I recently visited because I was told they have masks. They are only allowing one person at a time in the store and ask that you keep six feet away from the door so that the person inside can exit. There were quite a few signs on the front door. When you enter you tell the person behind the counter what you would like to purchase and someone brings it to the register. The store is roped off so no one can go past the register. The person behind the register is wearing a mask as is everyone else working in the store. read more

This is an old school pharmacy, for sure. Totally 1970s look and feel. It's located on Moreland Ave, right next to Savage Pizza. There are 2-3 designated pharmacy parking spaces, as this lot is a pay lot on weekends, but pharmacy customers are free. The appearance makes one think it's a shady/dumpy place, but don't judge a book by its cover, despite the wall to wall carpeting you'll find inside! There are aisles upon aisles of your typical pharmacy finds and of course, the counter in the back with the drug dispensing pharmacists. I have been helped by all of the pharmacists and cashiers and all have been equally friendly and helpful. Their prices are comparable to any other pharmacy and I always choose this place if I need something from a pharmacy! Also....cash only under $5, cards accepted over $5! read more

Trying to support the little guy, I came in to fill a prescription and move it over from the CVS behemoth that I despise so much. So I'm greeted by a friendly cashier, make my way to the back, and am greeted once again. I place my prescription down on the counter and start shuffling through my wallet to get my insurance card. The pharmacist interrupts my search to inform me that they can't fill my prescription. They apparently "are having some issues with contracts" and I "should try back next month." What the whaaaat?! You're a pharmacy that can't fill prescriptions? I'm confused. So I walked out, frustrated and without meds, and made my way to Target where I waited nearly an hour and didn't support the local economy. Not awesome. Little 5 Points Pharmacy gets 3 stars for existing, but I just can't give it any higher when they can't fulfill the basic requirement of a pharmacy. I completely agree with the other reviewers -- I dread going to the pharmacist because the wait is always so long and the people are so miserable behind the counter, but going to the L5P pharm is a whole new experience. Ira was so friendly and kind and introduced himself right off the bat. He was joking and laughing with other folks shopping in the store. It did get weird for a minute when he advised both me and another customer simultaneously on how to handle our "mucus situation" (I guess we were both there for the same issue) but honestly I thought it was funny and I was tempted to high-five my fellow sufferer. I can't comment on whether the prices are similar to other pharmacies as I think it varies by prescription and your insurance, but the drugs I got were flat rate and cheap(ish). The last time I came in here to fill a prescription for an antibiotic, Ira gave me a nurse's-drug-guide level rundown of medication instruction, which, trust me, includes stuff most chain pharmacies don't include in their handouts. The L5P pharmacy has a delightful assortment of natural foods store-type supplements and snacks. They also have a bunch of obscure apothecary-type ingredients. Tincture of asafoetida? I am totally never going back to CVS/Walgreens again! I waited five minutes for my prescription and I was a new patron so they had to take my insurance and personal information. Their system was down so the pharmacist asked me how much my copay was and made me pay that amount and she told me that if it was different than what I said, she would give me a call. Would that happen at CVS/Walgreens? NEVER! If you want to support local business and stay away from the monster chains with no personal service, this should be your new pharmacy. read more

Why go to a local independent pharmacy? Because they are actually helpful and knowledgeable. Ira, the owner and pharmacist, is a very caring and thoughtful person. He's always gone the extra mile for me. He knows my family and always says hello and genuinely asks about our health. The store has been there for 20+ years, so it's an "institution" in this neighborhood. The feel is "old school" drug store, so don't except a bazillion offerings on everything. I know I'm it's unoriginal, but I echo the sentiment of other Yelpers--"I'm never going to CVS again!" I ended up here after standing in Sevananda for 15 minutes looking for a product with 2% pyrothione zinc for my face--no dice. I heard the guy tell someone else there was a pharmacy across the street, so I checked it out. Not only did they have DermaZinc soap, it was only $6.50 compared to the $8-12 I saw online. I looked around and saw they had more of each type of product than CVS, which usually only has the big, national brands. This is a true old-school neighborhood pharmacy, and the checkout guy said "we're more interested in serving the community than the bottom line." So many people asked if they could help me, but in a laid-back 'let us know if you need anything' kind of way. And they knew where everything was. Ira the pharmacist is a real mensch. When Atlanta was snowed in Jan 2010 and the entire city shut down, he slept in the store so he could open each day to help people. He has all the basic drugs, he carries exotic vaccinations for global travel (being next to the CDC and Carter Center that makes sense) he researchs his generics and only sells the best with good quality control. The woman reviewer, "Kathleen M," upset because her insurance contract wasn't in place ~ Hon, that's not the pharmacist's fault, that's your insurance company's fault. You also could have paid full price for your script then filed a claim for reimbursement so no, it wasn't a situation of a pharmacist who couldn't fill a script. Don't blame the pharmacy because you don't understand how business works. read more

This is what it means to be part of a community! This local business rocks (and has for a loooong time). Recently they had a fire at the business next door and the pharmacy was essentially closed down for major repairs for days. But Ira, the pharmacist, insisted that they fix and keep open the pharmacy portion. I first appreciated this on the first day after the fire when I needed my regular prescription filled and he was able to. Then my son got very sick the next day and I needed the antibiotic. The store had closed early for repairs, but when I walked up, Ira was out front talking with clean-up crews. When I approached him, he immediately knew who I was and knew my child's prescription had been called in that day. He snuck back in to his pharmacy and made up the antibiotic for me. He brought it out to me! What a relief! How many places can you go where they will do that for you? When they are closed! Due to a fire! That will always stick with me. read more

I have shopped there a couple of times, but it's not been ideal. The first time I went for Airborne but they don't carry it. The owner ( I think) sold me a product that was like Airborne but he said much better. But it cost a few dollars more and when I took it, it was a lot like Airborne. The most recent time, they couldn't fill my prescription because they don't carry the very popular medicine I needed. I had surgery last Friday and was given a pain med that didn't seem to help. The surgeon gave me a different prescription on Saturday which we drove to numerous pharmacies only to find out as they all started to close, no one had it in stock. On Sunday, we began calling every pharmacy we could find. After calling over 20 pharmacies, literally, we finally reached a pharmacy (Little 5 Points) who had the medication in stock! Needless to say, we were so frustrated as we couldn't believe that it was possible that none of the pharmacies in town had a routine pain med in stock, in addition to some pharmacies (Walmart & Wender Roberts) wouldn't even help us stating they cannot tell us if they have the medication via phone. However, not only did Little Five Points have the medication in stock when no one else did, their staff (I think her name was Eleanor) was so very patient and kind! Even though it was a half hour from Smyrna to Little 5 Points, I would rather drive to this pharmacy for future pharmacy refills based on this experience! read more

This is how a pharmacy should be. My mom insists on using a big chain pharmacy with a drive-through, and they screw up the many medications she and my dad take on an almost constant basis. I do not know how anyone could say a bad thing about this place, Ira or the other staff! I have had NOTHING but exceptional service each time I have gone. When most places treat you like dirt, Ira is a God send! He took the time to treat me like a person! My last visit my 3 year old was crabby since she had fallen asleep for all of 5 minutes and I had to wake her up to go in. Ira gave her a piece of candy from the store and kept trying to make her smile! It's a rarity to find compassionate people these days! To the point I got 2 phone calls, one thanking me for becoming a patron and the next was for my birthday!! Can you believe that?!? He also makes sure he has your medication when it's due, none of this waiting two weeks!
