We visited family in Carmel this past week. We were treated to dinner at the Tree House Cafe. Absolutely delicious food!! My sister and I each thoroughly enjoyed a plate of mushroom ravioli pasta with the most wonderful sauce! My husband and I also shared a Ceasar salad that was very good. He had the Cioppino and thought it was delicious! We ate dinner in their private "wine room," which was really special. The wine selection and the service was also outstanding. Our new favorite restaurant in Carmel. Spectacular dinner of clam chowder (so tasty), grilled sea bass and prime rib (steak of the day). Flavorful Arnold Palmer (1/2 iced tea, 1/2 lemonade.) What's even more impressive is the service. As other Yelpers have noted, the staff is incredible. The stellar customer service started with the friendly woman who answered the phone, courteous hostess, waiter and bus person. The evening was made more memorable with the owner/manager stopped by to say hello at the beginnings of the meal then afterwards to check on us. Poor service, overcrowded sitting layout. The table was not clean either. The waiter brought us the salt shaker which was clogged and he just cleaned the top with his hands. Beware - this is not a 4 star restaurant. I had the yellow curry. It was average. The host was nice but wait staff rushed and rude. My wife had the Stroganoff, which was without flavor and either had the worst bit of beef tendon I've ever seen, or it was an actual piece of nitrile food prep glove. Not appetizing. The restaurant has a "cute" patio but aside from the perched location it's filthy. The single bathroom was disgusting. The floors were old and dingy. Tree House is my go to place to eat!!! Not only do they off the best Mediterranean cuisine, they also offer THAI curry dishes as well!!!! The yellow curry is the best I've had in the area! The hostess was very polite and the service was just PHENOMENAL! We had multiple servers and all of them were top notch. Most importantly, the food served to us was delicious! So fresh, vibrant and satisfying to eat. I had the Gyro Salad, and while briefly skeptical of the concept, loved it to bits once it arrived. There was two layers of beautifully seared gyro meat, slices of pita and an olive oil + some kind of slightly acidic vinaigrette which complimented the juicy meat so well. The salad also had feta cheese which was bursting with flavor. Such a mouthwatering combination! My dog had their grilled chicken and they even brought her a bowl of water! They also served this delicious complimentary bread with an olive oil sauce which was so crunchy and yummy! The clam chowder was pretty good too! 10/10 for food and 10/10 for service! This place was packed and the service was terrible. We were served dinner and they forgot the utensils and napkins. The food itself was mediocre for what you pay. I ordered the Yellow Thai curry echo here was supposed to be mild and it was super hot. I asked the server if maybe they gave me the spicy one by mistake and he said oh I can fix it trust me I'm a chef. A couple of minutes later I got the same dish watered down and tasteless. What a way to fix it! We had lasagna and that was a nice portion and according to our daughter it was tasty. The staff here are so so friendly, Once they arrange you sit, one staff would come to check in and asked or introduce the menus to you if you need. when I asked the sanitizer, one of them just Just handed one bottle of it to me immediately!!!! Been here previously and loved it. Came back years later and had a terrible experience. Server was extremely rude to my fiancée and I. After taking our order, he didn't check in with us once. Multiple tables were sat and finished their meals before we even received our appetizer. The restaurant is dog friendly so we brought our pup with us for brunch. Tree House Cafe may become our new "go to" spot for lunch in Carmel. We spotted it sometime ago while window shopping in Carmel and DH suggested we give it a try. Our pre-COVID visit was quite memorable. We were hoping for a table under a red umbrella on the patio which is literally "in the tree tops." But the wait was too long. Instead we were seated inside in a cozy corner by a window. As it turned out, inside seating was perfectly fine. (But with COVID, I am not sure that is an option.) Hard to make choices from the diverse menu. It is mostly Mediterranean with a few Thai curries. The couple who own Tree Top Cafe bring their international background to the cafe. He is a Jordanian and she is Thai. I began with a cup of lentil soup which was especially appealing on a chilly day -- typical Carmel weather. For my main course, I chose a Greek salad topped with a generous portion of gyros, along with a couple of pieces of pita bread. The pour on my sauvignon blanc was also more than generous. DH enjoyed his chicken pesto sandwich with a side salad and a beer for his beverage. Did I say the portions were generous? Yes! So I reluctantly passed on dessert. That is hard for me to do. But I was in luck. By the time we finished our meal, the lunch crowd was thinning out and we were chatting with the two owners. They sent over a complimentary plate of two bite-sized pieces of baklava. Perfect. When we are ready to travel again -- which I hope is soon -- Tree House Cafe will be a must stop in Carmel. Upon walking up to the door we were immediately greeted and asked if we would like to sit inside or outside. It was a beautiful day, so we decided to sit outside and were pleasantly surprised by the ample shade. We ordered the sea bass and the gyro sandwich. We were both extremely happy with what we ordered, but wow that sea bass was sooo flavorful!!!! We also had baklava which was delicious! Both the service and food were excellent!!!
