This Publix has everything I am looking for usually. The staff are friendly except Debbie at the coldcut sample stand! She was not friendly and she will deny it but I highly doubt I was treated the way she would treat someone she liked. I had gone up to the stand and asked what is it? She said, there's the sign. She also glared a couple times at me. Thanks, I was making small talk. She wanted to chat with her coworkers. I was going to just make a comment to customer service instead of posting but they were swamped today. Maybe a better experience next time! Deli team needs a class on customer service and should probably take the time to train their staff on their menu items. There's no reason that I should have to explain a menu item to the team. And if the team doesn't know their own menu then at the very least they should have a teachable spirit and impeccable customer service. But that is not the case at this particular Publix I came to order a sub the sandwich maker didn't know what the menu item was and then proceeded to argue with me over every ingredient I attempted to add. So I'm writing this review after just leaving Publix. I haven't even put the groceries up yet. This store is designed differently so it can take some time getting used to, but after your 3rd or 4th trip it becomes routine. The purpose of this review are the customers who frequent this store. The store is stocked, clean, has many product offerings, and I love the prepared food section, but the energy in the store has very strong, VERY STRONG undertones of racism. Some will read this and say, WTF, why is everything about race, and I will say to them, "You don't understand it". I'm more of a Kroger guy, and since I moved in, I frequent this store because I can get to it quickly with back roads. EVERYTIME I visit this store I feel like eyes are lurking on me. The residents who I assume live in the area as well have asked me 3x's since I moved in the area If I have put out of place items in an area.... I get stares, rolled eyes. I am not joking! Today a very small situation happened where I stopped to simply talk to a friend that called my name and a mother with her cart walked by us and gave the most disgusted look because she had to go around, as if we were causing trouble! I felt so nervous, starting sweating and hurried up and got out the damn store. I don't want to go to deep or off track, but this is why I cannot support this movement of Buckhead City. I'm 100% sure it comes from a very bad place! A piece of me feels it's unfair to leave a 1 star review due to customers, as that's out of their control, however this is for any minority, specifically black people that move in the area to be advised about this store, and to see this review. I had been a long time since I started visiting this location again. I have decided to make it part of my morning commute to work. Why? Because it's pretty easy to get to and get around in the store. This location is not designed like most locations. They are still kind of old school so that means things are placed in different areas. However they make up for it with their employees and products. Love this store. Everyone is helpful and friendly. You always see someone on the floor doing something to keep it nice and together. Never bumping into folks either. read more

So, I waver on frozen food picks. In one sense, they're convenient and you can get some even-healthy/sized-for-one picks if you pay attention. And I've been told frozen veggies can be better for you than fresh, depending on when the store(s) sell them and what's been done to the produce before freezing or stocking fresh. That being said, I've mostly limited myself to bags of spinach that I'll use part of then freeze, or the single-serving packs of corn. A lot of the "veggie mixes" have some kind of sauce and/or a LOT of sodium. But today, I decided to get a bag of Bird's Eye white rice with carrots, corn and peas; I sauteed some onion and mushrooms to throw into the finished dish and voila! YUM. This pkg will be a go-to for me from now on, as one package is good for two meals, easy, and it's tasty and simple to add whatever other veggies I have on hand once the rice pkg is cooked. Bird's Eye - bulls-eye! Yay! Publix has a great selection and I may just have to try others after this good experiment! read more

Okay, here's the scene. Store closes in 10 minutes, however, the seafood department closed over an hour ago. My daughter is suppose to be making shrimp cocktails for a party she having the following day. We go up to the customer service counter and ask the manager if he can call the Publix about another mile or so down the road and see if their seafood counter is still open. He does, but while, he's on hold, he asks, if there is an issue with the counter here. We reply, that its closed already. He promptly hangs up the phone, and pages someone within this store, within one or two minutes another man comes up to front the store, and ask why he's being paged. The manager explains that we want shrimp and instructs him to help us. Both the daughter and I are standing there just waiting for this guy to give attitude or something, but he looks at the two of us and says....how much shrimp you ladies need?? Really, they do it like this at Publix??? Seeing as how they were about to open the entire seafood department back up just for us, we told him we needed 3 pounds. I mean its shrimp, they aren't going to go to waste and we were planning on getting two pounds anyway. CELEBRITY SIGHTING. We see Ruben Studdard of American Idol fame exiting the store just as we are. No, he was not asking the store to re-open closed departments...leave that to the non-celebs like me. I've yet to see a bad Publix, although I was taken aback by the flyer warning employees that child care is not an acceptable excuse for rescheduling a promotion test at the last minute. I thought Publix tried to be woman-friendly, but I can see clearly that it's easier to get a promotion at Publix if you've got a wife. (And yes, I know that men, in families that include male parents, *should* care for children.) No, what really bugged me about this Publix is what it lacks, given all that it's got. A lot of Publix stores have a pegboard of Badia spices that contain, for a buck or so, enough of whatever spice you want to get you through a recipe. This one only has a few bottles of Badia spices, leaving you at the mercy of McCormick. $3.99 for ground coriander when I need a few teaspoons? Hell no. And really, what's the point of being open until 11pm if the seafood area is tumbleweed-empty an hour before closing time? We had shrimp on the shopping list, but we sure as hell don't have it on our refrigerator shelf. I was happy that the pharmacy was able to fill a highly regulated prescription within the 15 minutes before they closed (another go-home-early department, alas). Just don't expect the normal high standard of Publix services if you arrive after 9pm. They're only *mostly* open after nine. read more

I now drive to Chastain Sq to do my shopping and have moved my prescriptions there too! Homeless people posted up outside ALL THE TIME, if not outside, inside harassing shoppers! Restocking shelves at 5pm during high traffic times- every time I go in! I can't get down the isle much less up to the shelves to make my selections! read more

Publix stores are a great place to get all of your food. This one is a "smaller" city store versus the large one on Brookhaven. This one still has everything you need. Granted the store looks to be a little older than the other Publix stores in the area. Ok funny quirk, I think most stores get you to walk counter clockwise through it to get everything. Placed an order online for the deli. Three hours later @ 4 o'clock the order was not ready. No one was in the line when I got there and the two employees in the deli were talking to each other. When I inquired as to why my order was not ready 30 minutes after it was supposed to they said they had been busy. When I informed the store manager the deli manager attempted to get my order ready. My order clearly said sandwich cut and all the meat were thin shaved. People who walked up got their orders and walked out before I did. Worst public deli I've ever been to. Manager was apologetic but the employees are horrible. They clearly don't want to work. The food in Publix is expensive and yet we get this kind of service. They need to fire those two lazy employees who don't want to work in the deli and get this store up to standard. read more

Living in Buckhead I expect much more out of my local supermarket... Definitely time to update this location. Homeless people digging through the trash when you walk in is a unpleasant start to your shopping experience. The interior is completely dated when you walk in. We have one of the nicest wholefoods down the street, time to step your game up publix. I know working in the publix Deli is not the most glorious job in the world but come on John, try not to be so miserable. I asked for whole Philly cheese steak on white and before I can request Boarshead, John says he'll be right back and goes to cut the publix brand roast beef. When he comes back I ask him if it's Boarshead and he says yes... He asks me if all the toppings are ok and "I say yes, and can you also add jalapenos please?" He just awkwardly chuckled. As John is putting my Philly together he grabs two dirty sheets of paper the previous sandwich maker just made her buffalo chicken finger sub on... He then wraps my Philly minus the jalapenos that he did not put on in the dirty paper. When he hands me the sub it clearly has the publix brand meat price... Thank you John I'm really glad I decided to get some Deli meat while I was there too. At least I got the Boarshead meat I asked for this time. However, the girl slicing my meat dropped it and caught it between her apron and the counter and then continued to slice on a disgustingly filthy slicer... Clean your equipment before slicing new meat. Complete amateur hour in the outdated, customer service-lacking, buckhead publix. I think I'll drive out of my way to the Brookhaven location from now on to get my Deli fix. read more

I don't know why I keep coming to this dump. Listen, I LOVE Publix. The exceptional customer service is worth any detours I have to take to get to one. But this isn't the sunshine-and-salutations Publix you see the on commercials. No, this is Bizarro Publix: Where shopping is stress test. There are couple of really decent people here, but I'd say ~60% of the people I've interacted with have been awful. I've had the security guard tail me for ten minutes BEFORE closing, trying to pressure me to checkout (as if I wasn't going as fast as I can--this isn't the French Riviera. I'm not trying to SAVOR THE MOMENT). I know for a fact that Publix trains its employees on how to bag groceries, yet I still have people toss cartons of ice cream and milk jugs and jars of olives into the bags full of salad and tomatoes and bread. This place also has the worst produce of any grocery store I've ever been to. It's like the people in that department don't understand that rotting produce will only encourage surrounding produce to turn. They just throw fresh stuff on top of rotting stuff. I have actually seen guys stack trays of fresh berries on top of fuzzy ones, pile plump tomatoes on top of putrid ones. They seriously could not care less. I should mention, though, that when I pointed out that the fresh tomatoes were sitting on top of a pile of oozing red discs, someone at customer service apologized and notified the manager. The produce continues to be hit or miss, though, especially the tomatoes. I've wanted to rage about this Publix so many times, but what happened tonight is the kicker. When I was loading my groceries onto the checkout belt, I realized one of my cereal boxes was leaking. I notified the bagger and asked him to put the cereal in its own bag, on its side, to prevent more leaking, and he said okay. The man had a really heavy accent, so when I saw him drop the cereal, standing upright, in a bag with another box, I figured he must have had difficulty understanding what I was saying (not a big deal, just happens when you live in a melting pot). When he went to put the bag into my cart, I reached for it so I could separate the items so there wouldn't be cereal all over the place. That's when he snapped at me, saying that he did what I asked him to do, and then SNATCHED MY GROCERIES OUT OF MY HANDS. Are you freaking kidding me? I guess I was in shock, because I wasn't really able to process just how ridiculous this was until I got into my car. I don't think livid even touches it. I don't know how anyone could endorse the produce here, but maybe they're eating different stuff than I do (mostly berries, tomatoes, salad, squash, apples). And I should mention that I almost always shop at night (between 7pm-11pm), so I might just be interacting with a crappier shift of people. read more

It makes me really not mind paying a tad bit more for my groceries. The fact that this supermarket is within walking distance of my house also doesnt hurt. Whenever I have had an issue with food not being fresh (only 1 time), management gladly accepted it back, even when I brought it back like 2 weeks later b/c of travel/vacation. This publix is just fine - that's to say that I've been to farrr better Publix locations and better groceries in general. It gets the job done and the location is super convenient for those of us who live at apartments in the surrounding area on Peachtree Avenue. It's great for a quick stop on the way home from work to pick up a few items. On the downside, it's small and it probably hasn't been through a renovation in quite some time. The produce section could use some help - it's really not that impressive. Since fruits and veggies are the majority of what I buy when grocery shopping I tend to frequent elsewhere for those items (eg. Kroger, Trader Joe's) - if you're really looking for good produce at a fair price you should check out City Farmer's Market on Buford Highway. read more

Where shopping has always been a pleasure. I hadn't set foot in a Publix in eons, more or less because there have been none conveniently located. This Publix, or any Publix for that matter, sparks childhood memories. The same flooring, lighting, and impeccable cleanliness have survived into the 21st century. Like coming home. I think I've finally come to peace with the issues I had with this store. It's within walking distance of my house, so even though I might have preferred another location this one usually won because of its location. Fortunately for me the customer service at this store has greatly improved and now shopping really is a pleasure (per their slogan). The check out lines are usually short and they even seem to be staffing enough employees to bag my stuff (instead of having to do it myself). The pharmacy has been expanded and they are currently updating some of the paint and signage throughout the perimeter. This Publix is located in the heart of Buckhead, and is considerably larger than the smaller Publix stores located at West Paces and Peachtree Battle. As indicated by the name, the store is situated within "the Peach" shopping center which is always bustling with cars looking to go to Starbucks, Barnes and Noble, etc. The parking lot can get pretty crowded at peak times so just be aware. The Publix itself is a good size and has a great selection of produce, deli meats and cheeses, bakery items, wine, flowers, etc. If you buy a loaf of bread from the bakery then do not hesitate to ask them to slice it for you for free! The deli department also does a great job of allowing you to sample any meats or cheeses that you are purchasing. This Publix also holds cooking demonstrations with free samples on a frequent basis, and the food is always wonderful - check it out! This store does a great job with its specialty displays, and goes all out for holidays and sporting events, giving the store a fun/family vibe. All of the employees are very friendly and go out of their way to assist you should you have a question. There is a Redbox located in the front right entrance if you are looking to pick up a movie. There is also a Suntrust inside the store and an ATM where you can deposit checks and cash. This Publix has an Atlanta police officer patrolling the entrances at all times, which allows patrons to feel safe while they shop! read more

Publix generally has very clean stores and friendly staff, and this location is no exception. I prefer this location to the midtown Publix because it's larger with a greater variety of items. Nice produce, some organic foods, and a spacious deli. Always check the weekly ad because staple items like pasta, tomato sauce, and frozen vegetables are buy-one-get-one-free every couple weeks or so-- it's a great way to stock up and save money on things that don't spoil. read more

When Publix entered the Atlanta metro market a little over ten years ago (migrating north from Florida) they aggressively went after the stonghold that Kroger heald on the market. Other chains moved in as well (remember Harris Teeter?) and weren't as successful as Publix. Here's why I like Publix, and why they are doing so well: They offer excellent customer service. The check out folks, the deli counter help, and the management are nothing short of friendly, polite, and helpful. This is the sort of old fashioned service one would expect from a grocery store, because afterall your local grocery store is really a place most people visit two or more times a week. Publix also has a full service in store butcher shop, meaning they actually cut and prepare the meat in the store. Unlike Kroger where most meat comes in prepacked. Kroger also only stocks solution injected "always mosit & tender" pork, chicken and most of their beef. As a health minded consumer and chef I cannot stomach these sodium laden meat products. Publix meats are unprocessed and natural. Publix also has a very good fresh produce department, that includes many organic selections. I've heard some of my friends complain that Publix is more expensive than Kroger, but in all honesty I've compared them side by side and on most items they are competive. Perhaps the weakest section of Publix is the bakery. I cannot stomach the Crisco (trans-fats!) iced birthday cakes that everyone seems to buy (another dirty secret about the birthday cakes is the cake itself comes to the store pre-baked frozen), and the breads and rolls are not to my liking. Too commercial tasting and full of preservatives, and other chemicals. The Publix brand private label products are actualy good, and a nice way to save money. Also this Publix store is one of the busiest in atlanta, and they stock an extra assortmanet of higher end products to cater to the Buckhead neighborhood. The management here nicknamed this store the "Urban Gorilla." A busy grocery store means a litte hassle in the parking lot and check out lines, but it insures fresh product based on a constant turnover of stock. read more
