Fairly new Chinese ramen and Boba tea joint in btown. Some of the pics did not look great when looking into it, but I promise high quality. The meat is good quality, broths are tasty, portions are large, and noodles/wontons/dumplings all made in house! This is the key, as the dumplings and noodles are simply out if this world. Chinese ramen is different than Japanese ramen (most well known) and Korean ramen (featured in restaurants in bloomington) as it really tastes more like a traditional Chinese (or even a bit like thai) noodle soups. The Boba tea was also fantastic. Need to clarify if u want unsweetened as the standard teas are sweetened a fair amount. I ordered a non sweet hot jasmine tea with tapioca Boba and it was so good. I'd always ignored this place (it's not much to look at, though cozy when you get inside) but some raves on Reddit led us to check it out, and we were glad we did. We really enjoyed our reasonably-priced ramen (one seafood, one chicken) with yummy hand-pulled noodles. Also, my partner left her phone behind at our table (and didn't notice it was missing until the place had closed), and when she returned the next day to pick it up, the lady at Lan had plugged it in and fully charged it, which was very sweet, above & beyond! read more

TL;DR: Smoothie wasn't great, would try the noodles. Food: Stopped in to try the strawberry smoothie with boba and unfortunately wasn't very impressed. While they used real strawberry, the flavor was very watered down with almost no hint of strawberry at all. Price: Slightly more expensive than other boba tea offerings in the area. Overall: I would consider going again to try the noodles, but probably wouldn't get any of the boba drinks again. read more

Real, authentic ramen. You literally get to see a guy make it behind the window as he pulls the noodles into thinner strands. The broth alone is aromatherapy, and the flavors are breathtaking. The noodles are a special dough that is indescribable. Service is attentive but not obnoxious like most restaurants, which I appreciate. There is a nearby public parking lot. I recommend downloading the Parkmobile app for the meter access as this is downtown. My only criticism is their tea maker is very loud and all the noise bounce off the walls. Lan ramen has a nice looking restaurant with really good fried dumplings but as far as the ramen I had it was pretty average. I got the beef ramen which has hand made ramen noodles, cilantro, and beef. The broth really just tastes like hot water mixed with cilantro and although it's not a bad thing, it does lack in flavor or in other words (bland). This is one of those ramens you have to mix the soy sauce and red chili spices they have on the table to enhance the bowl. If you're big into what I think is Chinese cuisine, you might like this place. read more

This is a good spot for pulled noodles in Bloomington. I've tried the braised beef noodle soup, pork belly noodle soup, pork and shrimp wonton soup, and noodles with pork in soy bean sauce. The noodle soup dishes are better than the dry noodle dish that I've tried. Soup is flavorful without being overly salty. I've tried both the hand cut noodles and the pulled noodles and both are good depending on your preference. I like the hand pulled noodles more but it is just thinner. The noodles with pork in soy bean sauce is a small portion of noodles, a couple strips of cucumber, and a little bit of sauce. There is hardly any meat and really looks more like an appetizer than a meal. I would not recommend getting this as a meal. They also have boba drinks but I haven't tried them. Street parking only but it has always been pretty easy to find a spot. read more

Words can't explain how excited I was when I saw this place! It is an actual Chinese shack that serves cheap (less than $7 ) appetizers and especially in noodles. Lan ramen is actually a Chinese la-mian place, serving piping hot, savory and flavorful broth with a GENEROUS portion of hand pulled noodles. Not just any hand pulled noodles off the shelf, you will hear the noodle master pulling and stretching the dough before boiling and serving it. My first impression to this restaurant were clean, chef who made noodles on front of you and the price reasonable (4 stars) However we were shocked after the bowls were brought up to our table because it was very little meat on it, compared with the price. Then I realized this is Chinese restaurant instead of Japanese restaurant because the taste of the broth. Just tried Lan Ramen for the first time last night! We frequent Da Vinci and had been eyeing this place since it opened. The place itself is pretty nice with some fun artsy stuff painted on the wall. I didn't try any boba drinks but they looked amazing and others ordered them while we were there. We both got the beef hand pulled ramen ($10.99 each) but they had so many different unique protein options like squid and intestines. (Im not a huge ramen connoisseur or anything so take my review as you will) I thought the noodles were so good and seemed very authentic, but the ramen itself was very simple and honestly kind of bland for my taste. As I said, I'm not a huge ramen fan in general so my view may be skewed but I love being able to add sauces and other ingredients to my ramen and this option wasn't really offered. They had a spicy sauce on the table along with soy sauce and vinegar but I wish there were more flavorful options too that weren't just spicy! I think that would have made the experience the best but there's really nothing wrong with this restaurant or the food - it was good food, just a little plain for what I'm used to. I ordered the chop noodles which I had to say the size of each noodle is inconsistent and thick, so the inner part was bit chewy, but my husband's ramen seemed pretty good. Don't be alarmed if you hear yelling from the kitchen. That's all part of the noodle magic. The broth in the ramen is simple, nothing too special, but that doesn't matter because you are there for the noodles. Personally, I like the stir fried noodles best. Every table has soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil. I like the chili oil, but I can only do a couple of drops because it is HOT. I think the bubble tea here is good as well. I like that you can customize it. I like to order the black tea with tapioca, less ice, and 50% sugar. You can easily get take out here or eat in house. Either way, service is very fast and friendly.
