One of the best restaurants in ALL of Bloomington by far. The food is always prepared fresh, yet quickly. The service is very friendly and courteous, and the restaurant is kept quite clean (such as no flies flying around inside). They do have a basement to accommodate large groups, or if there is high demand for eat-in. Prices are quite good and relatively student friendly. Ideal location if you are a music student at IU. My personal favorite to get from here are the combination bento boxes. They're well priced - you can easily order multiple food items at once for the same price as one sushi roll. Bigger bang for your buck! The only thing I would say is stay away from their ramen, but that's only what I've heard from others. I haven't actually tried it myself, so I will still give this place 5 stars based off my own personal experience here. Ami is an absolute gem in Bloomington.

Terrific sushi and the outdoor patio was wonderful. We enjoyed several sushi rolls and a boxed meal on our recent visit. I really liked the spicy California, and with the added miso and salad it was a terrific deal. Generous pour of wine was appreciated. All the other rolls we tried were excellent. The Korean spare ribs were tender and full of flavor. Great spot for sushi right by campus.

The building Ami is in is so cute that I wanted to be obsessed with it, but the food wasn't good at all. They first brought out miso soup and a salad and it was decent. I ordered the katsudon, which comes with rice topped with vegetables, chicken katsu, and an egg. The rice was a bit wet and the vegetables were tough. As for the chicken katsu, I think they just cracked the raw egg on top of it and let it just steam until it cooked and infused with it. The breading was completely soggy and the egg was fused on top of it. The chicken itself was also really tough. I've never had katsudon this way I know this is a sushi place foremost, but if the other dishes are that poor in quality they just shouldn't be on the menu.

First time at Ami ! We had no wait and were immediately seated and served. The food was also out in minutes after we ordered. I was a little nervous since I'm not really familiar with sushi - but, it was super easy to order ! Everything on the menu says exactly what's in it and some items do have photos. Each entree comes with a miso soup and salad. The salad was honestly my favorite part - no, it was just that good ! Unsure of what their dressing was, but it was so good I dipped my sushi in it. I ordered the dragon and my partner ordered the spicy California roll. I wasn't a fan of the texture of what was on top of my roll, but the flavors were really good. The California roll was very tasty. We also got gyoza to share - I loved having something crunchy to cleanse the pallet between each sushi !

I was having sushi cravings a bit early on a Saturday morning and was pleasantly surprised to see this restaurant opened at 11am! I feel like most sushi places are open for dinner only. The food was delicious and I was shocked at how affordable everything was. If you are a tea lover I highly recommend getting theirs. So yummy.

Ami is one of my favorite places for Sushi in Bloomington. Well priced and love the complimentary miso soup and ginger salad. Fast service.

Dolsot Bibimbap w/ Fried Tofu

This place was pretty good! The decoration is nothing fancy but it's definitely nicer inside than you'd expect looking at the outside, and the hidden seating area in the basement is cool. There were a few things marked as unavailable on the menu, but thankfully nothing I wanted, and even so they still had a pretty wide selection of Japanese and Korean food. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap with tofu. Like most meals, it included miso soup and salad appetizers. Oddly enough the kelp in the miso soup stood out to me as being really good - it actually had some texture to it which is unfortunately not always the norm even at otherwise decent Japanese restaurants. The salad was fresh and the ginger dressing was strong and very tasty. The bibimbap was really good! It was my first time getting bibimbap in the stone pot and I was impressed when it came out sizzling and then kept sizzling. The cooked vegetables were cooked just right so that they still had a bit of crunch. The only things off for me were a matter of personal preference - the egg was fully cooked while I prefer a runny yolk, and there was some oil pooled on top, but the oil ended up being not very noticeable. It was nice that the sauce was served on the side so I could dress it to my liking. I had the "original spicy" sauce which definitely has a kick, but the sweetness cuts it a bit and it wasn't so hot that I had to be sparing with it, but they also have a milder sauce for those that prefer less heat. I was there with one other person, and we got a table right away, but they were pretty much at capacity while we were there. Our food came out pretty quickly, though, especially since they brought out the soup and salad first. The prices were a big highlight - my bowl was only $14 and it was so big that I couldn't finish, not to mention the complimentary soup and salad. Everything on the menu seemed like a good deal. My friend got a combo where he ordered ramen (which also comes with miso soup and salad) and added a roll of sushi for $3 - a ton of food for a relatively affordable price. But despite the low prices it didn't taste cheap - it was simple stuff, but legit good food. I'd for sure come here again if I lived in Bloomington.

Best sushi in town! I love the super omg roll! I highly recommend getting it without the tip lit because sometimes when they light the top lighter fluid gets into the roll and it taste funky. Without that it's hands down the best roll on the menu Side note: please bring back your lunch card! :)

Excellent sushi! I did not expect the sushi plate to be so big and high quality. Highly recommend. The service was good, our waitress took awhile to check-in and they were not very busy but it could have just been less staff working that day.

Great sushi and delicious udon ! The fish taste fresh and the place has an extensive menu . One of the better sushi places in B-Town !

Ramen

本当に美味しいです! I selected this restaurant for my dinner as I can no longer tolerate Indiana University's terrible food in cafeterias. It turned out this trip was totally worthy. The restaurant is not big, but it is nicely decorated. The price is relatively reasonable (I ordered this Ramen for around $10, and they also provided a free soup and a free salad). Also, their service was great, and the waiters were friendly. Most importantly, their ramen tasted quite authentic, and its soup really made my day! I will come back to it!

Really good man. Sushi was point as well as the chicken teriyaki and potato cakes. Shrimp tempura was quite lovely. I also had yum yum sauce and pretty much dipped it in everything lol. Only thing I would say is the miso soup needs to be a little bit warmer than what it was. It was almost like juice because want hot as it needed to be to be considered a soup. But overall everything was great. The staff/waiter seemed to be busy and we needed refills etc. but the waiter was nowhere to be found. But thank you and appreciative

Food was very good but the place was very old and dirty. But in a small old town, all restaurants were old and dirty with grime.

Everything about this place hits the mark: authentic flavours, friendly service, and great value. I ordered the beef bulgogi, and it was absolutely fantastic. Super juicy, tender, and full of flavour. That level of tenderness is not easy to achieve, and they nailed it perfectly. The seasoning and balance of sweetness and savouriness were spot on, and the portion size was generous too. I had also ordered their seafood pancake appetizer which was just as great too. It's huge, so ideally, you'd want to share it with someone! The service is excellent -- friendly, attentive, and quick without feeling rushed. You can tell they genuinely care about their food and their customers. The interior is a bit on the smaller side, so keep that in mind if you're planning to dine in, especially during dinner hours -- it can fill up fast. That said, it adds to the cozy, casual charm of the place. Whether you're new to Korean food or a longtime fan, K-BAP is a must-visit spot in Bloomington. Delicious, authentic, and made with care, which means this place easily earns 5 stars.

RHS bills itself as 'Vietnamese Fusion' and I have no idea what that might mean, but it was good. Very good. We went on a cold day, so eating on the outside deck wasn't an option. The interior is a basic strip mall location with a decent number of tables and plenty of seating, albeit a bit cramped. It's counter service, so it pays to take a look at the menu in advance and know what you want before you arrive. Paid at the counter, and they came to our table with the food very quickly. I had the 'Be Kind to Each Other' Chicken Pho which came with the usual sides of sprouts, basil, lime and noodles. You could upgrade your noodles if you wanted. I also added an order of cajun fries, which doesn't really seem like a 'Vietnamese Fusion' choice, but I love cajun fries so who was I to question them? The Pho was terrific. Loved it. The fries were very very good, though maybe a bit generous on the cajun. Still very good, and I definitely will return for this meal again. Friend ordered the Spam Banh Mi. Seriously???? Well, he did. And he said it was very good. You actually pay $0.50 extra for spam. Again, not sure what world you pay extra for the Spam but he did it. He selected the Fire Engine Tim sauce, which was to be spicy. When I pressed him for more details on the quality he said it could be spicier even with that sauce, but otherwise it was very good. He said to point out on Yelp that "That Diet Coke was clutch" - he may have been making fun of my questioning :) All in all a very good experience and I'll definitely return. I don't find much good pho in Bloomington, so it's nice to have a place for that. I won't be eating Spam anytime soon. I'm giving 4 stars only because the seating was a bit cramped and it was busy inside. I would go 4.5 if it weren't in a strip mall and pretty 'basic' ambiance. And that canned Diet Coke is clutch!

There's a lot of choices on the menu and many entrees are customizable with your choice of protein and/or sauce. The place is very vegan/vegetarian-friendly; they have a handful of vegan protein options and most sauces are vegan, if you do try to order a non-vegan sauce with a vegan protein, they'll check to make sure that's okay, vegannaise is available for banh mi, and they will also remove the egg from the entrees containing egg AND take off the price of the egg. Their food may not be totally traditional but I really enjoy it. The level of "authenticity" will vary depending on what you order and which sauces you get in the customizable entrees. Their banh mi bread is different from the banh mi bread I'm used to but I actually like it a lot more. It's crustier and more tender than the usual banh mi bread, closer to a French-style baguette. They stack on lots of fresh veggies. The tofu is thinly-sliced and fried for tenderness that gives it a somewhat similar texture to deli meat. You can also get any banh mi combo as a wrap with the same ingredients, and while the wrap is good for a change of pace, I have to say I prefer the banh mi because the bread is so good. Their other entrees are also delicious and come in hefty portions. Their mapo tofu is the best vegetarian mapo tofu I've ever had. I usually get a Thai iced tea when I come here. It's strong and just the right amount of sweet. I appreciate the oat milk option! I recently tried the Thai iced coffee and that was also really good. Lastly, the staff who work here are very friendly! It seems like a small operation but they work efficiently so I've never had to wait too long for my order! The only thing that's left to be desired here is that everything is served in takeaway containers and they only have plastic cutlery (except spoons for some reason), but I don't know what they're dealing with in terms of capacity to use actual dining ware, so I am not letting that affect my rating.

Bloomington has some excellent Sichuan food, which is the primary Chinese cuisine in town, so when I saw Oasis' extensive menu with a number of spicy dishes listed I got excited and assumed they were Sichuan too. Mistake #1. Mistake #2: Their dinner plates are $8.50, so when I ordered Sichuan shrimp, I should have guessed based on the price that the serving would have only 5 medium sized shrimp. And as I placed my shrimp order I asked if it has any vegetables, and the server pointed me to the veggie dish section. Assuming the shrimp came on its own I ordered a broccoli in garlic sauce ($6.50). Both dishes finally came in identical plates, with the shrimp served with broccoli as well. Like you could tell me that the shrimp came with veggies so I wouldn't order this abundance of broccoli? But she made me order an extra dish with the SAME sauce? These would have been forgiven were it not for the appalling sauce, which resembles the goopy brown cornflour-dumped ketchup-like abomination that passes for everything from General Tso's to "Sichuan" to garlic sauce. I abhor "American Chinese" food loaded in sugar, so I'm unreasonably upset. There was NO difference between my "Sichuan" dish and my "garlic sauce" dish barring a few measly shrimp. And the same sauce has NO heat or spice; an anticlimax considering I was expecting a dish loaded with numbing Sichuan peppercorn and whole chillies. I realized after I was almost done with my meal that the people in the table across me had a different menu with pictures -- and that they were ordering food clearly not on my menu. Well, they stuck me with the American Chinese menu and it sucks. I was very disappointed with my meal. Will not bother coming here again.
