I found Trades Mechanical on Yelp and decided to contact them for a noise issue I had for my own refrigerator and a broken ice maker in one of my rental units in the same UES building. Junior, the owner, answered the call and we scheduled for him to come in to run a diagnostic of the appliance issues. Junior came in on a Saturday, but was prevented by my building from fixing the issues because I forgot to tell Junior about the need to bring evidence of insurance. Junior amicably worked with my doorman and agreed to only look at the problems and would not conduct any actual work on that day. Junior came up to the apts and quickly figured out what was wrong with the appliances. He informed me that he deals with buildings in UES all the time and getting insurance was not an issue for his company (he just needed a heads up on the insurance, which again was my bad). The following Monday, Junior emailed the EOI to the building super and quickly advise me to check with my super to ensure receipt. Junior came back the following Saturday - he would have came back sooner, but me and my tenants weren't available during weekdays due to busy schedule. When he came back, he quickly replaced two fans that were causing the noise in the refrigerator and replaced the ice maker in my tenant's unit. He even explained to me and my tenant the cause of the ice maker breakdown (lack of proper maintenance of the water filter) and advised us on the proper maintenance to avoid future problems. Junior and his team were very professional and efficient in their work. He was also very accessible. He was very good at responding to my texts on status of insurance and rescheduling. I didn't have any issue with getting TIMELY responses and status feedback from Junior. It provided me assurance that Junior would always respond to my inquiries. Junior, the front man, never came to my house instead he sent a sub-contractor, a $100 service call. Their quote, $750 to replace the compressor!. They assured me it would be like a brand new fridge. After agreeing It took close to begging from my part for them to come after the Thanksgiving weekend to service my fridge, cash was paid i full to settle my bill, a week later the refrigerator stopped working, numerous intents calls/texts went unanswered during the next for 4 days before they for them to agree on a 3rd visit after which Ryan assured me it may need a 4th visit and now they booth ignoring my texts and not taking my calls, 14 DAYS LATER, after an expensive repair I don't have a working refrigerator I only have the aggravation of having to deal with irresponsible, incompetent technicians. My apt. has a Royal Rose gas range & while I am able to find some vintage replacement parts, fewer & fewer people have the expertise to do the special work she deserves. Although she was made in Brooklyn, only one or two companies in all 5 boroughs will provide the service. T.M.A.R. sent an expert to me. I called around noon & was given a time window of between 2-3 & the expert arrived at 2:10. I begged him to let me help clean up but he explained that it was part of his service. I could not be happier! Additional selling points: 90-day warranty, courtesy, efficiency, plus the service fee was HALF that of another company. I am so grateful they were not available! read more

I called this business today and spoke with a gentleman by the name of Junior. I found him to be very polte and couteous. My problem was that my washer was leaking from under the bottom and he came with hours to look at it and was very honest to let me know that it would be cheaper to purchase a new washer because my transmission and gasget had gone on the one I have. Yes, the reviews really are true. As skeptical as I was, I have to say the service is great. I called on Monday about my Miele dishwasher that would´not fill. I had called another place(recommended by Miele ) and they said it would be three weeks for an appointment. On Monday, Junior diagnosed the problem (same problem Miele said) and said he could order the part and come on Wednesday. I got an appointment for Wednesday afternoon, and unfortunately I was not notified that the part did not come till too late so I waited for nothing. But things happen, and after I contacted Junior that night, he got right back to me and sent someone on Thursday. Junior has been a life-saver more than once, and this is a long overdue review. Well over 10 years ago Junior was sent by the company he then worked for, to take a look at our well-worn fridge, which was steadily failing us, at our loft in Chelsea. We had been told by a previous repairman that we would need to ditch the fridge, and indeed, when we described the problem to Junior's employers, we were told the same thing, although they promised to send a repairman to check it out. Junior was that repairman. He arrived, was super pleasant, agreed that the fridge probably had another few days to live, but offered to do a small repair on it in the hopes that it would last us for another couple of weeks max - basically, he said, enough time for us to research, purchase, and install a new fridge. We were very impressed with his operational abilities - he was swift, articulate, and appeared very capable. He left us with a clear sense of the imminent demise of our fridge, but not before sharing his contact details with us. We retained his number initially because we like him and found him efficient. And we were glad we did, not least because the fridge which he worked on and promised would expire in weeks, lived on for over 7 more years. Indeed it didn't die - we only said goodbye to it when we decided to upgrade our kitchen (and our fridge to sleeker model) in order to rent our place out, and move to a house we purchased in Brooklyn. Within those 7 years we called Junior back many times (never to work on the fridge) to work on other appliances in our loft - our washing machine, our dryer, and our dishwasher. Each and every time, without fail, he did a brilliant job. We have used him time and again at our house in Brooklyn, and he has always delivered. He is, sadly, not always available (and is now quite far away from our new place, and doesn't always return calls), but he has always been incredibly good at what he does. He has now expanded his business with a coterie of other hand-picked workmen, from carpenters to plumbers, and plasterers. Indeed, one of the last times he worked for us was when the floor of the bathroom in our Brooklyn house was inundated with water from a leaky toilet, thus weakening the ceiling below. He and his helper reinstalled the toilet properly, removed the old ceiling, and installed and plastered a new ceiling. It was quite a job, done in record time, and done beautifully. We are huge fans of Junior (and now his crew), and would likely use him more regularly, were the distance between the Bronx and Brooklyn more easily overcome, and were he more readily available. We have nevertheless recommended him to others in Manhattan who are closer to him, and we wish him every success with his new business model. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!! I WOULD GIVE IT A ZERO RATING IF THERE IS ONE. I almost never give bad reviews since I usually try to resolve the matter with the business or forget about it if it is not a big deal, however after multiple times of trying to contact Junior, my fridge is still not fixed. Junior first came to see my fridge in October 2017. The cooler keeps on freezing my groceries and the temperature is fixed at 32F. I paid him around 400 dollars for the fridge and after a week, the same problem persists. He initially said that the fridge has a one year warranty with Trades Mechanical in case it isn't fixed, however it took him another week to respond to my message and finally he came to "diagnose" it in mid November. He said he will be ordering new parts but never followed up or responded to messages until I called and texted him for probably 10 times. When we finally were able to agree on a date for him to install the parts, he cancelled on me multiple times last minute with excuses such as bad weather conditions, too much traffic, need to take care of kids, the other assistant couldn't make it etc. Every time, I try to trust his reasons and give a lot of patience to this process. In Mid December, he finally comes to install the parts and guess what? One week after, the fridge still has the SAME problem. After another chain of multiple texts and calls (which most never receive a response), we finally scheduled him to come by today (this is mid january already). He again didn't show up after ignoring my multitude of texts and calls. By this point, I haven't been able to use my fridge for almost half a year, not to mention all the hassle it has created for him to constantly cancel on my appointments (when I have to take off time from work just to be in the apartment and wait for him). I have been extremely patient with Junior but he doesn't respect your time and isn't able to fix your fridge. After they make their money, they just disappear! I don't know if I will be able to get my money back but this place is a SCAM! I will be reporting it as a scam/fraud if they do not give me a refund. What a waste of time, please avoid! read more

He spoke at length and gave me ideas re a LG Washing machine which vibrated on spin terribly. The super and I removed the dryer on top, determined that a damping assembly appeared to be bad and ordered the part. $20 for the part and hopefully the solution. This company is Fantastic! My Sub Zero refrigerator wasn't working and the fan needed an immediate replacement. The refrigerator was getting hotter and hotter and reached an internal temperature of 91 degree Fahrenheit. This happened on a Saturday morning . I called Sub Zero company and they gave me three company #s that were factory certified Sub Zero repair companies. Trades Mechanical was the only one open on the weekends and when I called them they immediately set up time to come and repair. Junior was an absolute lifesaver. The dishwasher was a pretty simple operation; the range really needed for them to get in, assess the situation and work at creating a fix.
