Visiting our daughter so decided to try something a bit off campus. We love Korean and Bimibop so Toto's seemed like a good choice. We are a bit spoiled with a local Korean place, but this was pretty good. The Bimibop had nice flavor but wasn't cooked in a stone bowl. The beef rice bowl was good but didn't have a ton of flavor. I walked here from campus on a rainy day and it was totally worth it. When you walk up you realize how tiny the place actually is and its kind of endearing. The place is really cozy, I decided to eat outside on the patio as it sprinkled. They also sell some snacks and frozen goods you would find at an Asian grocer. Firstly, the prices here are amazing. I spent a little under $20 dollars and I got a large bowl of Jjam-Ppong Ramen and Bugolgi Kimbap. It also came with a side of Kimchi and Macaroni Salad. The food came out relatively quick despite there being maybe one staff member there at the time. The Jjam-Ppong Ramen was great! The noodles had the perfect amount of chew and there was a decent amount of seafood in the dish considering it was only about $9. It was also the perfect amount of spice, I think even those who don't like spicy food could manage with this one. The Kimbap was also really good and had refreshing flavor with the pickles and veggies. The cheese was a nice addition. Overall I totally recommend this place. The quality for the price is amazing here, and the atmosphere is cute as well. One of my favorites in Bloomington. read more

I have great memories here! :) I really love getting the bulgogi kimbap, but any kimbap is great here! The owner works so hard and she is so kind! They also have a section for Korean snacks and products which is new and nice! The place is a bit small but there are tables to come and have food here. I ordered the tofu bibimbap for take out and was pleasantly surprised by the excellent presentation, quantity of food, and delicious flavors. They even added the extra sides like kimchi and macaroni salad that often are offered when you dine in. This place is small and usually has only one person putting together the dishes, so if they're extra busy, there might be a bit of a wait. However, it only took about 15 minutes from waiting to order to receiving the food despite it being a one-person show. And I saw that multiple orders were being filled at once. That to me speaks efficiency! Even better, they're being COVID- cautious with masks and reduced indoor seating down to sanitized pens. I'd recommend this place time and time again. read more

The service was a bit slow but I think there was only 3 people working. The place is like at an apartment complex which was kind of confusing at first. Finally got around to trying out Toto's Uncle and it was good! Decided to check them out while most of the students are out of town for Winter break, since the interior has limited seating. Called first to make sure they were open, many Bloomington restaurants close during the holiday break. Not as difficult to find as some reviews mentioned. The location reminded us of C-3 Bar, basically it's in the middle of a big apartment/condo complex. Plenty of parking just outside the door. I ordered the chicken teriyaki cup bap (rice bowl) and my partner ordered the seafood udon with bonito broth. We also talked to the counter-person about a couple of the rice cake dishes. She was very friendly and extremely helpful. Our food came out within ten-fifteen minutes and was piping hot. We were pleased that the portions were large enough to share. The bowls they use are nice, no styrofoam or plastic. Even the silverware seemed to be a better quality than most small restaurants. It was a pleasant surprise. I really enjoyed the teriyaki. The flavor was good and the chicken was high quality, no mystery meat. It had mushrooms in it which was unexpected and added to the flavor of the dish. My partner enjoyed her Udon very much. It was full of shrimp and scallops and very tasty. We bought a bottle of water before we realized that they have free water over by the condiment area, just fyi. We were too full to order dessert, but would love to go back and get one of those waffles that look delicious. Super happy we finally tried Toto's Uncle. Went here a few days ago to rejoice that the week was over and boy was I happy! This is a small hole in the wall place that is homely when you walk in. The good thing here is that you order first and then sit down until your buzzer rings. When I got there I ended up ordering : *bulgogi rice bowl - this was awesome! The beef was marinated perfectly and came with mushroom and japchae. It hit the spot *spicy rice cake - this also came with fish cake. We got the cream rice cake , chashu ramen, bulgolgi cup rice, and the beef and spicy chicken kim bop. Everything was good except for the ramen dish, which was very plain and tasteless. I didn't care for the creamy rice cakes either but the rest of the family enjoyed that dish. I took the leftover beef rice home and it actually tasted better when reheated as leftovers. A Bloomington hidden gem! Toto's is tucked into a residential neighborhood, off the beaten path of the college students that go to some restaurants in droves. (Sorry for bringing that upon this place, but my friends and I love it!) It's still accessible via bus for anyone on campus wanting to go there. This place seems like it wouldn't work...a somewhat weird mashup of Korean food with fruit- and chocolate-covered waffles, and some Japanese stuff like ramen. It's not everywhere that you can go get a seafood ramen and a giant Belgian waffle. Somehow, it works. This place used to have bubble tea and coffee and stuff like that as well, but they stopped doing that part. Still a cute place even without that. The other great thing about Toto's is that it is SUPER CHEAP. You can eat a meal here for $6. Where else does that happen in Bloomington? The "cup bap" are plenty for lunch or dinner and can be a whole meal for just $5.95. I love the Japanese curry cup bap (just wish it had some pork or something in it). My friends love Toto's bibimbap and soups, as well as the waffles. You can make the waffle your meal if you're not super hungry, and can be a dessert for your other food if you are super hungry. Toto's food isn't spectacular, but it's really good compared to a lot of other places in B-town, especially for the price. It's definitely going to be one of our regular stops next semester. read more

Such a low key gem. Kind of off the beaten path in a commercial building that could be mistaken for a clubhouse of the apartment complex. The menu is divided into a few categories. On one end there is coffee drinks along with breakfast foods like their waffles. On the other side there are Korean favorites such as spicy pork, bulgogi, and spicy rice cakes. The prices are extremely reasonable, as I have not seen prices as low as this for Korean fare. The food was tasty and in good portions. The side dishes were limited to just a few different types, but they are self serve and unlimited. Not the most amazing korean food I have ever had. Toto's is the ultimate little secret hideout just up from Kroger's and International market. If you take the bus just one stop more, you'll find yourself amongst a food haven built to explore. The menu varies from scrumptious waffles to kimbap to ramen but every single aspect of it just makes me keep coming back for more. For starters, going here with Korean friends of mine I have heard constantly that the kimbap served here could in fact surpass that of even Korea's, but having never gone I can only say that I find it delicious enough here. It's inexpensive and a good snack or side to grab alongside a plate of rabbokki with friends. The rice bowls and ramen are no joke either. I'd have to personally recommend the ojingeo bokkeum (spicy stir fry squid) cup bap, the flavors are out of this world. They also offer self-serve banchan like pickled raddish, kimchi, and mayo pasta salad. However, to you can't leave without waiting an hour to digest and finally ordering a fruit island waffle to make living worthwile. The cinnamonny, fluffy waffle topped with fresh fruit and delicious ice cream hits the spot no matter what season. If you haven't headed over to Toto's, now's your chance! read more

If you're looking for good, well-priced Korean food in Bloomington, you can't beat Toto's Uncle. The shop is housed in an area that will make you feel like you took a wrong turn but is definitely worth going out of the way for. I have only ever done carry-out but it's always been a great experience. Toto's is the sister restaurant to Ami, and their food is similarly wonderful. The Korean menu that Ami used to feature (Korean snack Thursday!) is part of the menu at Toto's. My favorite dishes are the tteokbokki and the Kimbap varieties (think Korean sushi). I recommend trying the tuna and beef versions! Toto's also has several delicious ramens and "cupbap's" - rice bowls smothered in delicious meats. Wow. I didn't expect much from a place with waffles and spam on the menu, but this place really surprised me! The good: HUGE portion sizes, and SO cheap! We split a spicy pork bibimbap and a vegetable udon bowl. Either one would have satisfied both of us for dinner. Everything seemed fresh. The udon was particularly delicious. So warm and filling with perfectly cooked noodles. The bad: The self-serve sides (kimchi, picked radishes, and a strange macaroni dish) were not very appetizing. Don't waste your time. I really like Toto's Uncle Cafe. Well, actually I just Love their waffles! I've tried several of their food options and they were alright. The kimbap was average to me. To be fair, it's really hard to find the same quality of Korean food I am used to having in Seoul. All of their ramens I've seen being microwaved so I don't know how fresh or homemade it is. So I'm not super enthusiastic about the food. Overall, average. The waffles however are so good! I see them making them fresh. They use real maple syrup. They are huge! Definitely a 2-3 person waffle. They are soft and slightly cinnamony, and their fruit and ice cream offerings go well. I thought it was a pretty solid waffle and I usually get it when I stop in! It's a small place, very affordable and staff are friendly. There are unlimited side dishes that are self serve but it needs to be advertised more. Stopped by Toto's Uncle Cafe for lunch; tucked away on Covenanter Drive amongst apartments, its' hidden location is part of the charm. I ordered spicy rice noodles (Ttok-bo-ki). Seemed to take awhile to prepare. I was okay with that, however, because it looked like only 2 guys were working, and both were moving non-stop while taking orders and preparing food. My selection was tasty, not that I have many other experiences with Korean food to compare it to! I was expecting it to be spicy, but it wasn't. A couple near me shared a waffle with strawberries; it looked like a delicious summer treat. There's also free lemon infused water, and several other drink options for purchase; I'd love to try some of the hot tea selections this Fall as the weather cools. Overall, very enjoyable lunch. After I ordered, I noticed they also have udon noodles, which I adore, and rice bowls. I'll definitely go back and try those in the future (and maybe even grab one of those waffles!) read more

Went to IU for football game and got rained out. Companion mentioned "ramen," and we headed to Toto's for hot soup to ease off the chill of the rain - was a great decision! The menu is a mix of items, with leaning towards Korean. There were about 3 ramen choices, and I went with the chashu. My friend got a bowl of udon with beef and we ordered bulgogi kimbap (sort of a Korean version of sushi) to share. My main point of dissatisfaction - there is a wall with a lovely display of Harney teas, but hot tea is not a drink option. You can get hot water, but in general the beverages are ice water or what's in the fridge (which does have a large variety). Service was fairly quick, and there is a small condiment bar which include kimchi, lemon, and macaroni salad (which was quite good!). This was my first time trying kimbap, but the bulgogi inside was very good and the overall flavor of the roll was nice. The ramen was just what I needed on a chilly, rainy day. The broth was okay, but the pork belly was the star of the bowl...so good! My friend's udon had a nice broth, though I haven't had a lot of udon to say too much. Overall - good food and service! I haven't had a chance to review Toto's uncle yet because I haven't been there in a while, but this may be my favorite Bloomington restaurant. The options to choose from are all amazing, the free kimchi goes great with everything there, and the Korean drinks are fun and have interesting flavors. The Rice Bowls are always my go-to (Bulgogi is my favorite), along with a side of sushi for the table. You MUST get their kimchi and pasta salad that they provide for free, they're both insanely flavorful. For the price, the food you get is so tasty.
