We tried Jit's for the 1st time recently. We both ordered chicken pad Thai, I got mine hot, the spice was delicious but it was a little bit sweeter that I was used too. The crab Rangoon was excellent! We arrived shortly after the had opened up for dinner. We were promptly greeted and seated! The service was wonderful and the food came out quickly. The restaurant was clean and cozy. The booths were older and showed plenty of wear and tear. They could use a little updated furniture. We will stop back in and try more of the menu items! read more

We come, once a year, to see if it's still the one to beat. I give a five star rating only if you're at the top of your game. Jit's is at the top of their game. My pad woon sen was great. I could taste every ingredient. There was enough for two. My partner had their Hawaiian Fried Rice. Both had tofu. Mine was spiced to "Thai Hot" and did not disappoint. Stellar hot, but not so hot that it overpowered the dish. Our crab rangoon appetizer was also delish, but while there were five last year, this year, only four. Plainly, the closest thing in Bloomington is Siam House, which comes close. But the atmosphere at Jits is calm. Smooth music. Comfy. Unrushed. It's welcoming but mainly, it's about the food, which tops the charts, IMHO. read more

This is the best restaurant in all of Spencer, Indiana. Their lunch special is a favorite with the deluxe vegetables with chicken. The special includes a broth soup, salad, eggroll and the entree. I can understand why Chambers put up a big sign next to this place. Unlike that mediocre smorgasbord of food this Thai place has some flavor Wife got pad sew. Now it had the right flavor profile but the noodles were not the big wide ones we were expecting. They do not mess around with the hotness level! Whatever you order elsewhere, take it down a notch or two; the mild or 1 is still mild though. I ordered the Pad Bus Sa Ra Com (45) with beef and it was so delicious. The flavor was amazing, I'm embarrassed to say I ruined the dish for myself by ordering too hot. My partner ordered the Pad Thai (15) with chicken and it was very good. Both dishes had a ton of flavor! Service is great, the food is outstanding and the music and decor is above average. I have wanted to visit Jit's for sometime. I never really had the time or since they close on Sunday and at seven pm during the week it hasn't worked out. Tonight I found the time and they were open after a 20 minutes drive to Spencer Indiana. I worried that since I didn't get there until 6:45 things might be problematic.No worry. The place could seat about 40 people and they were fairly busy. I ordered the duck curry with fresh tomato's, pepper and pineapple in a coconut sauce. The leaves of basil on top kicked it up a notch. I ordered it medium hot with hot sauce on the side. It was just right and the white rice was warm and cooked perfectly. When my wife returns from a trip out of town I plan to ask her for a date night Thai style. read more

This was a real treasure of a Thai restaurant that we found while visiting the town of Spencer Indiana. They had a really big menu of foods both Thai and other Asian cuisine. The first thing you'll notice is how freaking awesome the outside of this building looks. Totally cool and catches the eye for sure. The inside of the restaurant is not as bold as the outside but looks really good in a classy kind of way. The service was A+ as well so yay for that. We got a couple of orders of Crab Rangoon to start our meal. Really good version with a really crab forward filling which I appreciate. For my main course I got the Jit's Spicy Chicken which is a really big portion of deep fried chicken pieces with a special spicy sauce on it. It comes with white rice. This chicken was super, super, delicious. It had a really unique and pretty spicy sauce and it just made me very happy. One of the best Asian chicken meals I've ever had the privilege of enjoying. This place is delish!!! We went to Spencer for a quick trip to try this place and a local brewery after seeing several good reviews. We were glad we did! The ambiance is very cute, colorful, and a bit upscale. There's fun music and some alcohol too. Servers were wearing masks (as they should). We opted for takeout despite the cute vibes (there wasn't any outside seating as far as we could see and we're not really there yet comfort wise anyway). The food traveled very well all the way back to Bloomington. We got Thai tea, mango sticky rice, and a ginger entree that I forget the name of but it was something like "ginger lovers." All the flavors were fresh and bright. This is much closer to the great Thai places I'm used to on the east coast than the dry boring stuff I've had around Bloomy. The spices are on point, it's not too sweet, and the meat (in this case chicken) was cooked beautifully. I will say they're a little shy with the spice levels. We got a 4/5 for heat and I had to add sriracha bc it wasn't spicy enough. I'll up it to 5 next time and we'll see if that takes care of it. All in all this is a really cute happy Thai place and well worth the drive from Bloomy to get legit Thai food! read more

Having an authentic Thai cuisine in a small town like Spencer might seen like a misnomer but Jit has the market for sure. I frequent this place for lunch but have never made it in for dinner. My go-to is the pad Thai with tofu lunch special. The only reason this gets four stars vs five is the price to portion ratio. The portion sizes are very small for the $9 price tag. It is mighty delicious, though, which is why I keep coming back. The service is friendly and restaurant clean and very convenient location on the square in Spencer. read more

Good Thai food, authentic & tasty! The calamari is especially delicious. Anther favorite is the Duck soup.

The atmosphere was quaint, and the service was good but the food was delicious! Also very reasonably priced. I had the Drunken Noodles (Pad Kae Mao) and it was super yummy. It was much closer to actual Thai than a Chinese version called Thai. The dinner portion was huge and I needed up taking 1/2 home. Yay for lunch tomorrow. Small menu, only four options to choose from. I'll attach a picture of the menu. You can either order "regular" or "combo". I asked the waitress what the difference was and she told me "I really don't know"....literally had to prompt her to go ask someone. There's a $2.00 difference and apparently the combo means you can pick two entrees, which is cool. Seems like something the waitress should know prior to taking orders. Waitress messed up our order, overheard her saying that WE were the ones who were wrong about the order. Seriously? We had four options to choose from but we messed up what we wanted? I don't think so. On the bright side, the food was excellent! The other waitress was great as well. I would definitely go back and would recommend this place to others. Camping at McCormick's Creek State Park, we drove into Spencer, hoping for some vegetarian food. Jit's Thai is a storefront on the courthouse square, unmistakable because the whole tall building is painted green, red, and gold. Yelp noted them as being closed on Monday night, but they were open. If you like Thai food, you probably have your favorites to order. My husband got Pad Thai with tofu. I got Yellow Curry with veggies, served with steamed rice. I would like to give this place 3.5 stars, but have to settle for 3. The restaurant was clean and the service was friendly and prompt. However, having dined in a lot of Thai restaurants around Indy, I felt that the food was not quite on the same level as those places. The restaurant is located right on the Courthouse Square, so it is easy to find and there seemed to be plenty of street parking. The restaurant only serves lunch on Wednesday through Friday and has only four entrees available. The menu changes a little from day to day, but it still is limited. I ordered a Pad Z Ew Noodles with Tofu (Wednesday item). The noodles had a good texture and flavor, but the tofu was disappointing. If the item came with a chicken option, I would probably like it better. I also ordered an egg roll (an additional $2 each) which comes with a dipping sauce. That was really tasty! The outside was crisp and the inside was done, but still had a bit of crunch. I also really enjoyed my Thai Iced Tea. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it was really good too! So why not 4 or 5 stars? Well, my wife ordered the Rotisserie Chicken Fried Rice. I guess I should have been suspicious when our order was delivered almost immediately. I suspect that the food was prepared ahead of time and kept warm. There was very little chicken in the rice and what was there was very dry. So, either it was left on the rotisserie too long, or was added to the rice too soon so that it continued to cook. The rice and mix were okay, but a little dry too. (No soy sauce is on the table and my wife didn't ask for any from the waitress, so I don't know if it was available.) She liked the service, so she would probably give it a 3 star rating, but would not order the item again. And when you only have 4 items available, you have to make sure those four are top quality. The price is reasonable, but in Indy, I can get more authentic noodles, plus the egg roll, a small salad, and a bowl of soup for only a dollar more than the entree by itself here. My husband got the Coconut Milk Soup (Tom Kha) with chicken. The flavor was full and delicious. The vegetables added the right amount of texture. Ny husband said it didn't need the chicken and would delicious as a vegetarian dish. I didn't care for the white rice, I thought it was a little dry. However, we loved the actual dishes. I went here with several other people and everyone was very happy with their meal. I had the pad kee mao, my wife had the yellow curry, my brother had the chicken and shrimp mango curry, and others had varieties of fried rice dishes. Even my children's chicken fingers were great as it was in fact tempura chicken cut into strips. I look forward to making the trip over from Bloomington again sometime soon. read more

Visited Jit's Thai Bistro while staying at Canyon Inn - first time in Spencer. The place is very cute, but what made it outstanding was the food. We had the Thai salad rolls, calamari, duck curry and Pad Woon Sen noodles. Everything was delicious but the duck curry was one of the best curries I've ever had. Truly different with slices of duck, pineapple and veggies - it was great!! We got everything "hot" and it was a good spice. The service was great as well and they're doing a good job with masks, cleaning and social distancing. If ever in the area, this is a great spot for delicious Thai food! read more

Seeing the great reviews lured my wife and I to this restaurant in the small town of Spencer. I enjoyed the drunken man's fried rice with chicken, but my wife unfortunately hated the tom yum soup. She has had tom yum soup many times at other places and usually loves it. The broth was ok but the ingredients all seemed undercooked and they left the tails on the shrimp! read more

We did a quick google search while driving through Spencer on the way home and found this great restaurant. We arrived a half hour before closing time on a Saturday and still received wonderful service. I had the Drunken Man's fried rice with beef. The vegetable mix and sauce flavoring was phenomenal. The spice/heat level was perfect. This may actually be the first Asian style restaurant that describes the spice levels of their food accurately instead of a weak spice level that most other restaurants offer. My wife had the shrimp pad Thai. She described as deliciously sweet and spicy. Her only qualm was with the shrimp tails still being on. I think with the large size of shrimp, it is simply a preference though. We also ordered the 'Thai Elephant Ear' with coconut ice cream. I am not sure if the elephant ear name really describes the pastry by the normal American definition of one. The fried pastry was very delicate and had a sweet syrup on top. This mixed with the coconut ice cream was a nice finish to a great meal. Other posters have mentioned the prices being somewhat high for the town, but I think the quality of food that they offer, more than makes up for what small difference it may be.
