First try at Tout Les Jours. Saturday morning around noon. The shop was organized well, clean and new, to be expected. The staff seemed pleasant and softspoken, so staff need to be a little more assertive. The bakery items were very good. However the restock was a shambles, the hot cases keeping the pastries fresh and warm were ransacked and empty. There were options, but for opening honeymoon period, way too many empty cases. As a chain restaurant, it's very good. The pastries are not made on site, they are baked fresh, but they are foodservice freezer packed. Perhaps the bread itself is made on site, will have to return and try that next time. Could have been five stars if the stock was maintained, but also, popular items so it is understandable. read more

When I was in town for a brief moment, I was so surprised and happy to see a Tous les Jours in Portage. We have a lot in my area (among other Korean pastry shops), but it was so rare to see it in my old hometown. Since my mom still lives there, I wanted to check it out to see if she can now find her favorite pastries locally instead of waiting to visit me. So we went in and it was very busy. Happy to see they're doing well. I like that they give you a plastic glove to handle the tongs and wax paper to lay down on your box. But when I was looking for any familiar Korean pastries, they were really hard to find. The closest were the Kimchi croquette and soboro. I asked if they had red bean and was told not at the moment and it was TBD if they would have it again. I get it. It's not a super popular flavor, but was still disappointed. As for the remainder of the selection, I guess you could say it leaned more forwards French or American than any sort of Korean influence. Due to the limited selections, I'm not sure if I would return when in town again unless it's to pick up a cake, which did look like the types we have by me. So the lines move extremely slow. Not sure if there's a better way to expedite this process. But they have two registers and it just didn't move quickly enough. I don't think this was the fault of the workers or systems, but more so that people didn't seem to know what to order even though they literally had 10 minutes to decide while waiting in this long queue. This can be quite frustrating. Also the parking lot gets pretty jammed as this seems like the new and popular spot. read more

Second time I visited. First time I waited 30 minutes in line with two people in front of me. This time they canceled a birthday cake order I had made online the night before five minutes after my schedule pick up time. Delicious, great quality food, but terrible systems and team leadership. This is THE kind of bakery I've been looking for Everything about Bakery Cafe feels high quality, cozy, and beautifully done. The place itself is super clean, organized, and gives such a lovely European vibe. The food? Absolutely top notch. This is what I personally call a REAL bakery. We tried the beef sausage pastry, the cheese pastries, and the macarons, and honestly everything tasted incredible. The pastries tasted fresh, buttery, rich, and very high quality. The macarons especially were AMAZING... soft, flavorful, and almost tasted like freshly made ice cream. So unique and delicious. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming, and the service overall was great. Prices are reasonable too, some items are slightly on the expensive side, but honestly the quality makes sense. The only downside is how unbelievably crowded it gets, and the food sells out VERY early. If you don't go in the morning, there's a big chance you won't find much left. I really hope they increase production or maybe even open another branch in the future because people clearly LOVE this place already. I was very disappointed when I tried this place out a couple weeks ago with my daughter. We went there around 1:30 and there was barely any food in the cases for us to choose from, it was very busy, and the cashier didn't seem to hear me when I placed my order. I asked for four macaron and told her the four different flavors I wanted. She charged for 16 of them and gave me one of the flavors and proceeded to get the rest when I told her. Oh no, I just wanted four total. We also ordered one drink for my daughter. After giving me a typical teenage girl look that I've seen on many of the girls in the city of Portage, I was supposedly issued a refund which I did not see. We waited several minutes when our order number was called for my daughter's drink, and when I went to the counter, it wasn't there. After a few employees walked by several times, and even looked at us,, I had to flag one down and ask where the drink was. The girl said that order was canceled. I told her that I paid for it and would like the drink. She proceeded to turn around and pick up the drink from a dirty counter behind her with cleaning products all around it and handed it to me (with yet another rude look on her face). If a place is going to employ rude teenage girls, maybe do an in-service about how to treat customers. We will not be going there again. read more

I've been waiting for 15 years for a boulangerie or a patisserie to move into Portage/Kalamazoo, but sadly this one has dashed my expectations. It is only their first week, and I expected some bumps, but I have been in 3 days at 3 different times and each time, they are sold out of just about everything. It is constantly crowded inside despite nothing to buy. I don't have a critique for the food because of how bad the fumble for this opening week has been. It's like going to Popeyes chicken and they're all out of chicken. The demand has greatly demolished the expected supply and is leaving most guests empty handed other than maybe a single croissant for all their time spent trying to grasp at straws to get something at TLJ. The worst thing that personally bumped my rating down was that I ordered a cake on a Monday for Mothers day, the triple mousse cake by two of the girls (which the servers are very nice), let me pick from a laminated menu and asked me when I wanted to pick it up. Saturday, when I went to pick it up, they were confused and said they don't take cake orders, and were in a panic from taking drink orders (because all the bread was sold out except a handful of donuts), so it took them a little over 30 minutes to get it sorted out and they finally gave me the WRONG cake, the vanilla cake, saying they don't even sell the triple mousse cake. I wouldn't have minded the wait if I at least got the right cake for mothers day, but they couldn't offer me any thing other than a stressed out apology. Summary: I eventually did get a donut on one of the days and it was good, but I was disappointed they were literally out of everything else. With how woefully under-prepared a place like this is, I cannot express enough how I cannot recommend going yet, as they are way too underprepared to handle the volume. read more

Service was extremely slow. There were only 2 people ahead of us. The staff seemed more concerned about chatting amongst themselves. We were in a rush and grabbed coffee and pastries to go. My latte had zero coffee in it. My daughter is lactose intolerant and requested oat milk. We are almost positive hers was made with whole milk. She has been suffering all night and all day.
