We used to visit this Tous Les Jours in Chinatown every Sunday before the pandemic.  Now, we visit whenever we are in the area, although our visits are not as frequent.  The French-Korean bakery chain offers a wonderful variety of pastries, breads, and cakes.  I have tried many of them over the years and are happy with their quality and taste, although they are on the pricey side. Our most recent visit was on a Friday with a friend.  It was comfortably busy, unlike weekends when they are packed. I was happy to see that they have also added more seating, making it more inviting for customers who want to sit down and enjoy their pastries and drinks. My daughter was looking forward to her favorite Chocolate Chip Croissant, while I was hoping to get their Matcha Bread with Matcha Cream Filling. Unfortunately, neither was available, so we assumed they had simply sold out. This location is usually well-stocked, so that was a surprise.  Later, I found out on their online menu that they don't offer these items anymore, which was a disappointment.  Next time we will find something else to try, as there are so many items to choose from. I was glad that our friend found something that she liked, and happily showed her tray to me with some milky bread and pastries.  I have to mention about their wonderful cakes.  I have tried their Blueberry Yogurt Cake and recently the Mango Cloud Cake at my sister's birthday party, and liked them both.  The mango cream and cloud cream of the Mango Cloud Cake are light and not too sweet; the cake is moist and fluffy.  Their cakes make a perfect sweet ending to a big meal.  We were on cloud 9! read more

Tous Les Jours was such a nice surprise. It's in the middle of Chinatown, but the moment I walked inside, it felt like I've stepped into a cozy French-style bakery. The display cases are filled with beautiful pastries, the smell of fresh coffee fills the air, and everything just feels warm and inviting. It's a nice little change of pace from everything happening outside. The staff was super friendly too and greeted us with a smile as soon as we walked in. I ordered the Caramel Almond Pastry, and wow... it was perfection from the very first bite. The pastry was incredibly flaky, with thin buttery layers that shattered just enough with every bite before melting in your mouth. The caramel filling was smooth, rich, and had that deep buttery sweetness. Then the sliced almonds added the perfect crunch along with a light roasted, nutty flavor that balanced the sweetness beautifully. The caramel and almonds together tasted like they were made for each other. I'll definitely be back to try more pastries because if this one was any indication, they know exactly what they're doing. read more

Tous Les Jours is always worth a visit when we are in Chinatown. Make sure to get there early for the best selection because it's really busy and pastries go quickly! On our most recent visit, I grabbed a slice of mango cloud cake and one of blueberry cloud cake too. The cloud cakes are my favorite thing here. The cake is impossibly soft and fluffy but not too sweet, brightened by the fresh fruit. I also got two soft breads, banana and honeydew. Honeydew is one of my favorite flavors and it so rarely makes an appearance, so I was really happy with this. I also got a cream cheese cranberry bun. This is another favorite. It's really soft and not too sweet with a huge amount of a cheesecakey filling on the inside. Grab a tray when you walk in and a pair of tongs and add what you want to your tray, and hand it all over at the register. read more

What an interesting stop in Chinatown! Was not expecting this French-Asian bakery to taste so good. They have classic fluffy bread with original flavors and some asian flavors as well. They have multiple types of pastries, the savory ones were so flakey and garlicy. The pan au chocolate was also buttery and had high quality tasting chocolate, bet it would taste even better warmed up but couldn't resist it. Got to try their matcha here and even when I asked for sugar, none was added so it killed the matcha for me as it was watery too. The chocolate strawberry I tried though was soooo delicious. Came here on a weekday afternoon and I was glad it wasn't busy. I got a coffee flavored bun and a chocolate tart. The bun was hard and stale, but the tart was delicious. Ordered a matcha tiramisu latte which was just okay, didn't taste any tiramisu flavor at all. But I really liked the design of the coffee cup lid. Smooth and perfectly curved! The service could definitely be better, especially the person making the drinks. The restroom was not neat. A homeless man was joining tables randomly making the patrons uncomfortable. Tous Les Jours is a wellknown name, but I had never tried this staple in Asian French bakeries. Walking in, the elegant bakery felt like every traditional Japanese French shop, much like the ones you would find in Japan. The classic cloud cake is truly a cloud-- I tried the blueberry version, hesitant that it might be too sweet or worse, artificial, but it was delicious! The cream could be lighter but it didn't have too much of a leftover oil taste and every bite went by so fast I was left feeling like the cloud cake had melted away in my mouth like a dream. Great puff pastries. Light whipped cream, not too sweet. Location in China Town Chicago, Illinois! They had a whipped matcha cream bread topped with matcha powder that was DELICIOUS. If you have to use the restroom, you must pay for your food and the code is on the receipt. Punch in the code on the door and it should open. $4-5 per pastry. Sweet and savory treats available! Cakes, macarons, teas, lattes, coffee available. It was pretty busy 2 hours after opening (10am). Either many of the loaves were gone or sold out quick! I would go here all of the time, but today is the last day. The workers were playing with the "Natasha" doll. It's a dark skinned baby doll that you take your stress out on. If I'm being generous, maybe they dont know the racial implications, and how damaging that can be for another Black person to come across. The doll became pretty popular in Hong Kong and China. It later became international news because of the violent videos of people beating, stretching, and even BOILING the doll to "relieve stress". The Natasha dolls come in many other skin tones, but people deliberately buy the darker skinned ones to beat them up and abuse them. Like wtf, why do you get enjoyment out of using a Black BABY as a stress toy? Like yall are adults, use your head. Things like this is how violence against Black people slowly becomes acceptable in society. I can hear it now, "It's just a toy", "Black people always play the victim". Look, we don't live in a vacuum. This has real life consequences. It perpetuates the narrative of violence on Black bodies, Black BABIES. It shows how deep violence and hate towards Black people is normalized in the minds of those who aren't Black. I'm angry and hurt. More so, because I feel crazy that I have to even explain this, yet I feel conflicted to blame the workers and potentially risk their jobs. But ffs, this just shows how much other POC can dehumanize each other. This is the result of not teaching Black/African history, even on a global scale. I'm sick and tired. Definitely bought a lot of cakes from here over the years for all sorts of events - they make it super easy with the fun decorated cakes suitable for every occasion. I will say the self service model feels a little sad due to food and safety regulations - perhaps COVID related. I do miss the times when you could go into a bakery and just grab items without them being individually wrapped. I am unsure on the parking situation, but there was plenty of foot traffic. --Ambiance-- Bakery was full of pastries where it was difficult just to walk by one another because the row are super tight, but there was a lot of choice in pastries. There was seating in the rear if you want to sit and relax and enjoy your food. --Service/Staff-- The staff are friendly and quickly checked you out or placed your coffee order. It's unfortunate that there is an up-charge for non-dairy alternatives; it's $1.50 extra which is steep for the up-charge compared to many cafes. The place is cute and modern. It was quiet for middle of the day and on a Monday. Lots of variety and choices to choose from. I placed an order for a cake. I liked that there are different sizes. He was curt when I ordered which I didn't mind because I get that everyone has his days. But when I asked for the bathroom code, he told me very rudely and loudly that the code was on the receipt. I've been a fan of this bakery for over a decade, having visited locations in Texas, California, and Illinois. Their pastries are consistently high quality, not overly sweet but a bit pricey. They have a rewards program though I've noticed it's inconsistently honored depending on the store, which can be a little frustrating. Randomly came across this place while wondering around Chinatown. They have so many unique food items in here. I decided to opt for the mango donut & custard bun. The flavor on the mango donut tastes just like a fresh mango. It doesn't taste artificial at all. The custard bun had a lovely sweet taste to it. You can definitely tell these items are made often with quality ingredients & tons of mastery behind them. They had so many different flavors that next time I will definitely be trying more.
