Food and drinks are inexpensive but so good, you'll be back. I went to CSU, moved away, then back in 1998. I've been a faithful patron here ever since. So, having done the math... 27 years. This place is a dependably awesome establishment that never lets me down. Great beers & shots for about $4. Delicious wings, burgers, and deep fried (you name it). $3 basket of homemade potato chips with ranch is outstanding for the price!! First there is no "service" you order at the bar and they came out one time with the food which is fine for a bar/tavern; however, the POS terminal prompted me for 30% tip which I found amusing as there really wasn't any service. For refills of our cokes we had to go to the bar, for one to-go containers we had to go to the bar and the attitude was that we were bothering them. We ordered a hamburger chicken tenders, and fish and chips. The hamburger was good. The chicken tenders (half) were good the other half were about 1/8" thick if that, literally breading no chicken and the fish and chips was completely burnt. Beers are cheap. Cheapest I've found in Colorado. I love it. If I lived in Fort Collins I'd come here all the time. There's a good range of beers and bar snacks. I was waiting for an Uber outside when I heard a staff member call a woman a b****. The staff member was upset that the woman was waiting inside for her Uber so he kicked her out while insulting her. I was pretty shocked and asked why did he call her that and he said because she is a b****. Another staff member came and said " call the cops if you're upset." I wasn't sure how to respond and he quickly closed the door. I understand that the staff may want to leave before closing time but to insult people while doing so is extremely disrespectful. read more

They're served with ranch and ketchup. They're bomb with the ranch. Pretend it's calorie free and eat an order by yourself. Then, just $6 for a pitcher of PBR, we'll take it! They have skee ball so I was a happy gal - machine takes dollar bills. Play against a friend and get all the points. I could have manned that game all night. We also played pool (like chumps), but the bar wasn't too crowded and it was fun to do while drinking beers and enjoying happy hour. We also played a couple games of competitive Pac Man, which is different from the normal game. You can battle up to three other people. The dark exterior doesn't do much to indicate the interior that's laden with wood and very typical tavern. On top of that being a college town, whatever your stereotypical idea of a college tavern / bar is? This place personifies it. Grab whatever seat you can get and mosey on up to the bar to grab your drinks as there are no staff that walk around to take your orders. Only to clean up the empties. Speaking of which the idiot that was doing it at our table nearly spilled a nasty mix of liquids on a couple of us due to his incompetent comprehension. You see if a glass has liquid in it and you stick another glass into it, that forces the liquid out of the first glass. I want to go check this place out and I'm very disappointed I did. I'm new to area just here for work and they made me feel I'm not good enough to spend money there. I really went to shoot pool because it's a hobby of mine. Didn't find one acceptable cue available and I'm open minded on what I can shoot with. Tips missing on multiple cues and literally fell off when I took a shot. I asked for help trying to rig up the best cue to make due. Security had no time for it and said it's broken and yaked it from me and said it's broken can't use it. That was the point and I want to to try with it at least but they basically said goodbye to me and security decided to talk behind my back and make me feel like I'm trash and not to come back. I'm half Ecuadorian and im different so if not completely normal to staff I would not just roll in to see what it's like. I have always loved Trailhead Tavern, the bartenders are genuine and kind, they work at a high volume bar, so they always have to be on it. Unfortunately the front door guy, Joey, always seems to ruin the good mood. He has been there for years, yet has a very cold and rude demeanor. I know every restaurant/bar in Fort Collins is struggling during these times but the least you could do is make the patrons feel welcome. Very surprised that nothing has been done about Joey, as I am very aware that I am not the first. I went to college at Front Range Community College and Colorado State University for years but at the time I enjoyed being by myself. On the other hand I also feel that Fort Collins can be a socially isolating place where people socialize in small little groups and it is difficult to get into them. At any rate when one has the honor to have some hard earned college buddys what else can you do on the weekend but go out and drink in a town like this, right? The Trailhead is just such a place. Where college friends go out to drink. The atmosphere is your typical college hangout and has been a long time establishment in Oldtown for years. It falls short a little on character but that is what you are supposed to bring to such a place and watch the never ending cycling of different sports on the large television sets. They also serve food here and it is reasonably priced. Last night was my first night here and the set up here confused me. There are no wait staff here and if you want a beer, you go to the bar and order one. You want food? You go up to the bar and order it. The food then comes prepared in a window just down from the bar. On a busy night like last night it took fifteen minutes for the food to arrive, maybe longer. I went back three times from the table my friends and I were seated at just to make sure my tacos were not sitting there, getting cold. The tacos themselves were ok. Nothing authentic or new to offer. They are good to eat as a snack and fresh enough and quite a few notches up from fast food tacos. The beer is fairly priced as well. Most of the beers they had on tap last night were beers from New Belgium. I got the NB Snow which was a dark beer. It was ok but not my favorite they put out. Trailhead is perfect for college students and the dive bar scene. My expiration date as a college student has long since passed and I only occasionally like dive bars. Preferably my favorite kind of dives are the kinds of bars you go into and it looks like you walked in to the Mos Eisley Cantina where you can people watch all night at all of the odd characters and maybe be one yourself. Not so much the case here. You got to go to the big cities for that. So in addition to that and my other points, Trailhead gets an "A-OK" rating. read more

The Trailhead Tavern is quickly becoming one of my favorite bars in town. The crowd is a less "collegey" than most of the other places around Old Town and the interior is also super laid back and true to its tavern name. Yes, it may be a little dirty or grungy, but I prefer that to uptight and pretentious. They have a ton of local brews on tap and they are pretty well priced. Make sure to check out the drink specials because they are definitely worth it! I'm also becoming quickly addicted to the Bacon and Cheddar Trailhead burger and fries. The burgers are large, the bacon is crispy, and they sure don't skimp on the fries, and all of this only for $6.50! If you want just a snack, the cheese fries are delicious and the perfect food to compliment some beers. Hot Tip: Wednesday nights they have Geeks Who Drink Trivia, though I probably shouldn't be telling you this because it already packed those nights. They also have $2 New Belgium on Wednesdays which is super awesome! With those prices, I've been able to get a burger and 2 beers for just $10! read more

This is a medium-sized bar for fort collins. Locals hang out here and they have great beer deals. On Tuesday-1.50 PBR. They have an okay-outdoor drinking area and 3 pool tables. We came here late night for their buy one get one free burger deal. oh my goodness. Bacon cheddar burger. Let's be honest, I had to be a little bit tipsy to choose that platter of health. It was delicous. Their FRIES are some of the best I ever had. More like a steak fry, beer battered and brown and crispy. I had to eat every. last. bite. I've been frequenting the Trailhead on Wednesday nights for the "Geeks Who Drink" trivia night. Fun times! It was become a fun little ritual to go get a burger and wings and a couple beers on a Wednesday night. (Bacon Cheddar Burger = good, hot wings = good, $1.50 PBR = great, $2.00 local brews = awesome!) The bar and kitchen staff seem nice, and there are pool and video games in the back. I only have 2 complaints...1) the 2 urinals in the bathroom are WAY too close together...you're practically rubbing elbows if someone else has to go at the same time you are...but it makes for some funny, awkward conversations I suppose. 2) If you sit in the booths on the west side of the bar when the heater comes on, it feels like you're being dry-roasted. Every single person I talk to about eating at the Trailhead mentions their bacon cheese burgers. It would be a crime to review a different menu item. The Bacon Cheddar Trailbuger is comprised of (as quoted by the Trailhead on their website) "one third pound lean, tavern seasoned patty, topped with bacon and cheddar cheese served on an onion-Kaiser bun with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, and mustard. This mouthful comes with beer battered Idaho fries from France and a pickle." Idaho fries from France. That's awesome. Really, this burger is as basic and bare-bones as it gets. It's an average bar burger. I've had better and I've had worse. But, you certainly can't beat the price. It's decent enough, and tastes even better when you wash it down with a beer. During our lunch, I had my first New Belgium Mighty Arrow of the season. Mighty Arrow and a bacon cheddar Trailburger for just a handful of cash? Sounds like a classic Fort Collins lunch to me. You can't expect French Fries in a place that serves beer-battered Idahoans, just like you can't expect a nice selection of wine in a place that is known for serving cheap PBR. But what you can expect is something consistent in a Fort Collins locals' favorite watering hole. read more

The mix of local drinkers and sports fans, all looking for a no-nonsense good time, makes Trailhead a great place to catch a game or just relax and grab a couple of drinks. Atmosphere: The dimly lit ambiance doesn't do justice to one of the largest and most popular dive bars in Fort Collins. When walking through the front door, we were assaulted by a collection of beer, art-work and outdoorsy memorabilia strewn from the ceiling and covering the walls. They have a great projection TV set-up, combined with Flat screens all in good viewing angles, so we could catch any big game. Service: We experienced good old fashioned bar service with a random cocktail waitress here and there. Drinks: With a fully stocked bar and 14 beers on tap, Trailhead had us covered. If you prefer a girly drink with fruit and swords, you may be in the wrong place. The chalkboards and signs around the bar area should answer all your questions on pricing as well as present daily drink specials. Food: Trailhead offers mostly average bar fair, but at a great price. When we're eating out and on a budget, we usually give the daily special a go. Filthy, broken, doors don't even shut, much less lock, no mirror, no paper towels, no soap, no tp, and so centrally located you might as well just drop trow in the center of the bar, everyone can see anyway.
