This is an outdated very charming diner. My friend and I happened upon it and it's become a favorite spot. Although it's not fancy and updated it lives up to the expectations of a diner in New Jersey. The coffee is great and hot the food is great and reasonably priced. Staff is friendly and the diner is clean.

We were visiting from out of town and looking for a diner on our drive home. This came up highly rated so we gave it a try. All our food was really good. Very typical diner stuff so nothing was out of the ordinary. My 7 year old had the French toast and he ate every bite of his and some of mine (it's usually a fight to get him to eat). I had the eggs, toast, and sausage. The sausage was really good. It wasn't the typical frozen type we usually see at a lot of diners. I also had a bagel with cream cheese which was really good and fresh. My husband had the steak and eggs and a short stack. He said it was really good. Our waitress was very very sweet and help. She brought crayons for our kids and chatted with us. Great little spot. Felt very comfortable and familiar. I wish Yelp had half stars because I would def give it a 4.5. It had nothing spectacular but everything was well done, familiar, and friendly. Would def come back again.

Photo speaks for itself !!! yummy :) This was good!

I love the old fashioned feel of the place!!! Reminds me of my childhood we use to eat in places like this. The onion rings are real and the burger is delicious!!! Yummy :)

For a diner, it fits what's expected! Nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing bad to report either.

Stopped in a few years back. Only 2 customers and no atmosphere. Appearance hasn't changed since. Food was ok at best. Maybe it's improved.

It's a little house and then they have a few tables outside... With great umbrellas! It started to rain while we were there and we were totally covered by the umbrella. I wish the zucchini omelette had shredded zucchini instead of chunks. But the home fries were very tasty, the coffee was good old diner style coffee, and Orlando was a super server. Definitely would come here again if I need to meet folks for breakfast in this area.

Walked in before 10, was given a friendly greeting and had a cup of coffee in my hand in less than a minute. Great coffee. I find extremely strong brews overwhelm the subtleties of coffee (I imagine that puts me in a small minority, but I know what I like). Honey's coffee was great. Choosing from a couple of dozen enticing choices wasn't easy; I went with a Mexican omelette. Served with pretty good home fries and very lightly buttered rye toast, I couldn't finish it. Little by little the small space with about a dozen and a half tables slowly filled up, yet I was never rushed. The second cup of coffee was s good as the first, and it was topped off by another friendly waitress (love teamwork). The place did get quite loud, but the sounds of happy people enjoying great food is one of the joys of life. A small parking lot abuts the restaurant. I intend to go back and I highly recommend it.

With that being said the service we received here yesterday was outstanding and better than any five star restaurant. I cannot say how wonderful our waiter was.. So the manager if you see this, please let me know if that's correct or not. This kid was incredible. He was helpful without being overbearing. He was great with his beer knowledge, but we really sold me was when there was a table behind us that had a son with special needs at this young man treated that table with kindness and compassion and really we need more of that. To the owner of this business, I know that the wait staff gets a very minimal amount per hour because they depend on tips, but if there's anyway you can raise his base pay, I would love to see that we were only gonna have one drink each, but because of how he treated us we ended up having two for me and three for my husband, that young man is an investment

And hence, our meal was the not so regular Greek Salad and Spinach Pie. It seemed so strange to us that the Owner / Cheff kept peeking out of the kitchen to see "who is ordering the food." Possibly to service two types of food. Left overs for the tourists, and good food for the regulars. Maybe I am making this up. Anyway, here is what we got --- Greek Salad - soggy and wilted lettuce mixed with old greek feta cheese. Spinach Pie - double oiled and fried pie with old and terribly salty spinach stuffing. It has been a long time since I tasted food this bad. It seems to come around during the holidays, when restaurants get rid of their inventory on customers who may never return again. And, that is true all around. The food was old, and dumped onto us. We just paid the bill and walked out. We will not go there again. Deep in our heart, will would like you to try the place, and " MAKE A DONATION TO THE GREEK FUND. " Because this Mom and Pop diner shurely needs all the help they can get. !!!!! There is an entrance with a ramp and stairs. I want to say that the workers at Garden State Tavern are the best! Everyone is extremely kind and welcoming. I attended a private event as this location. The room that they have is big, with plenty of windows, and very clean. They allowed us to bring in a band so having our own live music was great! They offered food in buffet style. This included pizza, chicken, and sliders. I would rate the food a 3/5. The staff was very attentive during my time there, always asking if we needed anything else.

However, the service was weak. Don't get me wrong our server was very nice and personable once he "finally" made it to our table. But the overall impression was that they were understaffed, overwhelmed and very disorganized. The appearance of the tavern is essentially unchanged from its predecessor, Brook Tap House. Which really isn't a bad thing. Tastefully appointed with lots of TV's to watch your favorite game. I just wish that they would invest in some sound deadening materials as the dining area can get very loud. I will definitely dine at GST again. Hopefully they can get their service figured out before our next visit.

The staff I encountered were friendly & patient, which is shockingly not the norm these days! I ordered the tuna melt & fries & took a seat at the counter. I was the only one sitting along the counter, but there are also a few tables in the back that had parties at them. My food was ready relatively quickly & was served to me with a smile. The fries were of the steak cut variety, which aren't my favorite, but no fault of the delis - just my personal preference. They were cooked well & served hot - can't ask for much more! The tuna melt was actually a sandwich & not an open faced sandwich, as they tend to be, and I found that to be a pleasant surprise. Open faced tend to get soggy quickly. The tuna was aplenty & it was delicious. The bread was perfectly toasted & buttery as well. I do wish it was served with a pickle spear, though. Not sure if that's the norm & mine was forgotten or if it is not served as such. Either way, I'm obviously grasping at straws. Otherwise, it was a delightful lunch. I'm happy to have discovered The Cutting Board & even happier they are in the immediate area of my job, I will definitely be back to try more.
