The entire examination cleaning and consultation was excellent! My dental hygienist was Aleia and she did a fantastic job. She was extremely patient and kind. I had a root canal done here three years ago. but the work was subpar and I developed an infection due to the work not being done correctly three years ago. I went in to get checked and was referred to an endodontist. Upon his exam I had to have the root canal redone at the endodontist office. Upon returning to Caffall to have the crown replaced I was hit with a huge surprise billing. After some back and forth they agreed to a small reduction but after all that they would not do the work on the day I had my appointment and I was required to make a new appointment. What a waste of my time, and this was after my appointment was rescheduled (moved back one week) due to staffing issues. This is not just poor customer service but feels more like malpractice, Caffall clearly does not stand behind their work. I highly recommend that you stay away from this practice, if this is how they treat long time customers I hate to think how they treat new ones.

Charges for JUST a ROUTINE CLEANING AND X-RAY: $1,896.00 CAVITY & CROWN: $2,806.00 Total Quoted: $4,702.00 Reporting this practice to the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners STAT. I had scheduled a routine 6 month cleaning with this dentist office and immediately felt scammed and that my pockets were being picked from the second I walked through the front door. I had been a previous customer with them a couple years back and had no issues. I had been seeing another dental office prior to returning this this one, which will be the last time. I have always only needed a routine cleaning and have maintained excellent dental health and my last dental cleaning with x-rays was 6 months prior with NO issues reported. Day of appointment: Immediately upon arrival I was pressured to purchase their in-house dental discount plan. I was told that a routine cleaning costs approximately $450. I was initially SHOCKED as I never had a routine cleaning with x-rays cost that in my life. I asked for itemization of the cost, the receptionist kept referring back to the in-house dental plan and that if I purchased it the cost wouldn't be so high. I had to redirect the receptionist more than once that I wanted to know what the cost was broken down before I consider purchasing any dental plan or receiving any services. She then agreed that I could see the Dental Hygienist for an assessment prior to determining any cost. X-Rays: I was brought back to have x-rays completed. I just had X-rays completed 2 months prior at this office and reminded the lady taking them of this. She looked in my chart and told me the Dr ordered more and that 2 months ago it was not including my entire mouth. At no point was I provided a cost prior to receiving X-rays. I let her complete the x-rays as I had been to this office multiple times and never once had a concern about pricing. Brief review of X-rays with dentist: The dentist had come to inform me soon as I sat in the chair that I had an X-ray and showed a cavity that was too large to fill and would need a crown down... This dentist had told me the same thing a couple years prior. I ended up at the time accepting the service of having a "large" cavity filled and a crown placed costing $1,400 out of pocket (This crown had also popped off within the first year and had to be re-glued). I asked how much time I had before having to have this done before the condition worsens, I was told that it was an emergent need and that it needed to be done the same day. - Keep in mind, I had no sensitivity nor pain and my previous 6 month x-rays including CT scan from a different dental office did not report any issues. The dentist let me know that he would let the receptionist know and that she would work on pricing for me and left the exam room. Dental Hygienist assessment: After the X-rays and brief visit from the dentist, the Dental hygienist who completed my initial assessment had measured my gum pockets (periodontal charting) informed me that I have multiple pockets of a "4" depth and at least a handful of pockets at a "5" depth. There is no way.... I have never in my life ever had more than three total pockets of a "4" depth and zero at a "5" depth. I was VERY alarmed because never had I ever had this part of the assessment cause so much pain as it usually isn't able to be felt at all. I am certain this was an inaccurate assessment completed with improper skills as I could test slight blood after. - Keep in mind, I brush and floss daily and have great dental health. The Dental Hygienist informed me that I would need additional services "Irrigation and Laser", I had never heard of these services before. Receiving the cost: After the Dental Hygienist completed the assessment the receptionist met me while I was in the chair to go over costs. This is when I learned that pictures and x-rays were a $1,200 charge alone and was again pushed to purchase the in-house dental plan as it would be free. I was SHOCKED, I told the receptionist that I have never paid over $200 for a routine dental cleaning including x-rays prior to this. She had then told me that x-rays are always included in the cost of the exam and the office would "eat the charge". The receptionist left and went to the front desk to "see what could be done", a second receptionist returned and told me that X-rays are never included. I ask WHY WASN'T I INFORMED OF THE COST before even having them completed?! Cleaning: After unknowingly owing $1,290 for just X-rays alone before even sitting in the dental chair I opted for ONLY a routine dental cleaning. I questioned the Dental Hygienist's credentials as she couldn't even floss my teeth, it was clear she needed serious skill development. The cleaning lasted 10 minutes, I left feeling less clean than before.

At my last appointment for a cleaning, the hygienist was telling me how dirty my teeth were and told me that I don't brush or floss my teeth. Well, I don't know how I've made it this far in life without brushing my teeth! She made me feel awful about my teeth and made me feel like a disgusting human who apparently doesn't brush or floss. I had a few cavities and made a follow up appt to get them filled. I was given the appt with paperwork stating what teeth would be getting the fillings. It's a good thing I kept that paperwork! I showed up to the appt for the fillings and was told my appt was never made and was never put into the system. Yet I had the paperwork showing otherwise! They took me anyway since it was their mistake, but I was treated as a walk in and made to wait, wait, wait. I had another appointment that I booked 2.5 hours after this one and I had to actually contact the business of my next appointment and notify them that I would be late. And sure enough I was 30 minutes late to my next appointment because of Avalon dental's incompetency. Speaking of incompetence.....approximately 6-8 months after this, I had a dental cleaning at a different dental office and found out that I had a "huge" cavity that Avalon dental missed! It was so large that had it gone any longer I would have needed a crown! The cavity was clearly visible on the x-rays taken at Avalon and they never treated it or informed me of the cavity. One of my family members actually did have a crown placed through Avalon dental and the whole experience was nothing but a nightmare! They told my family member that they ran the paperwork with the insurance company and that the crown was covered. My family member had the procedure and was then hit with a massive bill from the insurance company. Avalon dental never cleared it with the insurance first and said they did! My family member then had to get more medical documentation and basically do Avalon Dental's job for them with submitting required paperwork and documentation to the insurance company to get this covered, which is what Avalon claimed they did, but did NOT! The woman in the office that handles insurance and billing is EXTREMELY RUDE! Called multiple times requesting that we contact the insurance company to pay them. Is that not her job? I contacted the insurance company and per the insurance company, they had 90 days in which to provide Avalon dental with the payment and it would be payed in 90 days. I called and let the insurance/billing lady at Avalon dental know this and she continued to call us MULTIPLE times requesting a check from the insurance company! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Again, this is her job to contact the insurance company....why were we having to do her job for her? Not to mention she continued talking over us on the phone, kept interrupting us multiple times, and would not let us speak! She was calling us up like a bill collector when it was out of our hands. We told you, the insurance will pay you in 90 days! QUIT calling! We QUIT coming to Avalon dental after these incidents. Will not be coming back. EDIT: The business thinks I have the wrong dental business because of my name and location being California. I have the correct business and I was a patient of yours more than once. I travel to the valley here MULTIPLE times per year and have well over 200 reviews for Arizona businesses, including yours. If you took a look at my reviews, check-ins, and photos, you'd know that. I was just in Phoenix this morning. As for my name, this is a variation of my name. Just because it doesn't exactly match my medical record, doesn't mean I was not a patient of this office. Avalon Dental went above and beyond yesterday not only taking care of my dental cleaning with care…read moreand precision, but helping my sister out who was visiting from another state. Alexis did a wonderful job setting my fears to rest making me feel less anxious about my cleaning. Dr. Taryn spent extra time to make sure I was comfortable and everything was going well. Later in the day when my visiting sister's temporary crown fell out we called the office asking for advice on what to do. Dr. Taryn said she'd help us out and reset my sister's crown for us that afternoon! I can't say enough about how caring and thoughtful the whole office is at Avalon.
