Another company I called just proposed a like-for-like replacement of the boiler and didn't walk through the house. More on that later. After I agreed to the written estimate, which layed out everything that was included, they were onsite in a few days. The crew showed up on time, were quick and efficient, and unbelievably neat. Especially as they were removing a lot of cast iron and piping. As they were working on the water and gas, they kept us informed of what would be off and for how long, which was not very long at all. After the installation was complete (about 12 hours total over two days), their full explanation of what to do to monitor it was clear and very understandable. They even painted all the new plumbing so there was no "raw" piping. Now for the boiler and why a like-for-like replacement was not a good approach. Steam boilers will never be more than 82% efficient which is about what the old one was. The difference in the new boiler, different manufacturer, is it runs for much shorter durations than the old one. The house still heats up as well, but with fewer firings of the boiler. I expect this to be a real savings in gas this winter. All in, I'm very satisfied with the quality, speed, and professionalism of the work, and the hardware they installed. Highly recommend.

This would require opening the wall and would need a tile person too. Cost about $2K. After 2 months of trying to get both, I gave up. I called Cox yesterday and they came today. The technician, Edwin, came by and analyzed our appliances, there were some areas needing very costly repairs/upgrading, but everything was done within a week for both homes. I also needed some major plumbing which was also repaired in a timely manner. I will definitely recommend and use there services again.

I was contacted about the gas meter and installation location, yet days later, after receiving confirmation that my stove was ready, I was informed via text message that installation could not proceed due to basement permit requirements. I completely understand safety regulations and installation protocols. My issue is the lack of communication. These concerns should have been addressed upfront, not after the purchase and arrangements were made. No phone call, no alternative solution, and no meaningful follow-up. Just a text leaving me with a stove sitting at Lowe's instead of being delivered and installed. My advice: Be cautious, ask questions, and get everything confirmed in writing before paying for installation services. Customers deserve better communication and accountability, especially when spending hundreds of dollars.

However, the quality of the arriving technician seems to be crapshoot. The tech is nice, but was unable to fix my issue.... But he did not charge me full price so at least very honest. DO NOT, under any circumstances, use Roto Rooter in Queens New York…read more First, I made SPECIFIC requests for their technician to NOT knock on the door, and rather to call my phone when they arrived - they did not do this and woke up the elderly mother of my landlord at a very early hour. Second, the technician Anthony asked me ONE question about my issue (a clogged shower drain) in which he asked if my toilet flushing causes the shower to clog, which I said no. He DID NOT look in the drain, he DID NOT look in the shower, and then showed me a pricing guide for a quote of $695 plus tax. When I confronted him about why he did not look in the shower, look in the drain, or ask me questions about the shower clog before quoting me a price, he got belligerent in voice and told me "I am the expert, you called me". I've had to have drains snaked before - they cost $100-$200 tops, or $300 in an emergency. Roto Rooter hires unprofessional and uncourteous people, and are predatory in their pricing quotes. Avoid.
