Today I decided to order food from the little kitchen inside the Market. I don't know if it has its own name. There is a table if you want to sit and eat but it's right next to the check out counter and the front door of the market. It's not private or relaxing. This really is more of a to go/fast food, but all freshly prepared to order. The four star is for the food only, not the ambience. I was Jonesin' for some hot and sour soup and it did not disappoint. The flavor was very good. The price was reasonable. I will definitely try some of their other dishes when I come to shop. read more

I'd been wanting to stop in and look around for a while but never had the time. Yesterday, I finally had a little time to kill and decided to check it out. My kids have also been asking to try the Korean ice cream they keep seeing on TikTok--so I was surprised and excited to find it there! They had mango, grape, peach, and lemon flavors. The aisles are a bit narrow, but there's so much to see--definitely worth taking your time to explore. It was quiet and relaxed, which made it easy to browse without feeling rushed. Service was friendly and helpful. On our way out, my son stopped at the hot food area, and we were both impressed--the food was delicious and very affordable. I used to go to this market had had decent experiences there even though it is dark as HELL in there but really don't go now because they no longer take EBT/Snap. About 3-4yrs ago they did then all of a sudden they said their machine was down and it has not been up since then. Sad because this is the ONLY Asian market that I know of in Bakersfield. For me, the highlights are fresh handmade pork buns (siubao pronounced sorta like shuh bao), a ton of different mochi including fresh made, boxed / packaged, and cold (also called daifuku maybe?). Tons of tapioca pearl / boba brands and flavors - though the flavored ones I bought had no flavor (peach, orange), so I will try the black sugar ones next time. I went there because was the only Asian market in the area and i needed some Asian vegetable but they have a very poor variety of vegetables. Store is big with a lot of products but very messy and dark. Hard to find stuff. And they don't have many people who can help you. Only 2 people who were at the cashier. No signs in English at all nothing so if you go you practically can be lost inside . But other than vegetables I saw they have a big selection of dry stuff from different Asian countries . read more

This is a very large store. I can appreciate the variety of products that they have sold here. In terms of sauces, spices etc you need for cooking this is my go to. I can find Chinese cooking wine, sambal, varieties of oyster sauce and soy sauces that you cannot find at Vons or Albertsons. This is the only place in town I've been able to find Thai basil. Or legit noodles for chow mein or udon. I wish that there was a better layout/labeling of items and also that there was better lighting in the store. I am so thankful to have this store in town though, it allows me the chance to recreate some of those dishes I miss from the bay. read more

Every time I come here I tell myself I'm going to make a review, but I actually did this time because not only do they have excellent products inside. The lady at the cash register is really nice. I like how she always remembers me, but I only stop in about once every other month. It makes me think that she remembers all her customers. I buy my pad Thai noodles here and make it at home just because I feel like I make it better than most restaurants. I buy my Ramen noodles here, and I absolutely love the Matcha ice cream's and the red bean cakes. They really have more here than what my brain can process. A lot of things are in English, but a lot of things are in other languages, so I really would have to get to know more products to be able to cook more things but I love it here !! read more

This Asian Market is HUGE and offers a lot of variety of Asian goodies from snacks, ingredients for cooking, spices, noodles, etc. We were able to buy what we need. I am so happy to see the Filipino brands that I dont see in my local asian store back in Missouri. The market can also be pricey but I do understand they are only the Asian market in Bakersfield, I believe. I was not able to ask the name of the lady in the cashier, she is very friendly and nice. Without a Ranch99 or H Mart, Asia Market has the monopoly here in Bakersfield when it comes to Asian food and products. I find that the prices are higher than what I'm typically used to. They have a ton of products but very difficult to find anything. I'm sure there is a method to their madness. I typically pick items up when I travel south for business. Asian Market is great for "emergency" items I may need when I cook Asian type dishes. Majority of workers don't speak English. I asked two different people stocking if they had a certain product. Their response, "sorry no speak English." Needless to say, I perused around for a while and never found what I was looking for. I say go there if you are in tight crunch. I am grateful we have something here in town tho. read more

It's a hidden in the cut kind of store, jam packed with random goodies. You have to go with an open mind and able to take you time through each aisle. Each corner has a hidden item and items you definitely cant find anywhere else. During the summer you get alot of fresh seafood, but they always have freezers pack with items. Yes granted some of the meats have freezer burn, the other items in the other freezers look good. From dishes and cooking were to rare foods and old condiments. I had not been here in about 5 years and that had been my very first visit. Just not close to home plus I like going to Thai Town in LA. I went back here last night, drawn there for my love of noodles. Wanted to try some new packages and WOW! They have a lot of noodles! I mean, I knew they would but I had forgotten how big this place actually is and how much stuff they carry. The store is much bigger inside than it looks from the outside. It was getting later into the evening, parking, no issue out front. It was not very busy. The front doors were wide open and it was freezing in there! I missed going to the gym before it closed because my intended 5 min stop in here was more like an hour! The staff inside sweeping did not ask me if I needed anything as lost as I must have looked but I had fun exploring on my own. With hubby whom I dragged along and I am not sure he was too thrilled as he was so cold in there too. And, he does not share my mega love of noodles! The place is cramped though. Thin aisles and boxes everywhere. My Gosh, they carry so much stock. How do they do it? No fresh catfish, lobster nor crab in the running tanks as they are too expensive right now I was told. Hmm. Cut down on any fishy smell inside the store, for sure. Huge bags of rice here. The lady checking me out at the til was super sweet and warned me that my noodle selections were spicy hot. Perfect! Mission accomplished! The hotter, the better. I also left with some whole, thai, fresh chilies that freeze very well. I also purchased some random imported pasta from Italy (ha!) that looked really good. Some red curry paste, pad thai sauce, bakery custard roll, cappuccino wafer cookies, Filipino spaghetti sauce (I have been wanting to try this for some time after all the buzz I see on line about Jollibee). I did not find the prices to be too high here. - compared to where I come from WAYYYY up north $$$, not bad at all. I cannot fit all the packages of noodles I got into 1 photo. I hope they are good as Cup O Noodle from the grocery store just is not cutting it these days! read more

Just moved to Bakersfield and needed a new grocery store that sold Asian food. I'm usually in the market for Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese brands. This place is very reminiscent of every Chinese bodega in NY. Narrow aisles, dim-ish lighting. But no butcher or bakery or large produce. Mostly canned, frozen, and dry food, but still a lot of variety and I always find what im looking for! And I guess they're the only Asian grocer in town, so 5-stars for hanging in there! I googled for 'korean grocery' and this was the only result that made sense that was in my driving range althought it was still 16 miles from my place. But nit much korean here. There was kimchi and that was it. Since I already drove that far, I decided to shop anyways. There were mostly Filipino goods. I bought a.sack of rice. It was $10 more than where I normally buy it. They have wide shopping carts but narrow and dark isles. It was very difficult to maneuver the cart. I'll probably be back here if ever I'll need Filipino goods. read more

Asia market is one of my favorite stores. I love the fact that this store carries just about anything and everything for all the Asian ethnicities. Anything that you possibly need for your Asian cuisines you can find here and if you can't... Just ask Mindy and she'll advise you where.. The staff and owner are very friendly and very informative. Some of the foods I buy are "already made foods" and the owner Mindy and her son has even given me tips on how to make a few things on my own so I would be able to save on cost by making things on my own versus buying already made foods that are a little pricier. The store is ALWAYS open no matter what holiday or day it is! (Of course during business hours) They even have a little area where they sell Chinese food.. Can't give you a review on that since I have never tried it. *also on a quick note they sell Kinder Bueno here which is chocolate from London!!! A must!!!! Best chocolate you can ever eat! Bakersfield has a lively community of Japanese and Japanophiles, and it's sister city, Wakayama, Japan. Lots of fine Japanese restaurants and sushi houses here, but Asia Market won't be of help when preparing the wonderful Japanese cuisine dishes. Though bursting in mostly overpriced foods from all across Asia, its practically-nonexistent Japanese selection smells like cultural racism, tastes like discrimination. This store is so much fun. If you cut out some time and walk through each isle, you will end up at the register with an armful of stuff. If you need any ingredient to make any Asian dish, you'll find it here. It's out of the ordinary for Bakersfield and I'm so glad it exists. My boys love coming here- the older son loves Asian candy, Pocky, and dried plums, the younger loving to look at the live fish. After coming here for years, and besides all of the other lovely things found within the isles, I mainly come here for the Chek Hup 3-in-1 Ipoh White Coffee King from Malaysia. If you are a coffee lover, give it a try. If you aren't a coffee lover, I would suggest visiting anyway. This place is a hidden gem of Bakersfield. read more

They have moved things around and I love it. They offer more fresh fish now too. It used to be just salmon (steak), catfish (live on site) and tilapia (whole) They have added stripped bass(whole) and we love it. Great selection but do take the time to check expiration date. This is the reason why i have to knock down a star. Otherwise it's perfect. Fresh noodles, Malaysian Maggi noodles(which are hard to find!), mangoes etc. Check out my wonton noodle soup!
