My dishwasher was leaking water from the bottom. I am generally a DIY'er, but there are 2 things I don't mess around with: electricity and water ... time to call in a professional. I found Knicks Appliance Repair on Yelp and called them. Nick called back and scheduled an appointment to drop by after 6 PM to look at the problem. He shows up as scheduled and proceeds to examine the dishwasher. He finds that a rubber housing has worn out and needs to order a replacement. I gave him a deposit for the replacement part and he came back to install it a few days later. The dishwasher has been working beautifully since. Nick was friendly, informative and very responsive. Stewart came to troubleshoot my dryer issue with massive lint and not drying properly. He cleaned the dryer by taking the drum out and the vent hose but the problem was the vent hose that was going outside of the house. It was completely clogged. He even came back next day (Saturday) and temporarily fixed it and charged me only for the parts because he said there are others who can do better than him. He only works with the machine. My refrigerator was leaking so I called Knicks Repair. Apparently he was unable to come but referred me to another service repair person, Leslie Steward who has his own business Appliance Tech, Inc. located in Brooklyn. He did a fabulous job repairing my refrigerator. He also came back to replace a broken hinge on the refrigerator, replace a gasket on the oven and fix one of the burners. I feel that I have all new appliances again. So Knick, please let Stewart know that I gave him a 5 star rating because he can't be reached by Google or Yelp. I've had Nick do all my repairs the past 10 years. He is by far the best!!! I texted him yesterday with a problem with my front loader LG Washer. He made time, after hitting 2 or 3 other jobs. He was here about an hour and worked his a** off. Took off the dryer (stacked) and in tight quarters replace the motor sensor. After talking with me and the wife, he was off to his next job in LI. At least a 14 hour day just to make you feel like he really cares. I've had bad technicians before but this man is by far the best and I highly recommend him to anyone. My dishwasher and stovetop stopped working properly. When I reached out to the manufacturing company, Bosch, they suggested that I replace the appliances since they're over 10 years old. I hired Nick to replace the old appliances with the new. On the date of service, Nick showed up on time. He even informed me of his eta during transit. After a brief examination, Nick took the initiative and suggested that I get fix my old appliances fixed because he's confident that he can! While working on them, he explained why they weren't working properly, what he's doing to fix them, and what I can do to maintain them. He taught me so much! Nick is an easy-going, knowledgeable, genuine, communicative...overall a great guy. Our dryer started taking 3 hours to dry, and continued to be a problem even after a vent and machine cleaning. Other companies told us that it was still a vent issue, but Stewart was happy to try to diagnose our problem. He was responsive and flexible when setting up a time to service our dryer. Our dryer is stacked in a tight closet, so it required two people to remove. Once out, Stewart quickly determined the issue with the gas valve cutting in and out, and he replaced the valve on the spot. Now our dryer works in 1/3 the time! read more

Nick was great from the start. He responded to me in yelp within the hour on a Sunday and made the appt for Mon 9-10 am. He came promptly at 9:50 am and was polite, removed his shoes and proceeded to evaluate the refrigerator in the basement. He knew what the problem was and was able to order the part and obtain it by the end of the day. Since it was too late, he came the next evening at 6 pm to complete the job. He had already defrosted my freezer b/c the ice was blocking the cold air from moving up to the refrigerator. He spent an hour doing that. When we thought our oven was literally toast after a little mis-hap, we searched on yelp for anyone who could help with appliance repair. Since Knick had good ratings, we gave him a call, not knowing what to expect. Luckily, he more than delivered. He gave us a 2-hour time frame that he would show up between, and he was willing to fit us in his schedule for the day after we called. He was very knowledgeable and informative about what the issue with our oven was and helped us clean out the parts to ensure it would work again. He walked us through what he was doing, and why he was doing it. His service fee for labor is very reasonable, worth every penny considering he made us feel much more confident about attempting to use our oven again. My 5 year old Whirlpool 'fridge stopped cooling things. I wasn't sure what the issue was but I knew things were no longer cold and refreshing. My freezer worked - it would make ice cubes - but things like ice cream sandwiches were a bit squishy. This was no way to live. I called Queens NY Appliance after reading the 3 reviews that were up there and reading their website (which popped up on top of the search results on Google). I spoke with a guy named Nick, who wasn't perhaps the most eloquent of speakers but seemed nice enough; I figured I wasn't hiring him to write me a speech, just to fix my 'fridge. He agreed to come check out my 'fridge on Good Friday - my next day off from work. He said he'd be there between 9 and 11 am, but would call about 30 minutes in advance to give me a heads up. True to his word he called me at about 9:45 am and showed up about 10:20. My one and only complaint - and this is minor - is he didn't warn me in advance to have my freezer empty. No big whoop, it only took about 2 minutes to get everything out... and perhaps that should have been common sense on my part. He got right to work, turning off the appliance, unscrewing the back panel and chipping away at the giant ice chunks lining the back wall of my "self defrosting" freezer. He asked I place the now removed back panel, with built in fan, in the bathtub so the ice encasing it could melt and he requested I provide him with a large pot of hot water and two absorbent towels. No problem. I left him be. After about 30 minutes I went back to the kitchen, where he was hacking away at ice and asked if he'd figured out what was wrong. He explained to me the heater (part of the defroster) was broken. He said he could get the replacement part and install it that same day. I asked how much it would all cost and he quoted me $180. He explained he needed to remove more ice before he could go though. About 20 minutes later he called e back in. He showed me the broken part - a long thin clear tube, sealed at both ends and pointed to some burn marks inside and explained this was the issue. He said my fridge and freezer would work for now without the part but the problem would return unless I replaced it. I thought his price was fair and I agreed. He turned the appliance back on so I'd have a few hours of cold and left, requesting only that I not discard the broken part until he came back. He again promised to call about 30 minutes in advance of coming. He called at about 4:00pm, showed up about 4:35 and got right to work again. He was done in about 20 minutes. He made sure to let me know, in a non-pushy way, and with a smile, that he fixes all sorts of appliances and gave me his card. Its been about a week now and the refrigerator and freezer work perfectly. I absolutely would recommend him or use him again if anything else should break. read more
