unfortunately, the ribs were cooked in an oven and slathered with barbecue sauce. The sauce overwhelmed any taste of the ribs. Our waitress was distracted by other college students, actually sitting down with some of them for a while.
