The freezer in our garage stopped working after only 3 years! Needless to say, we were very frustrated and disappointed. We found AV Appliance services through an internet search after reading so many positive reviews. Victor came the next day after we made the appointment. After a quick look at the freezer, and a long time defrosting the issue, Victor was able to fix it for a reasonable price. Fingers crossed, everything has been great so far. Update: I have used AV Appliance four times now. Each with perfect results. Most recently Robert fixed the ignition on my Kitchenaid gas stove. In the past he has replaced the board on my GE fridge, replaced a baffle, and repaired a water hose. In each case he was on time, arrived with the pets he needed (I guess based on the quick description given on the phone), and charge a very reasonable fee. This is a great "go to" appliance repair outfit. Robert know his stuff. Recommend very very highly. read more

No one wants to wake up in the morning to find that everything in their 13-year-old GE Profile refrigerator/freezer is completely warm! We pulled it out and cleaned the compressor coil, but no luck--decided we needed a professional to take a look. I made a number of phone calls and AV Appliance Services picked up right away and they were able to send someone THAT SAME DAY (for a reasonable visit fee). The repairperson found that the fridge relay had gone kaput and he was able to replace it on the spot and get the fridge running again. Such a relief! For the last 8-10 years I have been working with AV Appliance on my wine cooler, sub zero refrigerator and Stove. They have ALWAYS been remarkable! On time, super nice- EXPERTS on all of my appliances and even recently when Sears started using 3rd party techs, and couldn't fix my Kenmore Dryer, I call AV and asked if them could help- they came the SAME DAY and fixed everything! Responsive and responsible. Owner is Robert, his father Victor serviced our old Whirlpool dryer-- he "grew up" with the older appliances. Fantastic outcome, he knew immediately--checked the two options he considered might be the problem and within an hour, all was working 100%. Very thorough, respectful of the surroundings, cleaned behind the stackable washer/dryer of old lint/dust, and altogether straightforward. Terrific and honest. Robert was careful in his examination and proposed a possible solution (for the price of the service call alone!) before we go straight to part replacement. Great service! Decided to give them a try based on reviews. Easy to get an appointment. I described my GE fridge problem over the phone, Robert explained 2 possible reasons and gave me a quote for both repairs which I appreciated. Robert was able to quickly identify the problem and he had brought the part along. The repair took 20 min. As a bonus, he noticed my apt dryer was running and offered to check the filter and unclogged it. I would definitely call this company again, professional and experts at repair!! Robert (the owner?) responded quickly and put in a 'new' machine in our office. However, it wasn't installed properly (i.e. a metal plate at the bottom came off when opening the machine), then it wouldn't turn on, and finally the water didn't drain out during a wash cycle. His responses: "If it's working after 24 hours it's out of my hands.", "Call the manufacturer", "What do you want me to do about it?" I've seen bad service before but his lack of willingness to take any responsibility is what prompted me to write this review. In other words: happy to make a recommendation, happy to install, and happy to take the money, but after that... helplessness. read more

These guys- and it full candor, I only met Victor- are THE BEST! Call them now if you have any appliance troubles. He was the third refrigerator repair service that we called. He diagnosed the problem in 45 seconds, and fixed it in 45 minutes. The previous repair people had come a total of four times and while tinkering and replacing each time, never correctly diagnosed the problem. Robert from AV appliance services was highly recommended to me by a neighbor. My 20-year-old GE monogram refrigerator died while we were out of town and it was beyond repair. I was in a bind and needed to replace it ASAP. He went out of his way to come meet with me on a Sunday and he and his colleague were able to remove the old and recommend a new one along with servicing my Viking stove. And install the water filtration system. He was so professional and pleasant to work with and very fair prices. Highly recommend him and his company. read more

The freezer on my 29 year old Subzero quit. I called a different company, who came and told me I needed a new compressor ($2500) and possibly a new evaporator ($1000 additional if I did the compressor.) I decided to see if this price was standard, and called AV Appliance. They quoted $1600 for the compressor, and an additional $400 if I needed an evaporator, a savings of $1500. I told them to order the parts but they wanted to check the freezer out themselves. First interesting news, my compressor was fine, according to Victor. I needed freon. An infusion of freon worked for a day, and then it warmed up. He returned and found a leak in a pipe that could be circumvented, but the system also had to be vacuumed out as the leak contaminated the system. I saw evidence of the leak, and my super confirmed this that contamination was a big deal. This vacuuming was done twice, once by Victor, once by Robert. Each time it chilled, then cooled. Victor was daunted but Robert returned, disassembled the freezer, and said the only thing left was the ancient aluminum coils. The cost to replace was $1600, but he would deduct what I paid for the original freon. He ordered a replacement, installed the new coils, and the freezer is working again! He deducted what I paid originally, so the total was $1600. I am impressed by their determination to solve the problem, and the fact that after the original bill, no more money was paid until they solved the problem. I would definitely use them again!!! Happy to have avoided a new Subzero to fit the builtins at $12,000! read more

As the owner of many apartments in NYC, I always have appliances that need repair. Several years ago, I found AV Appliances searching online and have been using them frequently to repair stoves, refrigerators, washer/dyers and, dishwashers. Recently, I used Robert to repair an old Mitsubishi Split System AC that is no longer manufactured.They were able to replace the control board on two of my units saving me the thousands of dollars I would have had to spend to replace with a new system. Stay far away from AV Appliance Service if you have Kitchenaid built in refrigerator. I very rarely take the time to submit lengthy review however this service was so horrific that if i can save someone the trouble from dealing with them it is worth it. We called as we had issues with our freezer keeping cool. Technician showed up once and made attempt to diagnose the problem and work on cooling issue came back and worked on fixing. There was a pool of water all over the kitchen, he put food from freezer all over the floor and just left it there and didn't bother to communicate in advance he needed a towel and remove the food. Tech left and an hour later our freezer was frozen shut and we could not open, further the fridge than started to overheat. Tech came back 3 times to unfreeze the freezer that continued to freeze up. I asked tech why this continued to happen and he admitted he didn't install correctly. We had no freezer for close to a month and no fridge for 2 weeks. I ended up calling Kitchenaid and getting recommended vendor that came and fixed the problem. AV continues to send bills for services never delivered and performed when they clearly know that they did not deliver on service. Do yourself a favor and if you have appliance issue to call the manufacturer directly and find recommended vendor, i would stay far and away from AV Appliance Service. read more
