In general, I'm a fan of Publix for their fresh produce, fresh-cut fruit bowls, deli subs ("Pub Subs"), and pharmacy. They offer a superior shopping experience and customer service compared to Kroger; the staff at Publix consistently seem better trained and more polite. I have the Publix and Publix Pharmacy apps and find them useful and convenient. It's great having all my receipts in one place within the main app. For prescriptions, being able to pay ahead in the Pharmacy app makes the pickup process faster. Our go-to Publix store was previously the Atlantic Station location, but since that store closed in December 2025, we switched to Whole Foods Midtown. Along with missing the pharmacy, it was our place to get Silk Almond Creamer; Whole Foods stopped carrying it. This Publix at Chastain Square feels a bit older, and both the layout and parking lot can feel dense and crowded. However, that's typical for an "in-the-city" Publix.

I walked in behind some girl with a half-eaten Publix deli sandwich in her hand. She looked upset. She took it to a guy who maybe was a manager? He rolled his eyes at her but acknowledged something and she went to the deli. I wanted to ask what happened, but he angrily ran off. Same guy/ manager, later is with an elderly female customer who was asking him something and I suppose he walked away. She goes "excuse me! I was talking to you!" I again pass by these two and she goes "you know you have an attitude" and he responds "you have a nice day, ma'am". Then as I'm checking out, customer in front of me shoves my things back on the conveyor belt and knocks my juice I'm about to purchase over. Doesn't apologize. Doesn't even acknowledge it. When the cashier comes to my things to check out, she knocks over the milk as well. I guess it's normal to just toss jugs/bottles of fluid around here like they will always hold up. The entire store is filthy and there are indicators of a serious rat problem, which the store management has dealt with by moving everything up from the bottom shelves and putting rice and pasta in large plastic bins. In the picture you will see pork for sale at less than a dollar that is green. I have also seen moldy bacon for sale on the shelf. They are literally burning huge stalks of incense around the store to cover the bad smells, which are overwhelming in some spots. If you haven't been there, steer far clear. If you have been there and you liked it, don't go back. I have no idea why it hasn't been closed down. Like, I sent a complaint to the Georgia Dept. of Agriculture. It's that bad.

There were people stocking more things while I was there on a mid-Friday. The staff wasn't overly friendly, but they were around in case I had a question. There are cafe vendors and a dining area past the cashiers. They had Korean BBQ, hot dog on a stick, shave ice, & more. There's even a minimal area offering clothing and Korean skincare! For the kids (& the kid in you), there was an arcade including the Gacha games! Prices weren't outrageous and actually comparable to other international markets. Typically, when I'm shopping for fresh produce, I head to Dekalb Farmers Market, Trader Joe's, or Kroger, but what really drew me in this time was the Amazon Return section. Surprisingly, the prices weren't as steep as I expected, and honestly, I'm leaning toward convenience over a longer commute these days when it comes to getting fresh groceries. As I walked around, I was impressed by the store's layout and selection. I do have some questions about the value of certain items, especially considering their price points, but I think with time, I'll get more familiar with the brands and what they offer. Right now, I'm really focused on putting quality food in my body, and I'm looking forward to learning more about what this store has in terms of options. The store itself is very clean, modern, and my overall shopping experience, including checkout, was smooth. I also had to check out the famous Hot Bar--ended up grabbing a few things. While it was a bit pricey, it definitely added a fun touch to my day, and the convenience was worth it! Bought some pineapple and had to throw it out as it was already overripe (precut). No bananas. Red peppers were all wrinkled/bad-like ALL of the 30 on display. Very few meat options in the case. Fish looked old and dry in the case. Horrible smell between meat/seafood counters. Overheard a Mgr ask an employee why X item wasn't out and she just said "I'm not doing that." Turned her back on him and walked away. He laughed but was also at a loss. I was floored but not surprised given the state of the store. Bought a rotisserie chicken and it was super dry-fed it to my dogs. This location has always struggled with friendliness. Hammond Dr is polar opposite. Buckhead is now even worse. Half my bill I threw out or couldn't eat. These days the last thing we should have to accept is throwing out our overpriced groceries. Why would I go back? Bad produce, bad attitudes, bad selection, high prices and I get to be my own cashier.

My friend kept calling it a seafood dip, so I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for. I was genuinely impressed by how eager everyone was to help. Employees from multiple departments worked together to figure it out, and we eventually discovered it was a seafood salad thawing in the back. That level of customer service made a great impression. I've already been back since that visit. I've always shopped at DeKalb Farmers Market or Whole Foods, but Fresh Market has unique products, a smaller and more enjoyable shopping experience, and excellent service. Lately I've been focusing on eating healthier, so I don't mind paying a little more for higher quality food, especially when it's paired with such a great customer experience. I won't be coming back after what I witnessed today regarding food handling and sanitation…read more I ordered chicken wings, and the employee handling my order did not change gloves before preparing my food. Instead, she grabbed a pair of tongs that had been sitting on the counter with visible sauce residue from another food item still on them and used those same tongs to pick up my chicken wings. It was incredibly unsanitary. I have no idea how long those tongs had been sitting there, what foods they had previously been used for, or whether they had been cleaned. The employee herself seemed unsure which tongs to use, which only made the situation more concerning. I also observed another employee repeatedly handling food without changing gloves. He was in the back cutting and preparing meat, then helping customers, touching the scale, touchscreen, and other surfaces with the same gloves before returning to continue handling the meat. Gloves are supposed to prevent contamination, not transfer bacteria and residue between food, equipment, and customer-contact surfaces. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I've noticed these sanitation issues at this deli. I've seen similar practices on previous visits, and it appears to be an ongoing problem rather than a one-time mistake. For the prices customers are paying, basic food safety standards should be expected. Cross-contamination and improper glove use are not minor issues, especially in a department handling ready-to-eat foods. On a positive note, the fish market on the other side is consistently clean, professional, and appears to take sanitation seriously. The difference between the two departments is very noticeable. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and provides additional food safety training for staff. What I witnessed today was unacceptable and left me with very little confidence in the cleanliness and food handling practices of the deli.

My sandwiches have been missing key ingredients, and the portions of what is included are skimpy. I thought the first time was just a bad day, but after two more visits with the same issues--especially missing the greens that are supposed to be on the sandwich--I'm done. Paying $15 for a sandwich and a water shouldn't mean guessing what ingredients will show up. I won't be coming back.

The shop is your basic higher-end grocery store featuring all the basics in prepared food, cheeses, craft beer and of course gelato. They also have a lunch counter where you can order a sandwich, but not much space to sit and enjoy it (couple of tables on the sidewalk outside). I think this is a terrific store, especially for the locals who can walk a block or two to pick up the essentials. On this day I went directly to the small selection of King of Pops to my goto - the Thai Teal - delicious. Service is prompt and the staff will eagerly answer questions or direct you to what you are looking for (or even better, tell you your out of luck and maybe suggest an alternative). I didn't find any smug hipsters on staff but maybe I was lucky? In any case I've thoroughly enjoyed shopping here on the couple of occasions I've had the pleasure to do so.
