Actually, the fact that this place exists as a sole entity nestled amongst a village of about 1500 is probably a blessing for both visitors and locals. Apparently the residents in the viscinity of the ski lodge voted to keep the place alcohol free, but that could someday change. In the meantime, the Mansion is well serving of your alcoholic and munchie needs and at a much more reasonable price than standard resort fares. It's a small location despite its name, with a handful of tables and bar space. The bartender mentioned they have additional seating that opens at certain times or for large parties perhaps. Closed Sundays and Monday's, opens around 4 pm on Tuesday. We showed up around 5:30 pm, and it was freezing inside. It has been a warmish winter day, but I was grateful I kept my ski gear on. They turn the heat up for the week when they reopen, and it's an old building so it takes some time to rewarm. The bartender is awesome-incredibly friendly, prompt, down to earth. Easy to talk to, whether he acknowledges that gift or not I can't be sure. I'd come back just to hang out with him. The blackboard outside the bar read "Everyone makes us happy-some when they arrive, some when they leave :)" which may sum up his personality better than trite observations from a brief, casual encounter. In any case, he makes the place worth visiting. Their drink and food selection is more than adequate, though not particularly diverse in its range, but still offers something for everyone. Beers and bloody Mary's were our drinks, and the Bloody Mary had a quality mix. I added their hot sauce (something Cajun) to make it as spicy as I like. They were well mixed and went down easy. We split fried pickles, onion rings, and chicken tenders. There was enough for us 3 to have one or two pieces of each. The fried food was good! Standard bar fare, but still higher end ingredients. You can sometimes just tell it's not GFS, but something better. The pickles were full pickles, not the sliced chip variety. They had a couple salads, a BLT and burger on the menu as well. If you are a tired skiier, a local art school kid, a townie in need of a buzz, or a traveler weary from your time on the road, come here and refresh your mind and body with fine spirits from the Mansion.

The drive is beautiful, especially on a sunny day in the fall. The leaves are incredible. As you're driving winding roads along Wills Creek, Hillbilly Haven pops out of nowhere. You'll see plenty of pick-up trucks, four-wheelers and side-by-sides. What you get: is an absolutely quintessential dark, country, dive bar. Beloved by locals, they have pool tables, a small live music and dance area inside and a really nice outside area in the back. You'll meet some of the nicest people. Just remember-it is a local country bar and when in Rome... Here's the big draw-oh my goodness, the food! People come from miles away to get take-out. The wings are perfectly seasoned no matter the sauce/rub, juicy but crisp. The Hillbilly Deluxe burger puts a Big Mac to shame. The smoked meats are done on site by people who really know what they're doing. If you're looking for a Saturday or Sunday road trip on a pretty day and some terrific food, find Hillbilly Haven. The Barn of Harpers Ferry - Great little bar, well-stocked, skilled, fast and friendly

Great music! Excellent whiskies and beers. Ambiance like a really nice barn :-)…read more We wanted a Memorial Day (2025) daytrip from greater-Baltimore. Harper's Ferry is very close! Like an hour (ish) drive. So what's happening in HP? The Barn out Washington St. had a MemorialDay weekend all-day mostly-country music event 2pm to 10:30pm! Very nice. They have a great little bar inside, and sometimes have food from one of the restaurants across the parking lot, or just walk over for takeout, or i think i read that they deliver here. By the way, parking can get a little tight for a bigger event like this one, but we were early enough, maybe 1pm, and we scored a space when someone left. I might as well add that there's several clean restrooms sort of across from the bar. We settled into a huge comfy couch near the back of the hall, behind the seating for roughly 30 at tables and picnic tables. There was also seating for roughly 20 at tables out on a deck. The first solo singer-guitarist, D.C.'s Kate Smiles, had a lovely voice and sweetly original interpretations of rock and pop and country songs that i knew, and a presence that made me say, Hey, Wow, I can relax in this mellow mood with a really nice whiskey from a list that my local bar would envy. By the way, they were out of the local whiskey, Devil's Due, so i had a warming fiery oaky slightly-sweet Elijah Craig bourbon, neat, with a water back. Mmmmm. The second musician, W.V.'s Andrew Copenhaver, moved among soulful blues and country, some classics, some modern. He could put an edge on his voice, and he could hit some deep bass notes, so it was a real pleasure when he gave us Folsom Prison Blues. When you can hit that low note, you have a right to do some Johnny Cash. By now i was into some crisp local beers. That little bar really has everything, including a versatile bartender who made every drink we knew, and we sampled his skills as the third musician, NoVA's Mark Cullinane, took the stage. He had a wide range of country songs, including a moving original that made us feel we were driving in our pickup behind his dad's. He had a great rich tone and great range. Like the second musician, he used some kind of looper to create full layers of harmony. What with all the beverages, we started to fade a little as the music moved into the set by NoVA's seriously-country Rowdy Ace Band around 8pm. They really lit up the hall and the patio and probably a good piece of nearby Harpers Ferry. We eventually moved on to our reservations for dinner across the parking lot at Snallygaster's restaurant. But that's another story. We had a terrific afternoon and evening. The Barn will definitely be one of our go-to spots in this town, and we'll be looking to hear these musicians again!

However, I'm terrible about keeping secrets. Plus, especially in this challenging business climate, local shops need all the support they can get. If you are a beer lover who enjoys rare and aged bottles of hard to find or out of production beers, this unassuming spot has a remarkable and delightful selection of brews I never expected to stumble upon in a tiny Pennsylvania town. Part of me wanted to buy everything and find a way to schlep it all back to Michigan. Instead, I chose to just get what I could enjoy on this trip, and save the other bottles for those fortunate souls who might learn of the treasures that await inside. I got: The latest vintage (2020) Bourbon County Barrel Stout, but the Kentucky Fog variant which I had never seen before. It was the best BCBS I've had to date. A large format bottle of Goose Island Halia from 2016 which was simply delightful! It was drinking perfectly, and I was tempted to go back and see if they had any more. A large format bottle of Goose Island Lolita from 2016, which was also drinking well, and was a pure pleasure with the integrity of the raspberries holding up to the years. A New Belgium La Folie from 2017, which I had the chance to try back in 2017, so it was super fun to taste a funkier version of it with more years in the bottle. The Smuttlabs Brett & I may not have held up quite so well since its 2016 bottling. Most of the carbonation had dissipated. That said, its brightness was the perfect pairing for some charcuterie back at the family farm. Similarly the Wild Devil Brett IPA from Victory Brewing, aged in red wine barrels, didn't quite hold up as well to the years. However, it was still fun to drink. But I didn't even scratch the surface. I asked the bartender if I could take a snapshot of the beer list to show my friends in case they wanted additional bottles. She said yes. And since I consider so many folks in the Yelp Community to be my friends, here it is. Hopefully I can make it back to Bedford in December. All I ask is that you leave me a couple of bottles so I can try some more rare and old beers without having to stand in line with the bearded masses of craft beer chasers. The weird gray market of beer trading is just not my scene.
