The fig was fresh and almost tasted like it was picked out that same day. 10/10 Chicken Alfredo: Best quality of noodles I've ever tasted in a pasta. Usually alfredo pasta is heavy, but this one was a great balance that didn't make you feel like shit after. The grilled chicken was just regular grilled chicken, but the mushrooms were so good! If you're not a huge mushroom person, this isnt for you. 10/10 Bolognese: My partner got this plate with meatballs. The noodles were also very fresh, but a tiny bit chewy in my opinion. The sauce was to die for and the meatballs were super flavorful. 9/10 Chocolate lava cake: My least favorite as it wasn't runny like how lava cakes are usually. Other than that, the flavors were there and the cake was super rich! Service: Our server was great and super helpful with her recommendations. Without her, we'd be lost. She was super honest with her opinions on what to order and what not to order (AKA "you could make this at home. Popped in here for a quick try with a friend. We had some wine and split a pasta dish and garlic bread. Wine selection was ok. Garlic bread came out and at first glance it looked kind of bland but it was actually very flavorful and good texture. Dipping sauces given with it were good too. We had originally ordered the cacio e Pepe pasta but the server came back and told us they were out of the Parmesan gnocchi it comes with but was told they could substitute a different pasta for it if we wanted. We opted for that and chose spaghetti. When we got the pasta, the dish tasted very bland (Ive had cacio e Pepe at most restaurants in SD too so I have a good basis for judging). We told the server and he was a gem and offered to replace the dish for us which we accepted. We got the bolognese pasta as the replacement and were very happy with it. Super good flavors on it and the pasta was cooked perfectly. The ambiance is interesting here. It's like kind of street cafe decor vibes and lighting is very bright. There is indoor and outdoor seating though which is nice. I definitely want to come back to try their happy hour as the menu looks good. read more

I've been wanting to come to this restaurant located on Adams Ave in the heart of Kensington and I was not disappointed. First, we were greeted by the friendly host immediately when we entered the restaurant. I really enjoyed the decorations as I walked to our table, looked like an Italian town with all the clothes hanging above the tables. I really enjoyed all the food that we shared family style. Easily a top 5 dinner experience anywhere I've been!! Fun fact, I went in January. It was so good I've been meaning to write this review since. Our server, Yuri, couldn't have been better. Everything he recommended was a 10/10. First of all, the tables that had a chair/booth were quite close to one another. I was worried I was going to knock over the centerpiece on the nearby table. Food-wise, the meatballs appetizer (Polpette) was absolutely delicious - highly recommend. I also really enjoyed the spicy rigatoni vodka as well as the Tartufosa. We added sausage to the spicy rigatoni and that was definitely a good choice. The chicken we added to the tartufosa was dry and lacking flavor. For dessert, we had cannoli and limoncello. The cannoli were alright, but they were not the best we've had in San Diego. The limoncello cake was DELICIOUS--a wonderful way to end this meal. I actually loved the ambiance of this restaurant. The food here was good, however the bad service knocked my overall rating down and overshadowed the entire experience for me. We got the calamari and the eggplant appetizers which were both good. For the pasta, we got the spinach ravioli which was my favorite and the pistachio spaghetti. I was expecting the pistachio flavor to be more subtle but it really was the star of the dish so if you like pistachio this is definitely the pasta dish for you. As for the service, when we walked in as a party of 3 people on a weekday, the host misunderstood and thought we were 6 people. He then immediately had an attitude and was rude to us about walking in without a reservation, which is when I corrected him and then he promptly seated us. Next, our waiter was extremely short with us and acted like we were inconveniencing him by being there and having to place an order for the food. What a cute little spot in Kensington! Made same day reservations for a friend and I. We arrived early and were sat right away. The interior had a beautiful fountain and cute decor. The service was wonderful and the bread bites with marinara were incredible. We ordered the grilled artichoke hearts--A MUST! The char from the fire was a nice touch. I love the tiramisu from cesarina and it seems like they did something similar, so we had to try it! I got the spicy rigatoni vodka pasta and I loved it! I added burrata for $8 extra and it was good! I don't think it was worth the $8 though. The pasta was creamy and delicious, not spicy though. My boyfriend got the sugo something and he enjoyed it! On a Christmas last minute dinner with friends we choose this little Italian restaurant hidden in Adams avenue. Excited about the braised short ribs we were all disappointed that they were sold out. We all decided on the holiday prefixed menu which included appetizers, entree and a dessert. I choose the imported from Italy buffalo mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil. The mozzarella was delicious its texture is richer with slight bold tangy flavor that balances with the acidic tomatoes. Next, I decided on the seadfood ravioli in a cream sauce. After coming back from Italy I began appreciating pistachios again. Curious on the dish I dove in and it was delicious. The textures made a difference when eating it all. Last, they were also out of all the desserts and came out with a cannoli. Service by Francesco was attentive even though throughout our dinning experience the tables were constantly full bustling with holiday cheer. The food, drinks, and services were excellent. We loved the pasta and the appetizers. It gets a little loud in there but it wasn't a big deal because we were having a great time with our guests. Docking one star only because it was so hot inside. We were sweating and the heat made us uncomfortable. We did ask for them to lower the thermostat but it just got hotter. I don't think they have air conditioning so dining here during the Summer won't be an option for us. We would have ordered more drinks and stay longer but we really wanted to get outside where it was cooler. I wouldn't go back anytime soon but perhaps in the cooler months. Also the waiter was great and attentive yet borderline inappropriate with trying to repeatedly make us lick the tiramisu spoon after he prepared the dish table side. Place is beautiful on the inside - very romantic, traditional Italian dècor, it is awe-inspiring from any angle. Menu is extensive, my friend and I tried the happy hour menu and were satisfied with the options and the value. It was nice to be able to try several options this way. The meatballs were the best - tender, flavorful. I am dodging one star for two reasons. For one, we had made a reservation at 4pm and the place didn't open on time. There was already a crowd outside wanting to go in. It didn't open until at about 4:20pm. And once inside, it took a while for someone to come bring a menu/take our order. The second reason was that server was kind of pushing the alcohol drinks on me. Even after I had said I was the designater driver, he still encouraged drinking and driving (as a joke, but still). Well well, what a delightful new spot in Kensington! We were able to get a reservation in the morning on a Friday. We arrived and noticed the overall design & decorations bringing you back to nana's house. We got sat in front of the fountain by the entrance, we didn't mind this. Holy cow, this blew our face and we wish we had this first! Mario was a nice treat, couldn't tell if he was the manager but he checked in, made sure we loved our food, kept our water filled, and treated us to Lemoncello! It felt friendly and familiar, that's a nice touch to a restaurant. We continued to get new silverware and plates when we changed dishes which we appreciated, we started with one entree and then chose a second. We shared every meal and I believe that really allowed us to enjoy each dish & rate it as we did. Good portions too for two!
