As a frequent patron of Trader Joe's, I always enjoy stopping in. One of my favorite things about the store is the selection of flowers and plants. I try to grab one almost every time I visit. The prices are hard to beat, and the seasonal items are always fun to browse. I also love the variety of frozen foods. They make great options for quick lunches or easy dinners when I don't feel like cooking. The produce section is consistently fresh and has become part of our weekly staples that we always keep on hand. The employees are another highlight. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and genuinely seems happy to assist. I can't say enough good things about Trader Joe'. it's truly a store I enjoy visiting every time. It's been a couple weeks, time for a trip to Trader Joe's. Wow they've expanded by taking over the pet store that was next door. The entrance has moved lots of windows very open the existing wall was removed store is 1/3 larger now. We came for some TJ pizza dough, chocolate covered espresso beans, triple ginger snaps we have a few favors here. The store was loaded with employees all were busy, everyone was excited about the new addition and in a great mood as always. We'll check back in another week to see the finish product, but this addition is going to be very nice. read more

This place is my go to for my coffee creamer and flowers. You can literally buy flowers and put them together for over half the price some flower stores charge. They have a wide selection of flowers. Service is good, and the place is ok size for what they offer. Parking lot can get crowded at times. read more

Oh boy today was a definite Hit for me at Trader Joes! I've mentioned in a previous review that I've felt out of place in this little grocery store but I refuse to give up on it and continue to go. Thank goodness I did because I found a few things that are destined to become faves in our household. First was the chicken breakfast sausage patties. These were absolutely delicious and the whole family agreed! Next was the cookie butter that I've been told was devine but always forgot to grab a jar. I also got the pretzel sticks to dip in it and that was such a great choice. Also, I got the Garlic and Asiago dip....amazing! They paired perfectly with the blue corn tortilla chips! read more

I still really do love Trader Joe's. I try to come here once a month. But more and more I am reading that there are sea oils in a lot of their items. The store is cheaper than other stores so this is why it brings me back. But I'm finding that I'm purchasing less and less things. It's good for the produce. But I don't really buy meat here. The frozen section is hit or miss with the seed oils. I stopped buying chips here. I stopped buying cereals here. I still buy dairy here. But they don't have any raw milk or raw cheeses. I still have to go to multiple stores after shopping here. And to be honest, I would go to Trader Joe's more if there was one closer to Panama. Or even in the downtown area. As a child there was one Trader Joe's. And now that I'm 54 years old, they're still only one Trader Joe's in Bakersfield. I'm wondering why they have not opened another one more location. read more

My daughter is a regular here so when I was able to tag along this past Monday I did. I had never been here before so maybe my expectations were high because of all the things i had heard of this place. When I first walked in it reminded me of a film set. Little store with maybe 6 aisles. I will admit the flower section by the front door is beautiful. It was so crowded when we went, people and carts were bumper to bumper. I noticed there were a lot of workers as well and they were stocking which made it a mission to maneuver through the store. Also when my daughter was getting her fruit, the lady who was putting the strawberries away just went in front of my daughter to keep stocking and didn't say excuse me or anything. Only one staff member, a nice man asked us if he could help us with anything. I did get a baguette which was pretty good and I bought two of their dog treats. Coming here made me appreciate my Walmart + (unlimited free deliveries to my house) and my curbside pickup at Sam's club. Of course my daughter still loves Trader Joe's and perhaps I'd return but maybe when they first open! read more

Trader Joe's is the consummate "specialty" store - by that I mean they sell very unique items typically not found in ANY grocery store I have ever been in. And I have been in every grocery store in Bakersfield, since I was born here!!! Albertson's/Vons, Superior Market, Vallarta, etc. NONE of the items sold at Trader Joe's is available in ANY "grocery" store mentioned. NONE...simply because every item sold (just about) bears the Trader Joe's label - a symbol of unique uncompromised, quality, value, and deliciousness! If Trader Joe's moved to the vacant CVS down the way in that bigger space, just imagine the volume of new customers that would visit Albertson's after shopping at Trader Joe's!! ...To pick up some of their incredible fresh jumbo shrimp (or other common groceries) from their seafood case! Wow! Talk about a win-win for both stores!!!! Hey you two stores...think about that idea! The parking lot here is still my arch-nemesis. So I try to send my partner whenever possible. Recently, he was occupied so I needed to make the trip on my own. Careful if you slip and fall they have brutal Insurance Agents. I fell due to a Matt in the deli area. I got severe injuries. They treated me badly. I had many witnesses too! They offered a little bit of money basically said I'm exaggerating. I have MRI's and X-rays etc... I am warning you get an Attorney or you will end up with permanent injuries like me. I have shopped at Trader Joe's for over 15 years. The quality of food has deteriorated considerably. I used to purchase smoked salmon there for years and it was excellent. I recently purchased smoked salmon and it had a nasty taste and after taste. I also purchased blueberries and they were sour. In future I will have to purchase blueberries and smoked salmon from other places such as Costco and Albertsons. I also purchased other items that I had to return. Trader Joe's took pride in the products they sell. Don't assume the food you buy there will be good quality. read more

As many spots of the Trader Joe as I have been to over the long years (and Trader Joe is my happy place, like Joshua Rush) this was my least favourite location. The store has a small, narrow footprint with compressed aisles. Rather than anyone keeping it moving, the Bakersfieldonians (what do you all call yourself, far north LA-ers?) everyone just posted up in the aisle so you could not even attempt to get around them. I had to go four aisles over to find a break in the aisle enough to get to the register after I finished my brief and unsatisfying jaunt through the pre-made salad portion of the store. Compared to my home store and in places I more frequently travel than here, the pre-made salad section was extremely limited and sad. There was in fact only one option, since the only other option was citrus based and I am allergic to that. Anywhere else in the country I have been there are at least three standard non-citrus options, plus even some semi-local concoctions apart from the standard options, and then the citrus ones I disregard since they are not for me. Here you get basically the worst of both worlds. Limited options and crowds. Oh boy, it sounds like as much fun as a ride at Disney World!!! Since I was in town on bidness I confirmed with the locals that they did not have a Whole Foods in this town, and I already know they did not have an Erewhon. So this is better than nothing, but only barely so. The Trader Joe in general is still my happy place, but this specific location sure ain't. read more

Update 10/05/2020 Always have a great experience here. Even when I can't find certain items the staffs always recommend some good alternatives. I've been to larger Trader Joe's in the San Diego area, but this one and the one in La Meas, CA are my 2 favs!!!!! Never had a bad experience here alone or with my family. Is Trader Joe's my favorite place in all of Bakersfield? Probably. Am I in here weekly? Definitely! I consistently find everything I need (and lots of fun things I don't!), plus the prices are unmatched. Forget Sprouts. And who needs Whole Foods? TJ's will always have my heart. I love their pasture-raised eggs, and the Grassfed organic milk. Really high quality items. Lots of organic, healthy choices too. I recently stopped by this Trader Joe's with my cousin to pick up some of my favorite in-season products, such as blood oranges, Meyer lemons, Persian cucumbers, etc. Not only was the store clean and well-stocked, but I noticed some certain cult favorites that I have not yet been able to find in the Sacramento area, such as pizza bread cheese. Believe it or not, this was my cousin's first time ever shopping at Trader Joe's. The cashier had no trouble believing this. "I didn't know about this place either until I saw that they were hiring," she said. I wasn't shocked by this, either, knowing that Trader Joe's is not yet as popular in the desert as it is in most of California. The closest one to my sister's house (in Apple Valley) is still about an hour away (in Ontario). Obviously, I was more than happy to show my cousin around the store, and to point out all of my favorite products. I bought one of my favorite guilty pleasure foods, a pizza mac and cheese, just to show her how good it was, and she ended up getting some for herself and her kids as well. Spacious, clean, and organized store. This was my first time in Bakersfield. The cashier helping me made me feel welcomed and told me about a popular Italian restaurant to try out while in town! Another employee helped me find what I was looking for and even grabbed the amount I needed so that I wouldn't have to bend down! The set up they have is different and unlike the LA stores, this one didn't seem too loud or crowded, which was nice. Was able to get in and out of the store quickly with what I needed! Too be clear, this isn't about the food but the lay out and organization of this location! This location is ROUGH, the flow of food types and how they are spaced on shelving is awful compared to every other Trader Joes I've ever been in (and I've been in a lot). The merchandising stinks, worst I've seen. Typically a trader joes flows pretty well, flowers, produce, cold and dry, into breakfast, and on and on. this store is upside down and backwards and how they stock is awful, somethings are single facing, some things are 3 facing. You walk down the frozen aisle and the same shrimp is in 3 spots.... WHY? Endcaps rarely get changed The store "captain" which is the store manager clearly does not take pride in his store, and that affects his "mates" that's the assistant managers. My family loves the frozen Mandarin Orange Chicken from Trader Joe's. I serve it at least once a month. Over the past few months, I've noticed the chicken pieces are getting smaller - some of them could be described as "crumbs". About a few months ago, the price went up $1 a package! This week, I bought my usual 3 packages, and as I opened each one to place on a cookie sheet, I noticed there was a noticeable difference of how much is now in each package. We were in Bakersfield running some important errands today. While we were near a Trader Joe's we stopped in for a few items. I needed to locate a specific item for a coworker (she and I will be at a work event and she doesn't live on the west coast). A wonderful store employee assisted me and I am ashamed that I missed getting her name. She even checked another store that is actually closer to my home and confirmed they have stock of the item I need. I cannot express my gratitude for her help and information. Well, if you don't already know it--this is the best Trader Joe's in Bakersfield! You know how I know that? ---It's the Only Trader Joe's in Bakersfield! I was in town for the day from Los Angeles on my own and stopped in here to grab a sandwich for dinner before hitting the road back to LA. I was so glad to see that they had a Trader Joe's here and that they stocked my favorite item: The Tuna Wrap! If you like or love Tuna--no one does it better than TJ's wrap. (Now, it's going to be all sold out next time I am here--but that is my job to inform people about good food even it causes me to starve.) I shop at TJ's weekly in Santa Monica--they keep me alive--and I will tell you that Santa Monica people love the Tuna Wrap because it's sold out half the time and the store has 8 rows of it! This TJ has easy free parking and is located in a nice shopping center next to Starbucks (get the Nitro Brew--best cold coffee) and CVS--(where I shop regularly because they sent me coupons and extra bucks) and across from the Hyatt Hotel--my favorite place to stay when traveling for business. TJ really adds value to the area and a hotel stay. This is just a great area. Also across the street is Chevron--the best gas you can buy for your vehicle. When checking out I learned from the checkout woman that TJ has been in Bakersfield for 23 years?! and that it was TJ's 14th store they ever opened. How about that? read more

I can spend an hour here easily just walking the aisles. The staff is always so helpful and the cashiers keep the line moving. It is a small store, but I can usually find my favorites and new products. I came in with my husband on Friday night to restock our freezer. We got the chicken gyoza and cilantro chicken mini wontons. They are perfect in soups or with curry. I wanted to try the soup dumplings and was lucky to spot the last two boxes. We couldnt forget about dessert so we grabbed a box that has 3 varieties of cake bites. I did spot, a new to me, salmon seasoning. I decided to pick up a ranch seasoning for potatoes. We also picked up some lambic beer, truffles, and other sweets as gifts. My husband treated himself to some boozy egg nog. He loved it! While the set up of the stores are always so organized, there is always polite staff there to help if I need assistance looking for a product. I love this store! This is definitely my go to market. Some of my favorite items are: soyrizo, mini Brie cheese, the package of trekk mix with chocolate & cashews, frozen brown rice, shu mei, enchilada sauce...the best! Taco seasoning, wine and more wine! Seriously...you can't go wrong with any of these items! My year round item is the beautiful orchids! They are definitely always blooming in my home. There are so many things that I love about Trader Joe's... I tried to add these suggestions to my last review but was notified I exceeded the max word count DOH! My favorite thing I've had recently is the portobello mushroom truffle ravioli... (I was trying to duplicate the most wonderful appetizer they serve at Little Italy, my favorite go to romantic place for a dinner in Bako ). I bought two packages of the ravioli, and made a simple Mario Battali butter and sage sauce to top the ravioli . It was sooo easy and delicious, and my friend loved it too! The next day, when heating up the leftovers, I added some of the packaged fresh organic baby spinach. The butter sage sauce was delicious on the spinach... There is something about adding vegetables to an otherwise decadent dish which makes one feel a little less guilty, as if adding the veggies somehow subtracts calories. Snacks: My friend turned me on to the the rosemary marcona almonds, and I served those with some of the TJ sliced assorted meats (salami, prosciutto), and truffle cheese and it was a huge hit. Tonight I made a pizza myself with the cauliflower Pizza crust - it was so delicious! It's easy- you can get all the ingredients pre - chopped, cut, made, peeled... of course it's not as quick as ordering g a pizza to pick up, but it's just as delicious! I took some of the pre-chopped onion that they have there, put that in a pan with some peeled garlic cloves and grilled that. I added mushrooms after draining the excess water, and mixed all of that with the wonderful bruschetta sauce (olive oil, basil garlic and tomatoes)they have at TJ's. (I discovered this sauce at a friend's party, where she served it with some crusty Italian bread. I thought she had made it fresh. Genius). I spooned this "sauce" on the cauliflower crust, and added fresh basil and sage. I drizzled some of the lower in fat mozzarella TJs sells, and broiled The pizza until the cheese was bubbly and slightly browned... It was super delicious, and not as heavy as regular pizza. I think it's helpful to make the crust as the instructions direct on the box but also brown it a bit under the broiler to get it crispy; doing so will prevent you from getting a soggy crust if you weigh it down with a lot of fresh veggies and herbs as I did. Finally another easy super delicious easy thing to make is deviled eggs. TJs makes it easy. TJs has hard boiled eggs- and that saves a lot of time. I used a recipe my friend got from the cooking channel for some deviled eggs she served at a holiday party last year- it merely involves mixing some sour cream to the yolks and topping the simple mixture with bacon bits and chives. TJs has partially cooked bacon which you easily finishing cooking in the microwave until you get the desired crispiness... sooo easy! read more
