Had breakfast here. My server was soooo sweet and attentive. So much so that I would like to START my review thanking her! Definitely made my day :) What a great start to the day! My breakfast was selected as my hotel Welcome Gift. I really like the omelette station - delicious and good size. They were not big, so you can still enjoy other things at the buffet. I really like the salsa they had on the side. The fruit was nice and sweet, as usual in Florida! There was a smoothie option that was tasty! The chicken sausage patties were a bit dry but still good; at least they weren't over oily. Overall, good experience at an American breakfast buffet. Located inside the Renaissance Sea World hotel, Tradewinds is a pretty standard destination across the board. The service was just fine, the food was just fine, and the ambiance was just fine. Nothing that is going to stand out too much, but you could probably do worse as well. The Fish & Chips weren't really "Cajun" except they included hush puppies, which weren't all that good. The fish was decent but again, not "Cajun" in really any sense of the word. The fries were solid. As I said, not going to blow your mind, but nothing too off putting either! read more

Wow, this was a very pleasant surprise. I was avoiding it all week thinking it was just another mediocre, high priced, captive hotel restaurant. Boy was I wrong. High priced, captive - but certainly not mediocre. I kind of regret not eating here earlier or expanding on the menu. I started off with the clam chowder and was simply blown away. Thick and creamy with oysters and chunky potatoes. Some of the potatoes needed longer to cook and were crunchy, but they were a rare bite. It came with a melted cheesy topped bread that was a fantastic addition if you aren't screaming away from carbs. I long lost that delusion so found them quite tasty. The entree's were a bit lonely. In the fad to a la carte the sides (fad = upsizing the charges), the entry came unaccompanied by nothing. I knew that going in and just omitted that since I ordered the soup. Should have been three stars for that alone, but the service was over the top good and so was the food. For an entree I had the salmon. It was perfectly cooked with a splendid peppery, onion sauce that complemented the fish well. Along for the ride came three ideal shrimp. If you are in the hotel, don't avoid this place. The service is top shelf and the food is well worth the pricing. If this weren't in a hotel it would be better recognized. Pro tip: Unless you live in Florida, do NOT order water. Every restaurant I visit in Orlando gives you tap water that would be considered toilet bowl fresh anywhere else. They are well used to the sulphuric aftertaste, but you likely aren't. The Hot buffet is made to order, the cold sections are stocked up. There's a bit of everything including fruits and fresh OJ. I need to start off by saying that I am surprised at the bad reviews. My experience, the 3 times we ate there was very good. We did eat only breakfast so I haven't seen the rest of the menu, however our experience with service was excellent. As mentioned we did the breakfast buffet during our 3 days we were at the Renaissance Sea World. The buffet was a nice variety of very healthy to not so healthy, but it's always your choice. There was steelcut oats and lots of add ins like chia, flax, sliced almonds, brown sugar and more. I am a salt kinda oatmeal girl. The omelet station was well stocked with a nice variety of add ins...egg whites were available and fresh over easy eggs & scrambled were also available. The first 2 days chef Tommy handled it all...3 burners going...pancakes and waffles. He was able to move the line quickly and still have a nice conversation with people in line. Day 3, 2 chefs had to handle the line and a separate station was set up for pancakes. Available also was fresh fruits and veggies to make your own juice or eat on its own. The fruit was fresh and delish...I kept on going back for more. There was a nice variety of breads...bagels, English muffins, plain bread and croissants. There was also cream cheese, peanut butter, butter, almond butter and various jellies. Bacon was crispy and not greasy. There was regular sausage and turkey sausage. Pre made scrambled eggs made in small batches. Everything was in small batches, so all was hot and fresh and kept filled nicely. There were donuts and a Krispy creme bread pudding (dangerously good). Service was excellent all 3 days. Coffee & orange juice hit the table pretty quickly. It was nice to have a carafe of hot fresh coffee on the table. We also were given banana smoothie shots. Due to resort fees, our daughter ate for free. This included her drink. We were offered coffee to go and there was also oranges and bananas to go as well. All in all we could have left the hotel and eaten a little cheaper, however the buffet was awesome and worth it the price. We weren't rushed out...not even when we had already paid our bill and my daughter's friend joined our table (as a surprise) and we ended up sitting with them for another hour. Very good food, I have no complaints as to the quality of the food whatsoever! The aged ribeye is something you will not soon forget, and the roasted marrow... wow! The prices are a bit steep, though being inside of a destination resort, not surprising. The lost star is due to serving size. When you market something as shareable, it seems to me there should be enough to share! Two scallops is hardly shareable, U-10 or not. After pushing for us to do the buffet ($35/each and 20% auto gratuity for serving ourselves) the server came and put two coffee pitchers on the table without asking if we wanted coffee, so we assumed it was included. He also started pouring juice for everyone and didn't wait for yes/no before starting to pour. Only one of us managed to say no before he'd poured. We didn't see coffee or juice on the menu so we assumed both were included. Otherwise why serve it without anyone requesting it? They charged $6 per juice and $5 per coffee (I guess he kept tabs on who poured coffee? Impressive considering he barely checked on us). The food took half an hour to come out . The food was okay, pretty typical hotel breakfast food, the kind most places have complimentary but this was $20/plate ($35 if you want buffet). When I questioned the juice and coffee charge he claimed some "people had said yes when he offered and they drank it, sorry." He was just padding his automatic 20% gratuity. I Ordered the clam chowder for myself and the salmon for my oldest son to go. I will have to say the clam chowder was very good. It was very creamy, buttery and full of chunks of potatoes, corn and clams of course. The clams were not chewy just the right amount of bite. Per my son the salmon was good. We had the breakfast buffet and loved it. So many option- far more than what we would normally see. From fruit to breads, pastries to pancakes and eggs to bacon - with extras like grits, sausage and biscuits and steel cut oatmeal there is no way anyone is going hungry if you eat here. The server was super accommodating. Brought me soy milk for coffee and oatmeal. Very easy to eat vegan too. It was absolutely delicious and fresh. We plan on doing it again tomorrow and Sunday! Decided to go out for Thanksgiving dinner. 3 of us. Tradewinds offered a buffet which was our preference. I didn't realize how big & how nice the Renaissance Hotel is. The restaurant was busy but not crowded. We arrived early, checked in & went to the lobby bar for a drink. Not many at the bar & the service was great. I received a text when our table was ready. Our server, Deicy, greeted us, offered water as we brought our drinks from the bar & explained the process. She was friendly, professional & informative. The buffet was stocked, had many, many options, the presentation was appealing & the food delicious. A couple of trips & multiple plates were necessary. As we finished w/plates, they were whisked away by attentive but unobtrusive staff. It was relaxing, filling & I need to find out if they do brunch on the weekends bc I forgot to ask while there. If you're staying at the Renaissance, check out the breakfast buffet and ask for Anna. Although pricey, the buffet was really good. So good that we've gone every morning since checking in despite the price. The buffet has an omelet station with veggies, meats and chicken sausage. There's cheese, too, of course. There are fresh chopped fruits and veggies for eating or to place in the juicer to make freshly-squeezed juice of your choice. My favorite, smoked salmon, was also on the menu. Further down the line, there's oatmeal with several topping choices, biscuits with gravy, grits, meat choices and scrambled eggs if you skipped the omelets. Oh, I forgot that waffles and pancakes made-to-order are also options. To satisfy the sweet tooth, there are several pastry options and doughnuts (our sons couldn't resist) and cereal. The fresh squeezed orange juice is the best I think I've ever had. And, Anna, our requested server of choice, made sure our glasses were never empty! read more

Our family stayed in the hotel so as part of the resort fee, 2 kids eats free with a purchase of 1 adult breakfast from the menu or buffet. The weekday adult buffet price is $28, yes it's pricey but I felt the options and quality were in line with the cost. Also, the staff was attentive and pleasant. Buffet choice highlights: eggs-ANY style, meats-all the usual and amazingly delicious chicken sausage patties and thin sliced Italian deli meats, biscuits and gravy, juicing station, lox, fruit, banana bread pudding(!!!) and banana French toast. Ok, Breakfast is terrible. I cannot speak for the other services. My server was very fast and friendly so no complaints there. However, I would never spend $28 Dollars on breakfast that had this kind of horrible buffet. Can anyone tell if "Caribbean Potatoes are supposed to be over cooked, dried out, unseasoned and with fried banana slices in it. Overall it is a tourist place and not what I expect for a restaurant in a Renaissance Hotel. But then again the hotel was not all that great either so I guess it all fits. Eat elsewhere. read more

They really should be ashamed of themselves for offering this as a menu item. Revamp this immediately and stop wasting people's money. I ate at Tradewinds twice while at the Renaissance for a conference. First for the breakfast buffet. The woman at the omelette station was delightful. Personable, efficient and we had a nice conversation. The buffet itself has several great options. Even though I felt like I was containing myself, it's was easy to over do it. Lots of tasty options. The chicken sausage and the grits were exceptional. Also had lunch. Ordered the catfish sandwich and told the server I'm not a kale fan. She convinced me to try the kale slaw. She did not disappoint as it was outstanding. The food at Tradewinds is only exceeded by the outstanding service. Sure made it a great few days "stuck" at the hotel. read more

The highlights were the fresh made juices (make your own combination), kombucha on tap, cold pressed coffee, great staff and delicious hot entrees (cinnamon French toast, waffles, fresh eggs, and delicious homemade chicken sausage to name a few). After a late night at the hotel gym, I decided to stop by Tradewinds with a few pals and ordered the watermelon salad. The menu listed the cheese as being "grilled," so I anticipated some lovely charred cubes of cheese. Instead, I got a whopping steak of cheese that looked like a chicken breast. Never thought I'd be eating slabs of cheese with a fork and knife. My friends got French onion soup, which was brought out and served with the staff and cooks knowing that it was overly salty. With tax and tip, $27 - the last time I paid close to $30 for breakfast was in Zurich, Switzerland, one of the most expensive cities in the world. This ain't Zurich. They bring coffee to the table which obliges you to tip. Good omlette and good self serve fresh juice (you make your own juice, which was fun). Excellent service. Tip: GET A CAR and drive to the WaWa down the road, MCD or KeKes a few miles away. This hotel will nickle and dime you for meals. Most restaurants deliver here including Dominos pizza. read more

Kind of a middle-of-the-road place. It's located in the lobby of the Renaissance Hotel and is probably best for folks staying in the hotel simply for the convenience. Angus burger and fries were just fine - a chicken dish my wife ordered was decent, but the grilled chicken served to our daughter was oddly stiff and dry. She didn't want to eat it. (Kids eat free there on Fridays and Saturdays, so if nothing else, we didn't have to pay for it.) Staff was attentive and polite. We were in a hurry to get back to the room to pack and the waitress was nice enough to offer to bring coffee and tea in travel cups. A nice touch that we appreciated. Aesthetically, the restaurant is pleasant enough - this is an odd complaint, and it really is just personal taste, but it seemed to have a lot of empty space. The lobby and atrium of the Renaissance is just a massive area of open space and the restaurant seems to have adopted that on a miniature scale. Lots of room between tables. Was not crowded either night we were there -- there was, however, a long line for breakfast in the mornings. read more

I recently joined my husband for a work conference and we chose to stay at the Renaissance due to their stellar reviews and location to the convention center, and who could pass up an opportunity to explore Disneyworld with our little 18mo old? To preface, my day started out horrible. My daughter discovered her old milk cup from the night before and managed to drink from it before I could take it away from her. She ended up being sick a couple of times which I wasn't prepared for. I also wasn't prepared for my husband forgetting to leave us a room key behind but managed to leave his credit card. (This will play a big role in the future) While realizing I should probably get another key made I went to look for my backpack with my wallet and ID in it. Low and behold my husband accidentally left it at the Tradewinds restaurant the night before. In all actuality I don't blame him, we were all exhausted from a full day at Disneyworld. I decided it was safe to venture out and attempt to retrieve my belongings. Worst case scenario, I had my husbands credit card with our name on it. I made it to Tradewinds with a warm greeting from Robyn Hill. I explained to her the backpack situation and she promptly called security and managed to track down a backpack that was left but we still weren't 100% sure if it was mine. The only caveat was that we would have to wait a little while because they had one more job in front of us. That was no problem, we were hungry so we decided to take advantage of the breakfast buffet. Since my daughter was still a bit under the weather she wasn't too into the food but I still appreciated the variety for her to nibble on. While dining she decided she had enough and got up out of the high chair. I sat her down next to me only to find she was entertaining herself with dads credit card. Moments later she put it back down on the booth only for it to slip through the crack and into oblivion. I seriously want to point out a flaw in the design as anything that falls through becomes instantly inaccessible due to built in cushions and a the solid footboard. So completely shattered from my day I honestly didn't think it could get worse. I had no form of payment, no ID and a very cranky 18mo old that was ready to go back to the room. Robyn rushed to the rescue and reassured me that she would do what ever she could to get the card back. She called engineering and we sat waiting in suspense. She had no clue the day I was going through but consistently made me feel reassured. Not much longer a gentleman Navigator approached with a stuffed animal and offered it to my daughter. What a relief it brightened up her day and mine and really turned my whole attitude around. It kept her entertained long enough to wait for security to bring the bag, get the card out of the booth and it also became her new sleeping buddy for the trip. Thanks again to Robyn and your whole team for really assisting in making our whole stay a really wonderful one! We would definitely consider the Renaissance Orlando again for any future travel. read more

Went for lunch on a Saturday, the restaurant was almost deserted. The waiter was slow and inattentive. Ordered rock shrimp chowder and fish&chips. The chowder has no flavor, the fish fingers in the fish and chips were tiny and over-done, the fries were dry and lukewarm. The total bill was almost $30. Way too expensive for what you get. Avoid this restaurant unless it's the only option available. read more
