I love Trader Joe's. I can spend time casually looking at products that I can't get in Canada. I tend to come to Trader Joe's to get items that I can enjoy in my hotel room when I grow tired of the same breakfast items offered or need a snack. It also allows me to get some lunch items for when I'm working in my hotel room and may not have a chance to fetch lunch. I had oddly never been to this store in Bloomington until recently. It was roughly fifteen minutes by car from the hotel where I was staying. There was plenty of parking at around 7:30 pm on a Monday night. I had 1.5 hours of shopping left before the store closed, so I made the best of it. I recently learned about its flavoured sparkling water. It's so good. I've only had the raspberry. I do need to branch out and try other flavours, but I love the raspberry so much that I can't part without getting a bottle. If I could bring back succulents, I would. The selection at this store is awesome, as are the roses and other plants. I find that lemons are much cheaper here than at Hy-Vee. Same goes with celery juice compared to what you'd pay at Target. I also like getting roasted seaweed. So addictive! My usual staple is getting potstickers. Both the chicken and pork are authentic. They also heat up nicely in the microwave. I did branch out and got new items. The mushroom ravioli with sauce was excellent. I also enjoyed a bag of freeze-dried strawberries, which makes me feel like I'm an astronaut wannabe. I had an efficient older man at the cashout. He was meticulous packing everything into a paper bag. His skills were impressive. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was good. I thanked him and left with my goodies. I need to remember to drop by this location more often. I typically visit the Eagan and Rochester stores, depending on what I'm doing. This one was great. I need to add this one to my store rotation. (63)

Trader Joe's is my favorite local grocery store, and Bloomington isn't my usual location, but I've been there several times and really like their store. There's a big parking lot in the front, so even when it gets crazy busy as Bloomington usually does, I've never had an issue parking there. Their goods here are always so fresh and I swear I pick up something new each time I visit. I always refer to the Fearless Flyer each month to see what products they roll out, and they never disappoint. Some of my must-haves at Trader Joe's are their ginger turmeric tea, lamb vindaloo, broccolini, beautiful flowers and succulents, tortillas, and pasta imported straight from Italy. The one thing about this Trader Joe's is that the items I want are sometimes out of stock. It seems to happen more frequently here than when I visit other TJ's. It may just because Bloomington has so many people coming and going all the time, and that's understandable given where this store is located.

When I walked in it seemed like a very regular day. They did have 3 sample stands around the store but were a bit lackluster overall, nothing special. I did ask a staff about it and worked my way up to management - who basically said what they have is all they are doing for the event - due to staff call outs. Essentially there was no event taking place. I did browse around a bit and ended up grabbing a few items. Seemed like they had great deals and some items you can't really get at other stores. They sell baba's hummus, which I love. The produce looked good and they generally had a lot to offer as a smaller grocery store. I do like that they mostly group items together so you can see all options in one place, like gluten free crackers and next to regular crackers. Same with some dairy free options for other items. They have a ton of parking and if you park underground in the ramp they have a cart ramp to get your items down easier.

Honestly it felt like a slightly more affordable Lunds- same kind of set up and not overly huge like a Cub or Hyvee. While we didn't interact with any employees (self check out) I noticed there were a lot of them. I'll definitely be back when I have more time and I'm actually looking to buy groceries. I could see this becoming a regular stop on the way home if our grocery delivery forgot something. I recommend checking it out and if you have time stop and eat in the cafe- that's what will get you in the door! I ordinarily shop at my neighborhood Kowalski's at 54 th and Lyndale Avenue South which used to be Red Owl (are you old enough to remember Red Owl?). My neighborhood Kowalski's is small (intimate when you are trying to pass someone in a lane), dark, and sometimes stock is limited. The Kowalski's at Southdale is overwhelming. It is large, well lighted and well stocked. I felt like a refugee from a third world country. We decided to pick up lunch. In addition to Kowalski's superb soups they had a pho/ramen bar. I was dubious as I love pho at Vietnamese restaurants but this wasn't bad definitely tasted like pho. There were many other choices for prepared food to take out. We bought a few things and as is typical of Kowalski's the staff were friendly and helpful. There is parking at the entrance and they will carry your purchases to your car.
