The ladies/women's clothing areas were wonderfully laid out and impeccable taste in the clothing lines and presentation. I felt as though I was treated with high regard and utmost respect. What a beautiful store, great array of fine merchandise, & Uplifting Atnisphere. The Sales Staff are gracious, attractive, Friendly & Knowledgeable. My Family still living on Ling Island are jealous! I love their Women's lounge area on the 2nd floor, they have such an accommodating and clean diaper change station and very nice, spacious bathrooms. My toddler loves the talking tree space in their kids section. He loves that he can press the buttons and it makes different sounds. Plus that he can crawl through it. I didn't want to be at a mall on Black Friday, but I must say that Von Maur was better than I expected. I was tagging along with my MIL and SIL as they were looking for her Mother of the Bride dress for a July wedding. Unsurprisingly, the selection was for New Year's Eve, not a July wedding, but the sales staff in the womens dress area was very friendly, explaining what they did have, where it was located, and when they would expect the selection to turn over to be more appropriate for summer. The dressing room area was neat, if not a little worn, and spacious with lots of good mirrors, and even some comfy seats for those of us waiting. Downstairs my SIL found the shoes she wanted. My MIL wasn't thrilled with the lack of service, as my SIL had to hunt down someone to find her the shoes she wanted to try, but considering that it was Black Friday, I thought the few employees that they had were hustling to serve as many customers as they could. read more

They have great racks for sale and clearance items too. The best part is the shoe clearance room. It is an entire room dedicated to clearance shoes and the prices are unbeatable. (Apparently there's two pages for Von Maur, might as well post this here as well) While Von Maur is surely out of my price range when it comes to shopping for clothes, I still find reasons to come here when I normally shop at Eastview. If you want a department store with a lot of class and elegance to it that makes shopping feel like more of an experience then just a simple purchase, there is a reason to check out this store. Despite opening only two years ago, Von Maur has never looked any newer. The store is spacious even for the amount of clothing and furniture it holds. They make nice use of the green and gold colors that were once popular twenty years ago but instead of making it look dated, they match the feel of the store and adds to an overall, tranquil vibe that can be found around the store. In some of the separate clothing areas for men and women, they have created private sitting areas that look like they came out of someone's home office complete with old books, armchairs, and glass cabinets...fancy! When you walk upstairs or even if you are still downstairs, it feels very open and airy and you are able to see most of the store if find the right place to view at somewhere by the escalators. Speaking of that area, there is a nice sitting room arrangement at the bottom of both the moving stairs next to a lovely pianist who is very skilled at moving those keys. It's interesting to have a department store take time to actually hire someone to play a piano to add pleasant and relaxing music in the background instead of a generic recent pop song that no one really cares about. It's never the same pianist though but all of them that I have seen are friendly and I have been told by some that they enjoy doing it to make Von Maur a calm and serene store to shop in. As well as the piano players, the salespeople don't discriminate or annoy you with pushy sales tactics or rude inquiries. It may take a few tries to find one at first but when you ask for help, they are more than happy to assist you and from what I've seen, appear to be highly knowledgeable about the store and how it works and also, they appear to be a tad chipper...charming. Back to the store itself, they have a small area near the escalators that contains a whole set of old Kodak cameras out for display which is nice to view when you first visit but with no protection over the cabinets, I fear someone may try to snag one in the mere future despite most of them having no true value anyways. Cameras aside, there are various antiquities around the store such as various musical instruments, lovely colonial tables, flowers in vases, and beautiful pictures. Did I mention they use brass? That's always nice to see in this day of age and even though it may look to be a touch out of times, it holds up quite nicely. I have tried to make some purchases here a few times but I have always put them back because I realized I can't actually afford them. They are charging "High-end" prices for all of their items which are nearly triple in value of what you'll find at a JCPenney or a Macy's. However, these are nicer clothes made by some prestigious companies so if you can afford to buy them, I would take the opportunity and do it. With all of these positive qualities such as the outstanding customer service, luxurious décor, and calm atmosphere, I can surely keep Von Maur under my radar whenever I return here for another great experience. The live music is back. It's Saturday afternoon around 4:30 pm, and I just saw one of the most amazing piano performances in the store. I'm sure all pianists at Von Maur are good, but the lady I saw today is one of the best pianists I've ever seen. Von Maur is so lucky to have her! read more

I just had to leave a comment about this wonderful department store. It brings back memories of traveling to downtown Rochester as a child, visiting Sibley's and McCurdy's with the wonderful choices and many sales people. This store is great! The selections are different from most you find around here. While some prices are higher end, you can find bargains here and the selection is the best. I bought a cute dress for my granddaughter and my friend purchased a top for her at $9 and $6 respectively. A real bargain! The piano players and comfy seating on the main floor give weary shoppers a place to stop and rest. Make sure you check out the women's rest room- elegant and well appointed! Refreshing! read more

This is the best department store in the area. I can't say enough nice things about this store, and when I need a clothing item, I always check here. It's always neat and tidy, the clothing selection is high end, but not overpriced, and you can find many designers that you can't find elsewhere in Rochester. The children's section is adorable as well, and has a fun area for the kids to play, plus unique choices for children's clothing and toys. They also have a nice and clean mother's/baby changing room. Every sales associate I've met has been so helpful. I hope this store is around for a long time. read more

What a relief! The mall is a constant onslaught of noise and pushy salespeople. Von Maur has neither. The store is quiet, and the piano player's mild and conspicuously cheerful tunes are gently piped throughout the store. The salespeople don't bug you, but when you ask them something they are genuinely knowledgeable and helpful, setting them apart from all other mall salespeople ever. The racks aren't crowded, so it's a very pleasant experience! We didn't buy anything because the clothes are all hideous and drastically overpriced, but if I'm ever stuck at the mall again I'll go here for a breather. Christmas shopping is an absolute pleasure with gorgeous decorations everywhere and genuinely helpful, friendly salespeople any time of the year. The prices aren't rock bottom, nor do I expect them to be. I want to be taken care of sometimes and if that means I pay a couple bucks more for my blouse, so be it! Women's clothing selection is nice and I do really appreciate prompt and good alterations. The men's section seems to be lacking in depth. Particularly when it comes to suits. I'm from the Midwest, and you can tell this is a Midwest chain - style is lacking. By the way, what in the world prompts Yelpers to put in all the silly photos? This store is easily the cleanest and best looking in the mall. Everything has a fresh shine to it and it is very glamorous. It has the most luxurious bathrooms I've ever seen. It's not as affordable, but they often have sales and deals. It feels like a palace. There is occasionally a man playing on a grand piano, which adds to the ambience. read more

I went in looking to buy an engagement ring. Turns out that this upscale and expensive department store doesn't sell fine jewelry (for the record: JCP, Macy's, Sears, and like do sell fine jewelry, but Van Maur does not). Despite that, the employee in the jewelry section was very polite and very attentive the second we stopped in. The clothes are probably expensive to pay for the live pianist and beautiful Christmas decorations. Felt like an old school department store, and I loved that, didn't love the prices for the same clothes that other stores sold for less. read more

Von Mauer - Lord & Taylor -Macy's. Compared to any other department store in ROC, this place is top de la top. Really customer service focused, but not giving off the essence as though they're commission driven. Too much pushy-ness bothers me. I like sales reps that know their product, especially if I'm dropping that much money. I shop mostly in the cosmetics department and Susan is the greatest, lets me know when Chanel samples are in so I can hoard them in my purse, haha. Gorgeous interior. I live closer to Syracuse, where they have the huge Destiny Mall. The next time I need a shopping fix, I will travel the extra miles, if only to go to Von Maur! Service beyond belief! My sister and I shopped for a trip to a resort and needed clothing from two levels of the shop. We were treated like royalty, with assistants from the upper level carrying our clothing items to our main dressing room, starting a rolling clothing rack just for us. Our personal shopping assistant, Diana, stood by, removing clothing for us and bringing us bottle water, a change of size, etc. Amazing! Then, you go out into the spacious store, with a live piano player, plenty of room. gorgeous merchandising, etc. After this experience, going to Macy's was just so different. I really like this store. Every time I have been in there it has been clean and organized, even in the middle of the mad holiday shopping frenzy. Can't say the same for other dept stores here! They have great customer service there. The sales people are helpful and friendly without being pushy and over bearing. I like that I can find some brands here that aren't offered at other dept stores in the area or if they are not to the depth they are at Von Maur. The place is very classy with a piano player in the middle of the store. And the bathrooms. .. wow! Clean, roomy, clean, well stocked, clean, well decorated, and did I mention clean? For a large department store, this is a very customer focused business. It reminds me somewhat of a Nordstroms, if you have ever shopped there. The sales associates really do go above and beyond. Everything organized in a logical manner and spotlessly clean and neat ( children's dept!)I went in looking for a very specific style/color dress for my daughter (to wear for a school play) the woman working on the department immediately greeted us and actively assisted us on our quest, any we were successful! A refreshing change from going into some stores and spending a ton of time just looking for someone who works there! Some of their clothing is just prohibitively high end for my kids' needs (my 10 year old son really doesn't need a Michael Kors suit!) but then a lot of their items are more moderately priced, and you won't end up paying more than you would at a Target or Kohls---so don't let the opulent atmosphere scare you away too quickly ;) read more

Von Maur is top notch when it comes to the ideal shopping experience! They've got it all down...quality, selection, pricing, organization, and most important customer service! I wish VM could give a class on customer service so that all the other department stores could get an education on how to do things right! I've been told by folks that have been around longer than I have (I don't want to say older lol) that this is what stores used to be like in the past. As soon as you walk in the store, you're taken back to a time when the customer was made to feel right at home, and that sales workers are more than just cash registers! These customer service reps are hard workers, and their goal is way more than getting a sale. If you're looking for a specific item, they will do anything to assist you in finding it. If you want to try on clothing, they will set up a dressing room with your own rack to place wanted and unwanted clothes on. Wrong size? No problem! They will go back and get the correct one. "Eh I'm not too crazy about this color blouse. Does it come in any other colors?" They will go and bring back another color for you. Need help zipping up a dress? They'll even help with that too! And all the while you don't feel pushed or invaded in any way. They even offer bottle water to quench your thirst while you shop! One time I was looking for a shirt for my 16 year old son, and although they carried the brand he liked, they didn't carry the particular style. Instead of trying to get me to buy the shirt that they carried, the man who was assisting me told me that Macy's did carry that particular style. He told me he understands how picky teenagers can be, and that I was better off going there to get exactly what my son would like! I couldn't believe it! The man was so honest and thoughtful! He actually cared that I bought the right thing even though that meant I wouldn't be buying it there! I was so impressed that I bought my son a belt and boxer shorts from him, and justified my purchase as early Christmas shopping! Lol! Maybe that's the method to their madness, but I don't care...I truly appreciated his help! You will never find a better store anywhere! I love this store. After a few of my purchases, I have received hand written thank you cards, with little personal notes included. There is a wonderful tailor who will fit me into any dress, if it doesn't fit correctly, for a fair price. Most of the employees call my mother and I both by name, which makes us feel appriciated in the store. We have only had one offputting experience, it was in the jewelry department while my mom was searching for jewelry for my sisters wedding. After being looked up and down, and the sales woman turning her nose up at us, we decided to leave. My mother spent nearly 1,000 at the Swarovski store instead. I have been to this store twice since it opened; once during the holidays and most recently last weekend and I was thrilled both times. The store is very clean and well organized. The live piano music really enhances the shopping experience...who would think that? The bathrooms are AMAZING!! Oh and the Women's Plus Size section is unbelievable. This can be hard to find. I am at a tough age right now and I am a bit on the chunky side so I need a plus size clothing line. I don't want to be dressed like a crazy teen or 20 something but I also don't want to be stuck in Alfred Dunner next to my mother. Von Maur has a great selection. I may be 5'6 but my legs are short and almost all pants are too long for me....at Von Maur get them altered for FREE! The dressing rooms were wonderful and when recently shopping for a formal evening wear my husband and I went to Von Maur and they treated us like gold! The alterations to the dress...FREE! Buy a gift you can get it gift wrapped...FREE! The prices are a little higher then Macys but this place makes Macys look like Wal-Mart in comparison. Cannot say enough nice things about this store. It truly was like turning back the clock to a time when sales clerks were concerned with customers needs and truly appreciated their business. It did take us a while to get there, but when we did we just could not believe it. There was a pianist playing beautifully the whole time we shopped there. There were beautiful areas to sit with antiques which gave it a home like feel. It was just a "nice place to be" I had gone there in hopes of finding a good dress for my son's upcoming wedding and was pleasantly shocked at the wide selection in the women's department. The styles were beautiful and classic designs and I was so thrilled that I went there. They had sale items as well which were reduced to very reasonable prices and next time I will look at those racks more carefully. I was just so thrilled to find such a large selection of dresses that I was taken up with that. What a pleasure it was to shop there and how nice everyone was to us. I just am not used to service like that anymore and they really stood out as a good example for the rest to follow.
