Part One:I've used this company for two months and I've already cancelled. Avoid!
First, their whole account sign up and paperwork process takes forever. Every step you do has to be approved by someone and then you're emailed with the next step. But you're paying from the first day. So despite not actually being able to receive mail for the first month (because yes, that's actually how long it took everything to get completed) of my subscription, I paid for it. Now, I will take responsibility for 1 week of that because I had to get something notarized and at the time I was living in a TINY town and worked during the one notary's hours but the other 3 weeks were on them. Even so, that notarized paper is the important piece that allows them to accept and open mail for you, so why charge the customer before they can do that?
Second, like a handful of other reviews stated, some companies would not accept the address provided to me as a real address. This wasn't a huge problem for me because I was planning on mostly using this address as my main/home base address while I moved around for my job a few months out of the year so I wouldn't continuously have to change bank/billing/dmv addresses but I always have a local PO box, so I was able to set that as my address when companies would't accept the Traveling Mailbox address. This would have been more inconvenient if I didn't open a PO box at every location I go to, like I'm sure most other people using this service don't do.
Third, they lost my mail and literally couldn't do anything to help me. Once I finally started getting mail there, I had about 5 things in my mailbox and had them forward my first batch of mail to me. I didn't do tracking because mailing an envelope full of other envelopes with tracking apparently costs almost $8 whereas no tracking is $2.75 (actually "starts at $2.75"). I did think about adding tracking but I figured how hard was it to get mail from Portland (where my address was) a few hours South to Reno (where I am now). Little did I know that the mail goes to Portland first, then they ship it to North Carolina, and THEN it gets shipped to me in Nevada. Believe me, I'm not naive to how the mail system works. I do understand that sometimes, things get lost. But in my experience, the postal service usually has their sh*t together. I ran a troop & veteran support organization for 4 years and shipped HUNDREDS of care packages and letters all over the world and country - not one of them was lost. My husband was an active duty Marine for a handful of years and through deployments and long distance, we exchanged another few hundred letters and 50-60 care packages - and still of all that, ONE letter was lost in Afghanistan and was eventually returned to me. So, it's now been 3 weeks & I've since received a second batch of mail that was forwarded to me after the first batch (I chose to pay for tracking that time) but still no first batch. When I call the Traveling Mailbox they tell me, "Sorry, there's no tracking number so we can't help you." No receipt number, no additional information, and try to end the conversation with me after advising I call my local post office to see if they're holding it (because that seems like a logical thing my post office would do vs just putting it in my mailbox. I'm sure they like hoarding people's mail.). Eventually I get them to tell me what kind of envelope it might be in, what the return address would read, and if it would have any other notations on it - I feel like those details would have been helpful if offered initially, instead of me having to ask specifically for them.
I've since called the post office and submitted a missing mail search/investigation. They were super helpful, unlike Traveling Mailbox. With that...
Fourth, I decided to cancel my subscription. So before I do, since I already paid for this month, I figured I would put in a "forward mail" request through the post office now, that way I can make sure everything forwards to me before the subscription gets cancelled. But you can't actually put in a "forward mail" request for any of their addresses because they are a mail collecting company. When I called Traveling Mailbox to ask how to go about getting mail forwarded, they said I had to contact every company that had their address and change it. Which is fine and dandy for my bank & credit cards but what about mail I didn't anticipate getting? For example, I anticipated receiving my vehicle title from the Oregon DMV. I actually received 4 pieces of mail from them. I assume one was the title but have no idea what the other 3 were because now they've disappeared. The Traveling Mailbox rep told me that they would continue to collect and hold any mail I received for the next 6 months and scan it to my account. I won't have access to that account and they won't notify me that they've received and scanned mail for me, but if I contact them to specifically ask if they received mail for me, they read more
