I've been searching for one specific thing for someone so checking out any TJs or Marshall's I come across. I was able to easily find the right rack and look for the item. Then I perused the rest of the store of course. Well organized, even on a busy holiday weekend. There was a checkout line but it moved quickly. Easy parking. 3 stars for this large chain. I default chains to 3 stars as they must be A-OK to expand as they have.

I understand this is a business and they need to make a profit, however it's Goodwill. Every item in this store was donated. They received every item for Free / $0. Speakers for $100. I saw a piano / keyboard for $175. $175!! Headphones with ripped cushioning for $25. As I said, there is nothing wrong with making a profit on items, and more power to them, but when you see items at Goodwill, selling for close to retail and in some cases, I've seen items selling for higher than retail! I've always believed Goodwill was a thrift store, selling items for people in need. However, this particular Goodwill is just turning into a department store with used goods, and it's sickening!!

A few months back they had a t shirt behind the counter marked up at $200. As I was curious about the price, I looked on eBay and the shirt sold for $75 in great condition. Their shirt was torn up and put back together. I asked an employee about it and they simply replied it was marked as such because it was old. I have also seen used items from Walmart, a store 500 feet away, marked at over their retail value from this Goodwill in Macedon. 5 years ago this was my favorite Goodwill to visit, now I only go their to laugh at their ridiculous pricing. If this price increases resulted in a higher percentage of monetary flow to their work programs I would understand and support this. However their 1/8 of profit has not changed and the increase in price is only to boost the income of the higher ups. A concept that charitable organizations are supposed to be in stark contrast of. I believe that this up-charging of price is made even worse as Goodwill Macedon is not located in a wealthy area and those searching for clothing are limited to either brands that are known to be cheap and unreliable, or paying 3x the base amount for something that they can find brand new at Eastview Mall for $5 more. Over the years I have donated hundreds of dollars by rounding up my change at the end of a purchase, but currently I can not see myself doing that as I am already paying up to 10x the amount I would have been paying 2 years ago, and I have no longer any desire to donate this money to Goodwill Macedon. I have began to take my money and donations to other organizations such as Salvation Army as I know that my money is actually being used for rehabilitation and it hurts myself as a consumer less. I have and will continue to urge others to do the same, as this malicious practice harms those that the Goodwill organization was founded on benefitting. I hope to see a change but I sincerely can not see this happening as that means less money for Goodwill corporate.
