I initially came in because I had chipped one of my implant crowns and wanted both front implant crowns remade. Dr. Robert Swanson was very casual about the chip and even suggested simply leaving it as it was. I wanted it repaired properly, and he assured me it would be "no problem." He also told me he worked with a great lab and even stated that the lab was "the most expensive in town."... When it came time to remove my original cemented crowns, Dr. Swanson seemed unsure. I even asked how many times he had removed cemented implant crowns before, and he replied, "Not a lot." Despite that, the temporary crowns they placed were excellent. They fit comfortably, looked natural, and I almost forgot they were temporary. The problems began with the lab visit. Dr. Swanson told me I would work directly with the lab to customize the appearance of my new crowns. Instead, after waiting more than 30 minutes past my appointment despite being the only patient there, I was briefly color-matched and sent on my way with very little discussion. When I returned to preview the finished crowns, they were missing the gum porcelain entirely and were much larger than expected. I questioned the lab because they had color matched my gums during my first visit. After stating it wasn't in the work order, they acknowledged the issue and told me to give them another week to correct it, this was Friday. Surprisingly, by Monday morning, Premier Family Dental called to say the crowns were already finished and ready for placement. That timeline immediately seemed unusual. When I saw the revised crowns, they were extremely bulky. They felt unnatural, interfered with my tongue and bite, and the tooth/gum colors did not match at all. I expressed my concerns before they were permanently placed, but I was told my jaw just needed time to adjust and that I was "hyper fixated" on them. Unfortunately, things only became worse. Within days I developed severe jaw clicking, popping, and discomfort. Over the next two weeks, I returned FOUR separate times for adjustments. Each visit involved grinding the crowns down further until the undersides became uncomfortable yet the problems remained. When I continued asking for the crowns to be remade, Dr. Swanson refused and even tried to tell me I needed a mouth guard for sleeping. During our final conversation, he told me he would not remake them and stated that no one in the practice had the ability or skill set to correct the issue. The practice ultimately refunded the ENTIRE procedure, acknowledging that the crowns would need to be redone elsewhere even though Swanson told me the only way I would get a refund is if I could prove to him I was going to get them re done, which was EXTREMELY unprofessional and unethical to assume I was dining and dashing when they failed me and did terrible work. Since the new crowns were put in I have sought two independent second opinions from other dental providers. Both offices examined the crowns and independently concluded that they were poorly made and would need to be completely remade rather than simply adjusted. Hearing the same conclusion from two separate providers confirmed that the problems were not simply a matter of "getting used to them," but that the crowns themselves were not acceptable and required replacement. As a result of this experience, I am now starting over with another provider and am receiving treatment for significant TMJ symptoms that developed after these crowns were placed. I also received a patient relationship termination letter after requesting that the work be corrected. I would NEVER recommend this office or the work of Robert Swanson based on my experience. What should have been a straightforward replacement of two implant crowns resulted in repeated adjustments, a complete refund, ongoing jaw problems, a very trusting relationship tarnished and the need to have the entire treatment redone elsewhere.

Today I learned we were billed for having 15 teeth worked on for fillings and our $2500 yearly max has been almost exhausted and it's only February. I would recommend parents attend appointments with their teenagers. Ask for their X-rays and get a second opion before you proceed with dental work that is permanent. I am now waiting to take my child back to our other dentist for a 2nd opinion to see what was actually done given this child had a cleaning late August 2024 . I feel a bit concerned much of the work completed and billed may have been unnecessary. Update: I have now learned that it is not legal for a minor to receive medical or dental care without consent of a parent or legal guardian. This to review finding, recommended treatmant plan risks, as well as review and agree to financial obligation BEFORE care is provided. This can only be circumvented for some preventative care and in the case of a medical or dental emergency, which was not the case for us and I was never contacted to consent or review their recommendations.

I went in for permanent implants (I already have existing dentures), and after my initial consultation, I was quoted around $51,000, which was nearly $20,000 higher than other places I had visited. Because of that, I decided not to move forward at first. Afterward, I received multiple calls and texts from their office, and we eventually negotiated a price. We verbally agreed, and they confirmed via text to a flat $32,000, and this included anesthesia. That number was in line with other quotes I had received, so I felt comfortable moving forward and scheduled a follow-up appointment to finalize everything, sign the contract, and make a payment. This is where my experience took a turn. I waited about 20 minutes past my appointment time, and while they did eventually acknowledge the delay, it wasn't until I had already been waiting for a while. During the contract process, they increased the anesthesia cost by an additional $3,500, even though anesthesia had already been included in the agreed-upon $32,000 total. After some back-and-forth, I reluctantly agreed to a revised total of $35,500 just to move things forward. Then things became even more concerning. The billing assistant left the room multiple times and came back with yet another change, an additional $2,500 for a zirconia upgrade. This was especially frustrating because zirconia was the only option we had discussed from the beginning and was part of the original plan. It appeared to have been removed from the revised contract, only to be added back in as an upcharge. At that point, the total had climbed about $6,000 above what we had already agreed upon verbally and via text. That lack of consistency and transparency didn't sit right with me, and I ultimately decided to walk away without moving forward. The phrase healthy teeth is vague and not a meaningful screening standard. A clearer approach would be to directly ask whether a patient has ever been diagnosed with periodontal disease or been told by a dentist that they require deep cleaning or scaling and root planing before booking. In my case I already had that diagnosis, and I would not have scheduled the appointment if that had been CLEARLY asked or explained. I scheduled specifically for a cleaning, completed the exam, and was then told the cleaning would not be performed while still being charged the full fee. The issue is not clinical judgment but that the service being advertised does not clearly match what patients actually receive or under what conditions the cleaning will be denied.

I decided to call Seville Family Dentistry for an emergency booking. We live in the Seville community and I have driven past this clinic before. I called and a lovely receptionist picked up. She said there was no available appointments but would see what she could do. She was empathetic to our situation and offered a lending ear. She managed to get us in with Dr Howie. My parents set off for their appointment. When they got home, they said couldn't fault Dr Howie and highly recommended him. Though there was no immediate solution for my mother, Dr Howie was thorough and gave her some meds to mask the pain until she's back home to possibly see a doctor for nerve pain rather than teeth related. She felt looked after, cared for and respected. I will be going to see Dr Howie for my future dental needs.
