I have an affinity for historic establishments like this one. Mainly one that doubles as a locals only dive bar! Town Pump was brought into this world more than 100 years ago, 1909 to be exact. The name comes from Old Town's manual supply pump to water their horses. It's primary function was a water trough for horses. And now...well...it pretty much serves the same function... It's a beer trough for bar rats! In addition to its place in local history and its amazing name, it's the smallest bar in Fort Collins. Bar seating and a handful of tables. This setting reminds me of a lot of bars you'll find in Europe. Tiny, communal, everyone knows everybody. I came in here alone for one beer. I nestled up to the bar and immersed myself in the local gossip. The folks around me were generally friendly. I acted more as an observer to the Tuesday night rowdiness. Fair prices, cool story, historic business. There's something to be said about a bar that's lasted this long. Maybe we can all learn something worthwhile from the Town Pump! read more

If I could do zero star review I would....this is a review purely for the bouncer. He declines a military id as a valid form of id. When the military men with us FINALLY walked away he called them 'a$$holes'. We went in and had an AMAZING bartender...tipped her accordingly and chose to not spend another dollar here. My favorite (and oldest) watering hole in Fort Collins. This place has been a staple in the community for longer than many of us have been alive. The Town Pump is about as big as a gas station bathroom. I didn't care how small the bar was...this place is awesome! Talking to the bartender, legally the bar can hold 40 people. There seemed to be a small patio for the overflow. My brother and I walked in here while the girls were doing their shopping, and we were glad we found it. Since it was an afternoon, there were only a hand full of people at the bar watching the Sunday football games on the bars three TVs. The bar is decorated with an eclectic mix of crap and witty bumper stickers...all make for a good conversation piece, especially the spotlighted chastity belt. If you think the bar is small, you'll change your mind once you visit the bathroom. Their airplane sized bathrooms are decorated with your typical drunkard chicken scratch. It's amazing how many people piss with pens in their pocket. The Town Pump is a full bar offering a decent selection of local beer. They also offer some good specials as well. If I lived in town I would definitely give the Town Pump several visits, and if I were a CSU student it would be a regular stop. Went in on a Saturday afternoon. The place was small with lots of "regulars" coming and going. It's the oldest bar in Fort Collins local easy-going vibes. Loved the atmosphere and the drinks were good too. Highlight was our bar tender Anne Rose. Such great service and that's saying a lot as she was the only bar tender and the place was pretty busy. She also makes a great bloody if the mood strikes you. Definitely would reccomend if you like chill dive bars that have been around for over 100 years! read more

This tiny bar is a must visit while in Fort Collins. I loved the narrow space (maybe 20 seats total) and the friendly,local atmosphere. Happy hour is 3-8 everyday which included Coors beers and some local pulls. Their drink prices are very reasonable all the time though. We tried the New Belgium Cascadar Quad and a local milk Stout, both of which were great and our tab was under $9. The Wizard of Oz set to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon was running on loop, which was pretty fun. The place was rather dead on a Monday night, but we enjoyed hearing the local banter and sitting back to people-watch. It's nice to find a quaint subsection of the town and enjoy the atmosphere. I had to know somebody that lived in town to take me here and I'm forever thankful he did. Its one of the most memorable times I've ever had because of how friendly the bartender and people in general were when we got there. I keep going back now and there was a time when a Blue Grass band stepped inside because it was cold and asked if they could play. So they did and everyone sitting in the bar got first row entertainment! The Town Pump is in my opinion the best local bar but comes with very limited seating inside. They do however have outdoor seating where you can smoke if you choose to utilize that space. Try the Town Pump Pail beer. O'Dells brewery down the street makes it specifically for the Town Pump. The Town Pump is a tiny tiny bar on College, just north of Mountain. I mean TINY. It fits maybe 10 people. Bartenders are cool and quick with the drinks. Alone on the small patio, we were asked if our dog was barking outside....we said multiple dogs had walked by and they all interacted together and some barked. The employee said the bark was persistently the same, accusing our dog of barking too much on the outdoor patio..... Be kind, Town Pump. You are a long time establishment in a dog friendly community. This is a great little bar nestled in the heart of Fort Collins, emphasis on little. Being from out of town, I was not sure what to expect, but I loved my time in this bar steeped in Colorado culture, surrounded by local Fort Collins folks. The highlight, other than the selection of local beets, is that they serve Town Pump Pale, a beer from Odell's Brewing Company that is only available there--I advise a pint or 3. Services was friendaly, if a little slow (the place was packed and there was one bartender), but the atmosphere made up for it, so I would definitly advise a stop in if you are in town. All the prices is super affordable, and I have hear that they have a Happy Hour from 3-8 daily, so I will be going back to check it out. read more

After a long day of business travel and finding myself in Fort Collins I have to say, this place was the highlight of my evening! Not only is the place chalk full of character, they have a great beer selection (new Skinny Dip is AWESOME) and staff is friendly, crowd is open and even though was a complete stranger -- totally felt like my neighborhood joint in Chicago. Make sure and put on your brave face for the Cherry Bombs which are soaked in Everclear, also available booze soaked oranges. Affectionately known as the Twin Pimp! Love this spot! They DOUBLED the size by adding a meager patio in the alley, so now almost 25 people can be 'here' at once! They always have solid local brew options, a fun and chill vibe, and people coming and going. I was lucky enough to grab a table right by the actual pump and enjoy a couple pints recently. The facade has had a face lift in recent years, but all the classic crap is still covering every square inch of this place! There is even a Yoda chillin atop the bar. Here is another point in which I wish I could give half stars cause this place isn't 4 stars and isn't 3 stars, but rather about a 3 1/2... I like this place, but could never be a regular because of two reasons, one it is too small, which is half of its charm. The second reason is that they do not take cards, it is a cash only bar. I hate that, it is soooooo dumb that any business does not take cards these days. Yeah sure they have an ATM in there, great, now you are taking an extra 2-3 dollars from me... Also this place has the smallest, most awkward bathrooms ever! OK, so there is the bad, here is the good. It is a cute place with awesome people who work there. Also I love their jello shots and their atomic cherries! Half the time I go there is just to drop in and have a jello shot and some cherries, the other half is cause friends want to go there, but it is almost always just for a drink. I think everyone has already summed this place up, but here's my 2 cents as well... First visit to Fort Collins and the first bar we go to is this one and it was awesome. Great atmosphere, very small, but cozy and friendly, it's 103 years old and has the smallest bathroom ever according to the bf. Don't forget to bring cash since it's "cash only" and be prepared to chill and have some good beer. Happy Hour is 3-8 pm and there are specials along the rear wall, our beers were only $3 each. This is a drinking only place, no food is served which is fine by me. Although cozy, it had seating along the bar, at little tables and bar stools to sit and look out the front window and be a people watcher. Also, this place has it's own Town Pump Pail Ale by Odell's so we made sure to have one since you can't find it anywhere else and it was a tasty one. That may sound a bit harsh, but hanging with the entertaining bartenders and regulars at the Pump on a weekday afternoon knocking back ice cold Town Pump Pail Ales (which is an ODell beer you can only get there, btw) is pretty close to a perfect day. It may be the size of a closet but what it lacks in space, it makes up for in character. The staff is always friendly and there isn't a night where the room isn't filled with fun, happy people.
