Smart and Final and Costco are on our shopping stops today. S&F looked great as we entered. Produce department was brimming with fresh healthy looking produce. All the aisles in the store were fully stocked dairy box, frozen food area, and the meat department also looked great. We came for First Street jalapeños, and First Street Manzanilla Olives with pimentos, Smart and final is the only store I'm aware of that offers them in large gallon jars. I make holiday cheeseballs as gifts and Smart and Final for years has always stocked the large jars at a decent price. Today was no different they had just what we needed. I ordered two bottles of honey from Smart & Final, and both arrived quickly ( +4 stars*) BUT completely crystallized ( -3 stars*) It was obvious from the look of them, but whoever packed my order didn't seem to notice--or care. I was really disappointed because Smart & Final used to be one of my go-to spots for last-minute deliveries. Unfortunately, they let me down right when I needed them most--I was in need for my farmers market kiosk, i was running for 3 more hours. They are usually on point.Looks like all good things really do come to an end definitely requested a refund which can quicky (+1 star) Final (2 stars×) beause even though they did deliver quickly and they refunded quickly.They completely experience.I'm going back to another delivery spot.Maybe 2026would be different. read more

Walked into the store to see that the store looks similar to Costco. It has many different items that Costco doesn't carry. The best of all is that you do not need a membership. Not sure how the prices compare to Costco. Just came here to pick up an item for my daughters class. I came here to buy a 24 count of popcorn and when i picked up the huge bag, it consisted big bags of popcorn. Never see anything like this before. I often forget about this store but always sure to visit when I'm in the area. The ambiance is welcoming, always clean and the staff has always been willing to help. The store may seem small, but it is packed just like any other grocery store. There is a large selection of fresh produce, beer and wine, coffee, you can also find larger bulk items. Best of all, you do not need to join a club or have a membership to get some good deals on my last visit, New Year's Eve, I was particularly delighted to have been helped by a friendly, funny, outgoing, cashier that put a smile on my face! read more

This is our "neighborhood market" and we seldom shop for groceries anywhere else. The people who work there, from management to the workers stocking shelves (this gets confusing because the managers pitch in wherever needed - often stocking shelves!) are invariably friendly and kind. Like all the stores these days, Smart 'n Final does sometimes struggle to maintain their full inventory, but if you tell a manager about an item you really want, that they don't have, they will work very hard to get it for you. We love the new Gatorlyte -- there's nothing better for rehydration, but it can be very hard to find. My son mentioned this to someone at Smart 'n Final and the next week Gatorlyte was on the shelf! And one last thing - this store stocks the hard-to-find bunny veggies. We have a couple of bunnies we love and shopping at Smart 'n Final ensures that Mr. Nibbles and Daisy get the variety and quality of the food they need to be healthy and live long lives. We stopped in here for a couple of cases of water. Looking around, I noted this is not a 'full service" style grocery store. It has the basics. Lots of them. The shelves are metal and basic. But, the prices are great. Every employee that we encountered was super friendly and hard working. Our cashier had a lull in customers after we checked out and within seconds, he was outside right behind us collecting carts in the lot. I would not necessarily make this my regular grocer but would not hesitate to stop in again if in the area and needed something. read more

To the right of Studio Movie Grill. A decent grocery. I liked a lot of their drink selection (both kinds) and frozen selections. Some good deals, though there's better (and worse) right nearby. No major gouging, just saving some change that can become dollars buying this and that, in comparison to another grocery. Convenience matters, though. Did you save $3 or did that go to gas. You know? I never shopped at this store before until today. It felt like small warehouse store. I was able to find bulk items that you don't normally see at grocery stores (fundraising candy bars, 20-30 pack energy drinks, gallon syrups, and etc.). I can see myself coming here if I need to bulk items for a party or bbq. read more

Warehouse shopping without the membership price. Unfortunately, they also do not have the low prices of other warehouse stores like Costco or Sam's Club. Still, I'll come over for some items. Smart & Final does have hard to find items that most places do not have. For example (when I'm craving them), I will get a box of Red Hots candy here and some Ramona Chile Relleno burritos here! This is one of my favorite places to pick up bottles of Torani syrup. They have the big bottles (25 ounces/750 ml) for only $4.59 each - $4.04 each if you buy them 12 at a time, and I do! (Torani.com sells the same size for $7.95) When I was there today, I counted 32 regular flavors and 20 sugar free flavors. I mostly get the sugar free flavors because they are 0 calories and 0 carbs per serving. I've never shopped for produce here, but their juices and frozen items have been good. I also pick up bulk candy and paper and plastic goods here (paper plates, plastic cutlery and cups). Most importantly, this is my secret hook up sot for the little cups and lids that I use to make jello shots.nnTheir prices are low, and the quality seems good. And you don't have the long lines here that you have at Costco sometimes. read more

I know everyone has an off day but when the cashier Tracey is having a bad day don't bite the heads off the customer who is in front of you. I split my order into two as I was shopping for another household besides mine; told her to ring them together but separate bags. Twice more she asked if I wanted a bag... no two of them. This location is very convenient and kept in good order. They have all your typical supermarket needs and the prices are comparable to their competitors. I was approached a few times by employees, who were offering their assistance. The store is quite large, but their aisles are easy to navigate and allows for a quick trip if needed. During the pandemic, my family and I have committed to practicing safety behaviors, especially wearing a face mask when going out in public. To my surprise, many grocery stores are not holding their employees accountable for wearing face masks. Yesterday, I shopped at the Smart and Final on Calloway and Rosedale, in Bakersfield, CA, and was astonished at its cleanliness. More importantly, all employees were wearing masks. Here comes the kicker: they require all CUSTOMERS to wear a face masks. So what? Albertsons does also, so does Vons, Winco, 99c store, Costco, etc. What's different at Smart and Final? The employee at the front is accountable for enforcing compliance for customers to wear face masks. While I was there, a couple walked in without face masks; the employee at the cash register, politely asked them to wear a mask. The couple was extremely rude but the employee kept her cool. Even when they refused to comply and ignored her, the employee politely kept asking for compliance until the couple finally took out their masks and put them on. THANK YOU, SMART AND FINAL!! This is my go to store for everything , the workers are so friendly especially the nice lady with the red framed glasses . The prices are comparable to Costco and that's a plus and the remodel looks great ! Only one negative the guy who seems to be in charge Named Alex has a really bad attitude and I watched how he treated the workers and I left the store disgusted . I give this store 5 stars for their selection, prices and value, and cleanliness. And for its proximity to my job. I know I can almost always find what I'm looking for and it will be in stock along with some pretty sweet deals. They have a small but appreciated organic produce section that I typically shop from. And I love it when they have rotisserie chickens available. Although I did wish they had a better raw chicken variety. They only have two kinds of boneless, skinless chicken breasts and one is a jumbo pack so they pretty much only have one. So why did I only give them 3 stars? The extremely S-L-O-W checkout people. And it isn't just one person so I won't single anyone out. Last week I went in after work and grabbed what I needed in about 3 minutes but it took at least 12 minutes to check out. There were only 2 lanes open that had the same amount of people and a gentlemen and I chose each lane respectively. How did he pay and his check out person attend 3 more people after him and I was still standing behind the same lady. My checkout guy kept chatting and answering the phone and talking to his coworkers -_-. And today I went in on my lunch break and the girl took FOREVER to check out the lady in front of me then me. And she asked me if I found everything okay about 3 times. They have all been nice but unexpectedly slow. I frequent the store often for grocery shopping. Today as I was checking out, a wonderful cashier was helping me out with a smile on her face. Her name tag read Jenny. When abruptly a lady named Rose yelled at her that she was not allowed to leave her shift without two things getting done. Luckily Jenny kept a smile on her face and nodded yes to the lady. Standard Smart & Final finds here. If you've never been it's like the smaller, homelier sister to Costco. Plenty of items for party hosting. Love the inexpensive platters and other party necessities. My biggest complaint, however, is the quality of produce. It's pretty terrible. I purchased multiple items of prepackaged vegetables (bell peppers & artichokes, etc) and at least a quarter of them had already begun to rot. Gross! I would advise not to buy the packaged items and stick to things you can see. But, if you're going to buy produce I would probably stick with Vons, Savemart, or Albertsons. read more

All I can say is the stars go to customer service. I am here a lot...and it helps to know that you can ask someone that works there and they are capable, kind, and quick. As far as the products, they all seem pretty standard, would like to see a few more 'name brand' products, but I get that isn't necessarily their gimmick.
