Well, at the very last minute I was tasked with bringing a Floral arrangement for a friend's birthday. I thought about picking it up the night before but by the time I could get there it was after 7 pm. I'm sure the floral department was closed so I had to go the morning of our lunch. This kind of thing is not my strength. I went to the counter and asked if they could make up an arrangement for me right then. Well of course not because they had a number of previous orders that had to be made first. I was told there were premade arrangements I could pick from. Not happy about picking premade. This place is 5 stars solely on the bakery. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They are there to help you out and give you the best options. Bakery is affordable and very well done. Staff at checkout though is very rude. Seem to be in a rush or having a bad day. Not a one time occurrence either because I get people can have a bad day, it's every time I go. When you visit Vons, avoid purchasing a gift card from the largest gift card area in Bakersfield. It's a whole system that is set up to protect consumers from 'gift card scams' but makes it difficult for the consumer to purchase. Once you take your gift card to the register to purchase; the cashier will replace it with one that's behind the register, but wait! Won't have it. So just have to wait while they go search for one. It's a whole process. And if you need one in the early morning, that becomes a bigger challenge because they don't have a live person at the register. You'll have to use self-checkout; but wait! Can't ring up a gift card at a self-checkout. I think you get the message... read more

I recently visited Vons to purchase a bottle of Casamigos tequila. The shelf displayed a lower digital price, so I asked an associate named Sam how to receive it. She told me I needed to download the app and complete the purchase through it rather than checking out normally in the store. I specifically asked whether this would create an online order that someone would need to fill, but she assured me that it would not be an issue. After paying through the app, I approached Shannon at self-checkout. I explained that the purchase had created an order, but that I already had the bottle in my possession and could show the receipt on my phone. I asked her to verify the purchase, mark the order as filled, check my ID, and remove the security cap. Instead of trying to understand or resolve the situation, Shannon insisted that I could only receive the bottle through Park and Go. While discussing the matter, she involved another customer standing near her kiosk and asked for that customer's opinion. This was completely inappropriate and unprofessional, as the customer did not work for Vons and had no reason to be included in a discussion regarding my purchase. When I questioned why the order could not simply be marked as filled, Shannon responded by explaining that Park and Go is where you "park, and then go." Her tone was rude, dismissive, and belittling. She continued joking and bantering with the other customer while refusing to let me leave with an item I had already paid for. I eventually requested a manager and spoke with Luke. He immediately understood the situation, filled the order, checked my ID, removed the security cap, and allowed me to leave with my purchase. His handling of the matter confirmed that the solution I had suggested from the beginning was entirely possible. I appreciate Luke resolving the issue, but Shannon's behavior was unacceptable for someone working in customer service. She was dismissive, unnecessarily confrontational, and showed extremely poor judgment by involving another customer in the situation. Vons should provide additional training on digital orders, professionalism, and respectful communication with customers. read more

I spent about $60 on fruit and frozen meals as I'm staying at a nearby hotel and needed quick meals. Frozen meals were great, fairly priced about $7 each. 12 pack of Diet Coke $9, higher than typical but still reasonably priced. Sadly, my pomegranate seeds I bought were spoiled. So I'd suggest perhaps only buying fresh fruit, as the packaged seeds looked good in the tub, but were definitely spoiled. The parking lot and the outside of the store are pretty dark. I was there about 7 pm, well after sundown. And as I drove up to the store, I wasn't able to discern if it was open or not. It's really poorly lit and several windows in front are blacked out. It was bright inside, but oddly dark outside! I appreciated the self check-out. The staffer there was helpful, and there was no wait. Store was clean. Well stocked. read more

I usually go to the Vons on Stockdale in Bakersfield, though I've been having trouble with the other locations too: they do not honor the deals I have clipped. I am getting sick of holding up the line showing them my clipped deals! Today, I had to do that, and the new cashier didn't quite know how to do it, so the woman with the long wavy hair traded places with her and rang me up again with all the wrong prices!!! And she's been here a long time. FORTUNATELY I was able to get it straightened out with someone who knew what she was doing. But this overcharging was supposed to have been straightened out when I called them. So what is up with this??? I am so sick of dealing with this. Overcharging is just sleazy and dishonest. How does Vons think that it's customers are going to continue to put up with this? I will not stop getting the right prices promised to me. manager with the grey hair at self check out was acting clueless today and was no help to us. there was one register open today for "flower purchases only" and self check out, we had no flowers and alcohol couldn't be purchased at self check out so we were standing around waiting for an answer and all was said to us was "we'll call someone for you". I prefer the Stockdale Vons for all my shopping needs. The location is convenient with ample parking and the store is clean and well stocked. The staff is friendly too, especially the manager named Guy. I watched him just a few weeks ago dealing with a shoplifter near the beer cooler. He was assertive, yet cool, calm, and collected as he got his merchandise back and escorted him out of the store. While I don't believe this is too common at this location because I always feel safe at the Stockdale Vons, I believe his attitude was indicative of years of experience in the industry. It's good most of the time, however I had a bad experience the last time when I went to purchase a money order. I stood at the customer service desk and no one acknowledged me, even the workers that seen me. Some made eye contact with me and I could see them trying to hide from me . Today I experienced a Vons associate who changed my perception of the last review I had made. I've come here since my last review and have had good experiences but today was especially pleasant. Sara in the floral department was so nice and helpful. Not only did she take time to create a beautiful arrangement out of the flowers I picked out she took the time and effort to make sure it was perfect and just how I wanted. The time and effort as well as the attention to detail is something I've yet to experience here before. I'm very happy with my purchase and the customer service that she provided. Vons has always had the best supermarket bakery department. Clean, inviting, tempting tasty treats. We recently got their Champagne Cake. It's just a white cake with white frosting (a lot of white frosting), (decorated with the traditional pink/white shavings). If you're thinking it's comparable to our local staple bakery who's name begins and ends with "S", it's not. No one in the family liked it, too much frosting, dry--we threw about 3/4 of it away. I was HORRIFIED when my husband brought home a flower crown that I had ordered for my best friend's baby shower. The flowers were already wilted and it was taped together like some homemade mess - nothing you'd expect from a professional florist so I was shocked. I went into Linda at Vons desperate for help - I couldn't give that crown to my friend! She was absolutely wonderful and so friendly - she completely sympathized with me and said she'd take care of it. I came back an hour later and was completely blown away - it was BEAUTIFUL! Needed to order a cake for an upcoming baby shower. Not too impressed with their baby themed cakes, but I found a cute cake in their ready made case. I asked the woman who helped me if they could change the colors of that cake and have two cake flavors instead of one. She said no problem. Wrote me up. I paid. All good. Forward to day of pick up... Pick up was a complete hassle! No one in bakery was visible. A woman from deli yelled back to the staff for me, but no one came out. No one else offered to help. The woman who had yelled back for me returned after what seemed like forever and got someone for me. Cake was beautiful. The chocolate cake was absolutely delicious! Nice, big store! Neat, clean and good selections. I was only looking for some cough drops on my way in to work the other day and came upon this sign in the busy parking lot. Two other people pulled in the spot then moved their cars after reading the sign. I decided to time my visit after reading it. Four minutes in and out. I keep seeing this BS about supermarket prices being so high because they only make about 1% profit. I get the fact that have huge overheads, but as one of many examples, i used to buy their frozen stir fry veggies at $2 a bag. They jumped to $3 one day. You kidding me? A 33% increase overnight? Well, i knew it was a money grab and apparently i wasnt the only one that stopped buying them. I have a grocery outlet nearby and was able to buy cheaper and organic no less. I did however love that stir fry mix. Then vons recently they dropped the price to what it used to be, $2. Looks like too many peope were upset so they had 2 choices...drop it back or stop selling it. Heres the thing if they are only making 1% profit, how can they sell it for 33% less? Point being 1- that 1% thing is complete BS, and 2-they gouge us as much as possible till people start to vote with their wallets. STOP BUYING INFLATED PRODUCTS ! We aren't paying such high prices because the stores can't survive otherwise. We're paying because their marketing department is reading our spending habits with their marketing algorhythms !!!! read more

Just cames from Vons on Coffee Road. As I was checking out in the express lane two employees, (one of which I believe is a manager) were fighting. It was the most inappropriate and upsetting thing I've ever experienced in a grocery store. Yelling and telling each othere to shut up, just a couple of feet from customers. I called to make a formal complaint but one of the same women that was engaged in the fighting answered. I asked for the store director John Zabatta. I got back attitude, "He's not here." I love this Vons. Nestled in a busy shopping center on Stockdale Highway it's the best grocery store in town, in my opinion. Most the time I can't afford to shop here for all of my groceries. But I do come here for the $5 sales on Fridays. They have various items on sale for $5 every Friday. Check out the ad in your mailbox and you will see what I'm talking about. The produce and meat is what I come here for mainly. Top quality and always fresh. I love their meat dept.. I get the fresh kebabs by the pound and they are so great for a quick meal in which you don't want to do any prep. Just throw em on the grill. The gentleman that run that department are just the sweetest guys ever. Always happy to make their customers happy. I love their wine and flower selection! The floral department makes some very beautiful arrangements. Bakery has a nice selection of cakes, cookies and pastries. They also sell glass cake stands here. Some really gorgeous ones. This is for the Von's deli only. You have to try Von's deli sandwiches. I'm surprised that one of my favorite sandwiches in Bakersfield (and I've tried many) comes from Von's. Any Von's, they're all good! My favorite is the 'Turkey pesto avo' On ciabatta bread with mayo, pesto, turkey and a slice if provolone. Then toasted... Double toast it, trust me. There are days when it's late and your sweet tooth is crazy for a slice of cake. .. if you ever get it bad, Vons bakery is legit and inexpensive. They serve single slices of cake, cheesecake, fruit tarts, brownies send of course donuts. The prices range for a single serve dessert is under $3 bucks. My favorite is the strawberry cake but my other go-to dessert is the red velvet slice. Want to be fancy? They have an array of fruit tarts or cheesecake with a drizzle of fruit compote. I love Vons it's my favorite store the prices are high on certain things but I always buy the stuff that's on sale, also they are the only store that sales chocolate milk from local dairy's it's about 5 dollars for a glass 1/2 gallon but I would pay 10 dollars for it! They have a good selection of organic items, the bakery is always well stocked. The cashiers are all pretty friendly except the last time I went I had to bag my own groceries which pissed me off that is the biggest reason I come here or Albertsons because I hate bagging food and they do it for you! read more

I usually stop at Vons on Coffee b/c it's a little closer to me and they always have bakery products on hand, even at 6:00 when they open. I decided to stop at the Stockdale location as it's on my way to work, to pick up 3 dozens of bagels for my coworkers for morning briefing. I walk in at about 6:10 and everything's empty! The lady at the bakery said Nope we don't have any, they're not even ready, won't be for a while and they're barely working on donuts. Huge bummer when you have to pick up breakfast and have to drive somewhere else to get it. I would've imagine items like this would be ready prior to opening?! Went to the customer service counter today at 10:30am to inquire on how the Vons App. works for the digital coupons and to ask about the members savings card. No one was working at the counter and the cashier paged twice with no reply. Another customer came in line for lotto tickets. The cashier mentioned they might be at lunch she went and checked and came back to say it would be another 30 minutes before the person came off of lunch. Very poor customer service and I think what should have been done was to at least put out a sign saying out to lunch and will be back at whatever time. I would not have been standing there 10 to 15 minutes. Also the Manager could have stepped in and filled in for the person on lunch break they should know how to do all the jobs so they can help out. read more
