My wife had her platinum diamond earrings altered here and she's happy with the results. They took detailed pictures of the original pieces, including the laser inscription on the diamonds, to ensure that the original diamonds were kept. Good communication and text messaging when the item was ready for pick-up. Probably a little more expensive than other less established jewelers, but worth it for the peace of mind. read more

They replaced a diamond in my tennis bracelet and it turned orange after 6 months. They held onto it for 4 weeks (told me it was a 2 week wait and I had to contact them to get it back). The manager was the one to repair the diamond after I had pointed the missing spot upon pick up inspection. DO NOT GO HERE read more

This is the place to go for beautiful jewelry! My wedding and engagement rings are from here and the quality has stood the test of time. They recently repaired my gold bracelet and it's amazing. Thank you Gem Lab! read more

I came to The Gem Lab with an idea, and Paul walked me through a design process to make exactly what I wanted. We looked at trays of gems to find the right color. Then he sent me CAD work ups of the ring and finally photos of the finished product. From start to finish, it was a wonderful experience. The team at The Gem Lab is incredibly kind and talented. I can't recommend them enough! read more

The customer service is what will keep you in this store. They are wonderfully attentive and understanding of everyone's jewelry needs, asking all the right questions and never being pushy or too sales-y. I was a total novice walking in the door and left each visit feeling more knowledgable about the process. We originally came in for an engagement ring design, meeting with Paul to discuss options. Be prepared for a few meetings and email communication -- they are very thorough and design most rings from scratch. They have bands that you can customize and you work with him or their team to pick out the right stone to fit your needs and wants. After designing the ring, we decided we wanted to go in another direction. I was worried to change ideas, but Paul was wonderfully helpful, assuring us that people change direction all the time. In our case, there wasn't too many man-hours invested yet and we were able to pivot easily. From there, we looked at different diamond bands, I wanted something simple and low profile. We found the right fit and it didn't take more than a few days to get the order in for the sizing I wanted and they had it ready a few days after I made the decision on the band and had it resized for me. I also worked with them to resize and add a new small diamond chip that was missing from my Great Aunt's platinum ring, along with a thorough cleaning --it looks brand new. They encourage their customers to visit every 6-months for a steam cleaning. I will surely be back for that and at any point for future designs. Overall, the experience working with them was wonderful and I'd recommend them to anyone seeking custom engagement rings or beautifully designed jewelry from a family establishment with the highest of customer service. read more

after dealing with a terrible well known jeweler on the east side for many years I was recommended highly to the Gem Lab by family. I needed my rings repaired. staff was very friendly and welcoming. The work was completed super fast and for a tiny fraction of the cost of what I was quoted elsewhere. My rings never looked better and I will forever be a devoted customer to the Gem Lab going forward! They have great deals and perks for buying with them. Don't waste your time/money at the big name stores. read more

Ooh... Better not arrive too close to the end of the business day; you won't be able to shop there. They need to be clearer about that when customers inquire. We arrived there about 10 minutes before closing only to be shooed out the door. read more

Several years ago my husband made the wonderful choice of purchasing my engagement ring at The Gem Lab. The location is small and quiet but they help you customize and make jewelry exactly how you wish. They are very careful about skin allergies and sensitivities and know how to make a diamond look beautiful and sparking. We also purchased our wedding bands here and they came out wonderful and my band compliments the engagement ring perfectly. I come back at least every 6 months to have my rings polished and they look good as new (Included when you purchase the rings here). I have never made an appointment just walked in and they were able to help me. Staff has always been helpful, courteous and friendly when I have stopped in. Pricing seems reasonable and fair and they really seem to care about making their customers happy. read more

I can say from experience, this place makes dreams come to reality! I recently worked with Paul and The Gem Lab team to design and create a custom engagement ring for my (now) fiance. My experience with the Gem Lab was rather unique in that I am originally from Rochester, but am currently residing in Chicago, and thus had to work with their team remotely via email, phone, text, Facetime, etc.... but man was I impressed. The Gem Lab staff was incredibly attentive, responsive, organized, and thoughtful and made my experience as amazing as I could ever imagine. Despite not being local, I was able to be involved throughout all parts of the process (CAD design, modifications, changes, finishing etc..) and was thrilled with the service I received from Paul. In an era when many jewelers have gone on-line and customer service has fallen by the way-side, The Gem Lab stands out like a brilliant diamond. If you want Grade A customer service (and perfect jewelry to match), you MUST check out The Gem Lab. Now onto the jewelry itself... When I dreamed of the engagement ring I wanted to present to my fiance, I never thought it would be as beautiful of the one The Gem Lab produced for me. The team helped produce CAD drawings so that I could see a model of what the ring would look like prior to production, and assisted me in making modifications as necessary. They provided me with professional photographs and videos of the ring so that I would have them forever. Paul's expertise in gemology and jewelry design was unparalleled and he provided tons of excellent advice to ensure my ring was everything I had hoped it to be. The finished product was beyond my wildest imagination and I can confidently say I would never go anywhere else (or recommend anywhere else) in Rochester to get my jewelry, or to design any new pieces I might desire. If I could give them 6-stars, I would. Thank you for everything! read more

As always, Paul and Eric always take amazing care of you. I wouldn't ever go anywhere else for any piece of quality jewelry.

I've never written a Yelp review in my life, but the experience I had with the Gem Lab warrants one. Especially since it is very underrated here. My fiancee and I used the Gem Lab for both her engagement ring, and our wedding rings. We worked with their jeweler Paul Cassarino throughout our entire experience. We were looking to get the best price on a diamond for the engagement ring, so we went through an online wholesaler. We brought the first diamond in to Paul, and he examined it for us. He noted that there was some issues with it that would cause it to be very difficult to insure. Seeing this, we returned that diamond and sent out for a new one. In the mean time, we had Paul show us their collection. While we were comparing prices, he recognized that the online wholesaler would be a better deal, and told us to go with them for the diamond and come to them for the setting. I've heard stories of other jewelers refusing to help in these situations. Paul was more than helpful, and even made sure that our online deal was legitimate and exactly what we paid for. The build quality of the setting itself is very high, it was perfect when it came in, and we've had no issues since. When it came time to pick out our wedding bands, we came back to the Gem Lab. We talked with both Paul and another assistant at the shop. Over the course of our decisions, there was a miscommunication in the designs that we wanted, and the rings that came in were different from the designs that we wanted. When we brought this to their attention, Paul immediately did everything he could to help us get the rings we actually wanted. Which included putting a rush service on the rings (our wedding was only a few weeks away). He told us that even though the original bands could not be returned, he was not going to charge us anything for them, and the shop was just going to absorb the cost. The customer service here is spectacular, and Paul is easily the best jeweler I've ever dealt with. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for quality service and jewelry. read more

Exceptional customer service. One on one professional service. I have had 2 rings refurbished and the quality of craftsmanship is superb. My rings looked better than when I originally purchased them. (elsewhere) I will go back to The Gem Lab for repairs and for new purchases as the selections are absolutely beautiful!!! read more

My wife and I have been going to the Gem Lab for many years and have always been pleased with the customer service and knowledge of the personnel. It helps me out tremendously that their computer knows what I've purchased in the past so that any new gifts are complimentary to previous items and definitely not duplicates (although gold and diamonds are never out of fashion). i brought a travel clock in thinking it was broken and it was just a battery problem (byw, they don't do watch repairs, but will recommend a watchmaker). While I was waiting for the clock, four salespeople asked if I needed help with anything, so it must be that in a small store they can be overwhelmed with customers at times, but try their best to please. I think their prices are competitive and there always seems to be something new to buy. They do custom work too and are expert at jewelry repairs. I think that since they have been in business for so long shows overwhelming customer satisfaction. read more

Went in with a fairly simple r see quest and was told they lacked the skill to make it happen. Who the neck do they have working here? You also dont get to talk to a jeweler but a salesperson who ferries your half understood requeat back and forth. Skip this relic and heads towards peoples lottery. They are a million times better in every regard. read more

Lovely selection and repairs on the premise. They also do appraisals

Professional, innovative, not in the least bit snooty! Creative, friendly, helpful, so many selections it's tough to decide! Thank you Gem lab for creating new jewelry from my out of date pieces! Recently, my engagement ring got caught in a door and the middle diamond fell out. I was able to recover the diamond, and brought it to the Gem Lab to be fixed. They did an amazing job on my ring and it looks even better than new. It's not the fanciest ring (but it still means the world to me), but they took the time and care to make it look amazing and didn't look down on me for not having the best ring in the place. They even called me after looking it over for a day to suggest a cheaper fix than originally quoted, but a better quality one. They put in stronger, better quality prongs to hold in the diamonds and it really pops better than it ever has before. They also cleaned my wedding ring when I picked up the repair, and said that any time I'm in the area, they would clean my rings for free. If my husband and I ever decide to get jewelry again, we will shop here first. Can't say enough good things about them. read more

I have been going to the Gem Lab since they were in the Sibleys Building in downtown Rochester which is over 35 years ago. This is by far the best jewelry store in and out of town. The quality and selection is amazing and like no other jewelry store I've ever been to. They will custom make anything you ask for also which most places will not do. The people who work there are very professional and caring about your needs and very knowledgeable about their merchandise which is so very important. Joe and Paul Casserino have been doing a wonderful job with their company and its no wonder they have been in business for all these years! I would highly recommend the Gem Lab to everyone! read more

My recent experience with the Gem Lab was far exceeding my expectations. Paul did an excellent job with our apprasil and Cathy was an amazing help with picking our setting and continued customer service. They put my ring together beautifully! And then... I had only had my ring for a few weeks and accidently knocked it pretty hard, I took it back and they fixed me up, free of charge, and within a half hour or so. That's the kind of customer service you just don't come across easily anymore. I've since sent my family and friends to the Gem Lab and will absolutely continue to do business with them in the future! read more

I have been a customer of the Gem Lab for many years and before me my mother trusted them with her most prized positions. When I walk into the Gem lab I am greeted and treated like part of the family. I have had many pieces made and I have always been pleased not only with the craftsmanship but the overall knowledge of what is going to work best for what I want. I have worked with most everyone there and they know me, so when I am undecided of what I want I am guaranteed that when I leave I will have a piece of jewelry that is breath taking. What I love most about the Gem Lab is that it is a family owed business and no matter how busy they are I have never felt rushed or pushed into something. This is truly a business run with pride and most of all honesty. I want to thank Joe, Paul, Laurie and Amy for the many years they have worked with me and made me a very happy person! Trust me when I say that it is worth your while to drive the extra miles to get the service and quality that the Gem Lab offers. Thank you so much for all you do.
