This has been our favorite in Bloomington for almost a decade, unfortunately the new ownership is quickly sinking the ship. Between menu changes, and a now grouchy staff it's becoming unbearable. The food is going downhill faster than a rollercoaster. The icing has been the booking of a birthday party at the hibachi, never have I ever seen such a mess. Seating catastrophes, ordering nightmares, and terrible server attitude. I've never seen a server act angry and tell a party they've ordered to much food. I've lived in Bloomington for 2 years and haven't ever heard any reviews of this place. I decided to finally give it a try with some friends in the hibachi area, and to say it quickly, I was satisfied. Service was nice, as we had meaningful conversations with our cook while also getting constant refills without ask, which is always a small detail I love. Price is so reasonable for what you're getting as the food did not disappoint. I'm basic and just got the chicken and shrimp but was very satisfied with the entire meal, as you also get salad, soup, and veggies on the side of your order. Overall, I see the vision with the place, but it was so dead attendance wise that it just felt like we didn't belong there or something. We had the entire place to ourselves which just made it weird eating in the (almost) dead silence. Zero stars for the gentleman who could be the owner that was trying to explain to me that duck prices have gone up and they have not changed the menu prices yet. I ordered the duck and pork noodle soup that says $10.95 on the menu. When I received my check, it said $13.95. when I spoke to my server and explain that to him the other gentleman explain to me that duck prices have gone up and that they can't afford to sell it at that price. I said that I get it but you should change the prices on the menu. His reply was that they were working on it. That is very lame! I decided to go with some of my colleagues before they went on vacation. l The service was great, and I got my food in a fast manner. The food was delicious, and nothing ever beats Habachi Steak with mustard sauce. Additionally, I got double rice. You can never have too many car While this restaurant's food was delicious, I do wish that our chef was a little more outgoing like others. Other than that this restaurant was an absolute delight. Where to begin with this review: 1. Not greeted upon arrival, and just awkwardly standing there while staff give you looks. Eventually after a minute someone walked over to seat up. 2. The server was just plain awful. He didn't really speak to us or have any interest in us. There was a table of females that he kept going over to and spending all his time while treating the rest of the customers like we were a bother. It took 10 minutes before he came back to take our orders. (At this point it's our mistake for having not already walked out) 3. The food.... A. We ordered the calamari app. It was the chewiest and most unsavory dish of this type I have had. Like it was just frozen in a bag that they just cook when needed. B. The fried rice is the absolute worst rice I have had in my entire life. My partner guessed the awful taste comes from oyster sauce, which is our best guess to what could the terrible flavor. C. The salt and pepper fish was actually good. D. The beef and scallion was edible, but not the best. End of review. Do not come here if you want good service. Don't order the rice. I usually tip after I pay for my food and my server wanted me to give my tip immediately. I also was tipping for my friends bill since I had a cash and he kept asking where her tip was. In my family, there are always disagreements over what we're having for dinner. If we land on 'asian food' now we have thai, chinese, sushi, japanese, all the options - only one place can make everyone happy, and it's Asuka. Yes it's in a strip mall, but once you're inside, you have a great atmosphere and plenty of options. Several hibachi tables if you want to see an onion volcano and fire. Noodle bowl options. Sushi. Really a little bit of everything. The sushi options are plentiful and reasonably priced. When you ask for spicy, they'll check with you before they let you do it, and that's a good idea because if you say 'super hot' they'll make your eyes water. Terrific service, and every dish has been among the best in Bloomington. On my last visit, I opted for the Kung Pao Chicken, extra spicy. My eyes were watering but it was flavorful, spicy and a great portion size. Sushi as an appetizer, also great. Never used to remember this restaurant as an option but recently ate there and it was delicious! I love that they have such a large amount of different food options, they have a Chinese menu and Japanese menu, so you can get a little bit of everything! We got steamed whole fish, vegetable tataki, and some rolls and everything was amazing! The real star of the show was the shrimp dumplings, they were so incredibly delicious we order them all the time now, one time we literally just got dumplings for carry out as a snack! Came here with some friends a while back. Should have ordered something off the authentic-looking Chinese menu, but made the mistake of thinking it'd be good for Japanese stuff. I've had the tonkatsu at almost every place in Bloomington that I can think of that serves it, so I decided to get it here too to see how it stacked up. Unfortunately it's probably just about the worst one I've had. The pork was unbearably dry and was mostly just crisp breading, not even meat. Sauce wasn't that great either. Pretty disappointing. My friends felt similarly about a lot of the stuff they ordered, especially for the price. Ended up paying $17 for a plate of dry, flavorless pork. The plus at this place is that it was fast compared to some comparable restaurants. Food came out quick and service was adequate. Can't speak for the hibachi, but we wish they'd improve the non-hibachi dishes if they're gonna have them. read more

My drink was served with a plastic wrapper in it, no apology was offered. The food was marginal. We had 3 or 4 waitresses so it was very confusing. We went for a friends birthday and all ordered off the hibachi menu. Our waitress was cold, distant, and snapped at us for our orders. The hibachi grill here has become a favorite of our family's, largely because our eight-year-old finds it endlessly entertaining. The hibachi menu is straightforward Japanese-steakhouse-in-the-US fare, served in giant Midwestern portion sizes. The decor on that side of the restaurant is lacking, for sure (it may just be too brightly lit?), but it's always a reliable and entertaining family meal. We have not ventured into the real Chinese menu, but the sushi has been of quite good quality and is a great alternative to fried rice and dipping sauces (you can order off of the "real menu" in the hibachi room). We have always received friendly service here, and although many staff are not confident in their English, they have always been helpful and attentive. I will be back and contrary to the previous reviewer, I most definitely do not hope that they all lose their jobs and their business. read more

After a quick look over the menu (hibachi tables, a sushi bar, and various udon dishes) we opted for the hibachi experience. We had shrimp, scallops, and chicken. It was OK, not great. The chef dropped some blobs of cold garlic on everything at the end of cooking and then didn't mix it, so it was pockets of minced garlic in there. Surprise! Also ordered a spicy scallop roll just to see what that was about. The scallops were so cold...maybe just a tab above freezing... a hint of ice crystals. Eh. Not a show stopper, but not great. The food here.... well, there's no love, no passion. Just bored staff going through the motions it seems like. Several very nice fish tanks!
