Charming spot in downtown Carmel with a lovely patio where we enjoyed dinner with our dog. The tables were a little close together, which at first made me feel a bit anxious, but after we settled in, I was totally fine. They thoughtfully offer a doggy menu, which was absolutely so cute, and as dog owners, we love to see that! They started us off with a plate of bread and olive oil. I seriously love when restaurants give free bread, that's an automatic good review from me! I ordered the gyro platter, and my fiancé chose the lamb shank. We started with a bowl of clam chowder and paired our meal with a glass of Coastal Vines Cabernet; both were exceptional. By the way, it was a HUGE glass of wine. The manager personally checked in on us, which I always appreciate! It shows he cares about his restaurant and really added to the attentive and welcoming atmosphere. My gyro plate featured meat that was seriously THICC, very filling and tasty. The accompanying salad was well dressed, though a bit oily, yet still balanced nicely. The rice complemented the meal perfectly. The fiancé loved the lamb shank. It was ginormous and very tender! For dessert, we indulged in the chocolate cake, which was rich and decadent, a perfect way to end the meal. We started off pretty strong, being able to choose where we got to sit,(either patio or inside), was a big plus. Except when we got sat, it was the only table that had direct sunlight with 0 shade whatsoever. This isn't the issue, it was the hostess who sat us. She visibly got upset at the fact that we didn't want to be the only table to be hit with sunlight while eating food. After asking to be reseated, we were told to pick a table from anywhere inside. Picked the table which was a good spot, but we noticed there was little to no customer service. Barely even from the waiter. The only people to have solid manners were a food runner and busser. The Food: If you want to go to place that utterly disappoints your tastebuds after driving a long time to go eat at the beach, this is absolutely the right spot. This place made the worst chicken Kabob I've ever had in my entire life. It was Unseasoned, tastes directly defrosted and tap water, the kebab wasn't even cut into kebab slices, they just stick two bad tenders on a stick and call it a day. The rice was even worse! There is absolutely no flavor in the food. I genuinely almost threw up after eating the food. The best part, Only One Restroom! I would've have even been able to throw up properly either! The only decent item from the menu was the Shrimp Tempura. All the food here we ate we would've made better at home and was absolutely not worth driving out here for this. This is such a cute little restaurant. We enjoyed our lunch on the patio. We ordered calamari which is not the typical deep fried round squids but this is more of a breaded squid steak. My friend had a lentil soup that she enjoyed. We also ordered a baba ghanouj which had a slight bitter after taste for me. I was not a fan of this dish and would not reorder this again. I have made it a point to come here every year for my birthday since I am new to the area. GREAT location and atmosphere where you feel like you are dining on top of a tree (hence the name "Treehouse"). The outdoor deck is warm and well lit which gives a friendly and romantic vibe right from the start! And the staff were all smiles when they led us to the table and took our orders. We were treated like family even though we just showed up and did not have a reservation. And let us talk about how DELICIOUS the food is! Great wine selection and appetizers/main course dishes that not only have a flavourful taste but would also look just as lovely hanging in the Louvre! We come to this area annually for the Monterey Jazz Festival and always stop in this place. We always sit outside where the ambiance is great and highly recommended. There is only one bathroom so there is always a wait for that. The service is always great. But, the food is the main attraction (pics attached). We got a cup of clam chowder for $7 and is probably the best I've ever tasted. We also got the Greek salad ($15) with salmon ($14) which is always amazing. Tree house cafe was a great find for a dinner spot to celebrate my brother's birthday! We came in on a Sunday around 7pm without a reservation and they were able to seat us after 10 minutes. To ensure you get a table, I would recommend getting a reservation to be safe since the place did fill up pretty fast. They have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating here and a small bar inside as well. They start you with some bread (which was very good) and for our table we ordered the Chicken Kebab plate, yellow chicken curry, and Chicken Alfredo. The food was all around delicious. I enjoyed a glass of Pinot Noir with my dinner and we loved how cozy the restaurant felt. Our server was attentive and often came back to check on us and refill our waters. This restaurant is a small gem. It is perfect for eating outside on the patio in good weather or at night under the heat lamps. We tried the yellow Thai curry and it was *fantastic*! It was one of the best yellow curries I've ever had. We also tried the lamb stroganoff. It was excellent. We were blown away. The restaurant is so unassuming but the food delivered so much flavor. I give this a 4 because it had oddly bitter aftertaste, something I hadn't tasted before and wondered if maybe the olive oil drizzled on top was contributing to the bitterness. Still pretty good and I cleaned that up! - mushroom truffle ravioli (3/5) : I didn't quite taste the truffle which I was hoping there would be more of. Also, I only got 5 ravioli pieces which felt like a small quantity considering the price. It was also too cheesy for me, but this might just be a personal taste and I won't judge the dish for that - ribeye special: (5/5) my husband ordered this, it was on the special menu for the day. My gf and I came here on a cold and rainy day. This was our first time at Carmel, and we are walking around looking for a good place to eat. We climbed up these little stairs and found this place. When we got in, we were greeted by the workers and were seated very quickly. I ordered the seafood pasta, my GF ordered a vegetable pasta and we shared the roasted garlic appetizer. Everything was pretty tasty. My GF really loved the roasted garlic; we could've had just a full plate of garlic and we would've been fine. She did say that her pasta was a little oily but her plate was still clean at the end of the day. I thought my pasta was delicious. Nothing was overcooked, and there was no skimping out on the seafood. The place is a lot bigger than we thought. There is a very small outside area and a dining area to the right of the restaurant when you first walk in. We were seated on their left side of the restaurant. We were seated right away on a Saturday afternoon but it was already pretty busy. We got waters right away. Unfortunately, we weren't served complimentary bread even though we asked for some and the table behind us got some :/ Apps- we ordered the grilled calamari and babaganoush with pita bread. The calamari was steak style and came with tartar sauce, it was quite delicious and wasn't chewy. The eggplant and pita was good but not great. The pita was kind of rough. We also ordered the mushroom ravioli and the chicken pesto pasta. Both were really good and the mushroom ravioli had wild mushrooms that were delicious. Great place in the middle of Carmel. We sat on the deck and managed to eat between storms. The restaurant is doggo friendly and we had a nice lunch with our pup. Our experience here could have been way better! We started off strong being seated at their cute rooftop patio deck. However, it was very cozy with the tables placed quite close to each other that that it was a bit uncomfortable. Each table's conversation is very audible and if you have children or dogs, it's difficult to manage. The staff coming by to take your order or deliver your food have to weasel themselves between tables to reach you. We ordered the Clam Chowder, which was light and creamy and quite good. The oyster crackers that came with were a bit stale, but the dish itself was a nice starter. I ordered the Yellow Thai Curry which was a hefty $32. You'd expect this to be good given the price and the size of the dish, but it was utterly disappointing. The curry was salty and sour (too much lime) and it was difficult to eat. We witnessed a neighboring table send the same dish back as we were leaving. To be honest, I wish I did that! We also ordered a Chicken Pesto Pasta for $26 which was just okay. No complaints but it tasted like what we make at home, and if that was the case... I would just make it at home? As we are waiting for our food, there were more parties that arrived and got seated. By the time we left, it was a maze to exit because it was compacted with people. It felt really claustrophobic when the tables are full. Overall, it was a poor experience and was not worth the cost at all. read more

Treehouse Cafe has been one of my favorite restaurants in Carmel--always reliable, consistently delicious, and welcoming. That's why I chose it to celebrate my birthday with a couple of friends and our pups. Sadly, what should have been a perfect evening was tainted by a very entitled couple who made the entire experience far from enjoyable. When I made the reservation, I knew the restaurant allowed dogs on the balcony, so I specifically requested a spot there. While they didn't have availability at my requested time, a gentleman (who I believe was one of the managers) assured me he would do his best to accommodate us later. No problem--I appreciated the effort. When we arrived, we were informed there was no space available on the balcony, but the staff was able to seat us inside, which I was more than happy with. The service was warm and welcoming, and we were ready to enjoy our meal. Everything was going great--until about ¾ through the meal, when my friend's pup let out a few cries from inside their enclosed stroller. Now, here's where things took a turn for the worse. A couple--whom I could only categorize as a "Karen and a Ken"--was seated nearby. I could tell right away they were going to be trouble. Ken immediately started treating the waitstaff terribly, demanding things like "Uh, can we have some bread, can we get service here?!" in a rude, condescending tone. My friends and I overheard his entitled behavior and were already put off by his attitude. Then, once he heard the cries from the pup, both Ken and Karen turned their attention to us. They immediately made a scene, complained to the waitstaff, and even called the manager over. It felt completely unnecessary--after all, the pup was inside an enclosed stroller, and the cries were not disruptive to the point that they should've warranted such a reaction. I lived in New York long enough to know how to handle situations like this, but I bit my tongue because I was there to enjoy my favorite dish--Grilled Seabass over mashed potatoes and spinach--and spend time with my friends, not to get into a confrontation with a couple of entitled strangers. It's unfortunate that some people feel the need to make others feel small just to boost their own egos. It was an unfortunate end to what could have been a wonderful birthday dinner. I love the Treehouse Cafe and will continue to return, but it's a reminder that a few bad apples can sour the experience for everyone read more

This cozy spot is a block and a half off the main drag. It has most pleasant outdoor seating shaded by trees, hence the name, although there are tables inside as well. The service was friendly and attentive, but not overly so. The food we had was delicious: burrata appetizer, burger, halibut and cioppino made us all happy. Cute restaurant on San Carlos, not far from the heart of Carmel. They have indoor as well as outdoor (patio) dining areas. Their lunch menu was very complete and all three of us got different things that we loved...the lamb kebab was nicely done, although a bit drier than expected, having ordered it medium....the grilled salmon was a large piece of fish, which was tender and moist....the pasta dish was decadent and done perfectly al dente. The service was very good and they allow dogs on the patio deck. Unisex restroom inside is located next to a wine private room that can be reserved for special occasions.
