I really like Trader Joe's in the San Antonio shopping plaza. The shopping is nice. It's close to the gym so I can pretend that I am going to the gym before I do my grocery shopping. However, it's small. I have been to bigger TJs in Menlo, Los Altos, and SF and have been wowed by an even bigger variety of products. Some products I used to wish we could have at the MV TJs, but I am over it since I have found the stuffed poblano peppers (in the freezer section). OMG - they are YUM! Plus, you can buy some low-fat Babybel cheese (nice that they sell the low fat version even if the cheese itself is a just a tad over-processed. just a tad) and stuff that cheese in there to make a relatively healthy low-fat meal. Plus, I really like the check out people at this TJs (although there is a cool guy at the Los Altos TJs who has bad allergies and I can't remember his name). Bob is my fave. The meat is okay. I like the kosher stuff because it seems healthier. I am not really sure though. But I only get the turkey. I have had a coupla not so good run-ins with the TJ ground beef. Now it's time for some math: 5 stars for check out people + 5 stars for wine prices (did I mention the alcohol? it's cheap and there is a variety of good stuff!) + 4 stars for salad choices - 4 stars for sketchy meat in the package and the salad choices = 4 stars read more

I don't know what I'd do without my TJ's. They shop from local growers and producers and pass the savings right into my pocket....so I can do laundry at that expensive fluff and fold place out on El Camino, LOL! No, Seriously, go in there during breakfast time. They have someone constantly cooking SOMETHING up back there and it's usually made from two or three things that you can pick up RIGHT THERE too. The cost of a dozen eggs hasnever gone over .99 cents and the frozen godds are a great buy! ...not to mention the two buck chuck - I cook with it and it serves me well. Trader Joe's is one of the happiest places on the Peninsula. Every time I go here, everyone from the staff to the customers are all smiles. They have a great array of frozen and preserved food with an ethnic flair. Their liquor and wine is cheaper than some national chain specially liquor stores. They have a wide selection of baked goods and they even have fresh meats. I generally find that TJs has less variety in produce and fresh meats than a regular grocery store, but for alcohol and snacks (chips and cookies), they can't be beat. I particularly love their hand-made whole wheat-corn tortillas. They are kind of like pre-made chapatis. I agree with the comments that this location is very crowded. I hope that the new location in Palo Alto will help this problem. I prefer the one in Menlo Park. Truth be told. read more

I asked someone working in trader joes for ghiradelli baking chocolate, he told me to buy the trader joes' semisweet chocolate instead and said this is same as ghiradelli ,it just has our name on it. I bought it since I thought he might be telling the truth. But while baking the cake I realised it wasnt same. First this chocolate was with almonds and it was much bitter than what I was looking for. I am not buying any baking stuff from this store now onwards. read more

Staff in this TJ's is very knowledgeable, kind and serviceful. They seem to have a beautiful relationship amongst each other which passes on to customers. Even if I enter with a sour face, I usually leave with a smile because of a clerk or other employee who went out of their way to make a connection with me. I love this place. read more

I've always loved Trader Joe's, ever since I started shopping at the ones in the Boston area. They have great food, a good selection, friendly staff, and low prices (especially given that it's mostly organic). This one follows suit. Between TJ's and Whole Foods, there's no reason to shop at the disgusting Safeway on California Street any more. The only downside of this one is its location. The parking lot tends to be somewhat on the insane side. Given the behavioral problems of so many Californian drivers, that just adds to the stress of people not following the arrows or parking signs in the lot. It's usually safer to not actually park in the TJ lot and walk a little ways. read more

Trader Joe's should just keep doing what it's doing. It's working very well for me! Between this place and a trip to the Milk Pail, I get my weekly groceries covered at a very reasonable price and lots of a 'foodie' wants in her fridge. Love the flowers they sell especially this time of the year. Also, it's the only spot where I can easily find non-alcoholic wine when I need it. Finally, they have the most interesting selections of gourmet food items at a very reasonable price. Oh, and lately, I got hooked on their soaps. That lavendar soap bar is a must have! Consistently friendly and helpful and knowledge staff, delicious packaged foods (and wow, the desserts!), fab selection of high quality meats and cheeses, no obnoxious "Attention Safeway Shoppers!" radio, and great prices! And come on, people, the parking lot is not THAT bad. Park on the perimeter and actually *walk* 3 minutes and you'll be fine, I promise. Only downsides: - Fruit and veggies tend to be unspectacular in quality or price. - Can be hard to find things sometimes. - This is a 10 minute drive from my place, whereas the evil Safeway is a 5 minute *walk* away :(. - The "thai" foods in a box are beyond disgusting. Seriously. Does anyone actually like those horrid bad-smelling mixtures?! * * * But on the whole, Trader Joe's rocks. So thankful to have one relatively nearby (even if my chocolate-filled arteries are less-glad). read more

After quite a few other failed stores at this location.... finally TJ's move in and it works.... parking sucks just like the whole rest of the complex.... and even more so now that TJs is there revitalizing it. This one seems to be on par with the rest of the TJ's that we've gone to. read more

I love love love TJs! The food is really cheap, everyone who works there is so nice and friendly, and the store is big enough to provide variety (always lots of new things to try!) without being overwhelming. Somehow I always spend just as long here as I do at Safeway... except at Safeway I'm roaming the aisles feeling lost and overwhelmed, and at TJs I'm perusing the pre-made food section, trying to decide between mochi icecream, vegetarian lasagna, or channa masala! Oh, such fun choices to make! The produce here is not the best (although it is reasonably priced), and I usually just get things like squash or bananas. Fortunately, Milk Pail is in the same plaza so I can go there to get cheapppp/fresh/local produce. Best of both worlds. Hooray! P.S. Trader Joe's is such a great store. I was first introduced to it in Long Beach by my boyfriend after moving to CA from NY. Ever since then I make an effort to shop there as often as I can. This Trader Joe's is a good one. The staff is very friendly and some are super outgoing. It's always a treat when they strike up a conversation during check out. 99% of the time they have what I am looking for. I really love their pre-packaged butternut squash, it makes cooking up the soup super easy and it tastes soo good. LOVE! read more

I love Trader Joe's. I work at a startup, and it's convenient to shop at TJ's, because there are decent pre-made meals that I provide for my coworkers for lunch. As for what I cook for home, I like using Trader Joe's basic ingredients in my kitchen - flour, yeast, sugar, eggs, milk, organic chicken, almond milk, and LOTS of quality frozen fruits and vegetables. I never go without frozen edamame or frozen mangoes in my freezer. -1 star because the crowded aisles make shopping really stressful and irritating. read more

As Trader Joe's rightly says, true value is high quality @ reasonable prices. This is a great complement to Milk-pail. Great both for regular stuff [eggs, veggies etc..] and also for some exotic Trader Joes only stuff vegan friendly with a lot of soy produce to choose from. I'm told they offer free coffee sometimes. Oh - and they have this bestselling Merlot [or was it a different wine?] for 2$. People are super friendly. I love this place! read more

I love the coffee, and food samples they do. I don't know why, Costco's are always more extravagant, but I still like the Trader Joe's samples. Other than that there are 4 other food stores within 1/8 of a mile. Safeway, Whole Foods, The Milk Pail, Sprouts. Walmart and target are there also. We like the fruit, its not as expensive as whole foods, and better quality than safeway. The selection is its only real failing. read more

Going to be a day or two, before the avocados are ripe. Customer service, really is over the top here. As, soon as they saw Her Ladyship's distress, with the avocados, someone was there, we still had to get some avo's at Milk Pail, but it's cool, when someone shows up to help, when you, don't ask? Also, found a naked crust. Too cool, build your own pizzza. "She who MUST BE obeyed," is always remarking of the pizza, in Italy. She is half Italian, has relatives in Northern Italy. For a Trader Joe's, this one is pretty small. Plus, since they share a parking lot with a Walmart & a 24 hour fitness, parking can sometimes be a... challenge. Other than that, it's the same great selections as you'll see at other Trader Joe's. Not as much, always, because it is a smaller store (or at least feels like one). If I'm in the area, and it's more convenient, I'll come here. Otherwise I shop at the Sunnyvale store. read more

I like this Trader Joe's and giving it 4 Stars. However, I'm not fond of one of the stocking clerk, who is tall and Caucasian, cuts me off, just to place a box on the floor and he didn't care that I stood there waiting for him to be done. It wouldn't be an issue, if he cared, but he didn't. I made a comment to myself and he gave me sarcasm for being upset. I don't believe that he should continue his employment there if he takes his anger or bad day on his customers. However, my register clerk was super awesome and friendly. But one bad seed can ruin a whole store and that was the guy with the bad attitude. And it's a shocker that I've gotten one, because everyone is always super nice at Trader Joe's. read more

I went in just to get tomato sauce and smoked mozzarella....then you know how it goes got to get the moka yogurt, miso soup, naan... I had not taken a basket and dropped an item on the floor, picked it up thinking ok time to go my hands are full. I've been visiting this location for two years. It's usually well-stocked, clean, and the employees are friendly. It's also right next to Milk Pail for cheap produce, and Wal-Mart for that Cinnamon Toast Crunch you really want but can't get at Trader Joe's. Parking can be tricky but I usually find a spot within a minute or two. This is really a great option in an area dominated by the Safeway monopoly (with its overpriced items). read more

Everyone here is really friendly. They are always looking for ways to help you find stuff and make the atmosphere really fun. My only complaint is that over the past few years, they have reorganized the store several times, so things are sometimes not where they were a week or so earlier. I'm new into the area and Trader Joe's is my favorite store. I love that they have a good amount of product even if it's not that big. Prices are of course, very affordable ( yay I can afford to be healthy!), the staff's very nice/great customer service, and the free samples section doesn't hurt :P The only con I would say is that it's not really a *visible* store, AKA you'd have to loop into the San Antonio Shopping Center and it's sort of tucked away. read more

This review only compares Trader Joe's to other food stores, not to other Trader Joe's, because this is the only TJ's I've ever been to. I am absolutely delighted with the store, because it finally offers healthy, natural, and organic foods at prices a college student can afford. Many items are even cheaper than their average-brand counterparts. I can trust that the TJ's store-brand items are wholesome and natural. Furthermore, the store has more character than any other - love the island-like decor, the liveliness of the employees, and the great classic rock shopping music. Once, when the one tall, bald cashier asked if I found everything okay, I politely told him that I didn't find the garden burgers near the other burgers. He quickly took the initiative to jog over to the frozen vegetables aisle and point them out to me, despite me insisting it wasn't a big deal, especially since there were others in line. But he did this very quickly and nobody seemed to mind the extra few seconds of wait. Pros: Great prices, stocks items you would expect to find at a health-food store Cons: Like others have said, it is on the small side. The parking lot always seems to be crowded, but I've never had trouble finding one space. The aisles are kinda cramped, as well as the checkout lines, but it really doesn't bother me. read more

Always a favorite for exclusive items and great deals, I love shopping here. Home of the two buck Chuck! This is where I seen it even before people started talking about this cheap wine. There isn't really a good time of the day to go and they're always busy especially weekends. But if you can look past the horrendous lines and people congregating around the sampling bar, then you can definitely find something new and unique to eat. I remember in 1993 when the price of a mango smoothie was 89 cents and now it's almost $3 each. This was when TJs was not as popular as now. They've always carried organic items, fresh vegetables and fruits, frozen foods, dry nuts and cereals, and dairy items. I usually go to TJs to buy packaged nuts and dried fruit trail mixes for work and oatmeal. Did you know the oatmeal is the same as the one at Whole Foods for 20 cents less but just in different packaging? The outer box is different, but the inner packets are exactly the same! I mostly go to TJs when I go to Walmart because they're in the same shopping center. The parking lots are always full so be prepared to be patient. Whole Foods is by itself with underground parking so it speaks for itself if I'm buying oatmeal and doggie biscuits. Overall, this Trader Joe's is an old favorite of mine and I hope everyone would make time to visit one of their locations one day. Their employees are happy and are willing to bend over backwards and make sure you find what you need. Their uniforms consist of Hawaiian shirts and shorts or jeans, although other locations are more relaxed. I love this place and I know you will too! read more
