(Three year old review: [unintelligible groaning] (that's a positive) Nasi Goreng, Ayam Goreng, Chicken Katie Curry, Kwee Tiam...all amazing! Service was quick and courteous. Nice soothing music. All in all pretty good. Would come again

I had the chicken katsu curry. Wasn't bad. I preferably like a little bit more seasoning but that's just me. It's awash clean inside but I ordered online using DoorDash. The rice texture was good as well

The milk tea that we got here was pretty similar to other similar places. We probably wouldn't make an effort to return. The attendant (we ordered take out), didn't seem comfortable with us ordering, and it was pretty chilly inside the restaurant.

Tried the matcha crepe cake. It was lovely and not too sweet, but I think it had too much matcha on the top -be careful not to inhale when you take a bite!

Something is just off about the bubble tea today. It is watered down almost? I always get the lavender bubble tea here but today I'm confused by the lack of flavor it has. Perhaps because it is Tuesday special where boba tea is 30% off? I'm not sure. You can get away with it with alcohol but not with bubble tea...

The portion of their katsu curry was huge! Their bubble tea was one of the best in town as well. The beef ramen was delicious too.

Very nice atmosphere! Usually never crowded when sitting in. They are best for pick up orders because they pack things well! I highly recommend this place if you want Asian cuisine for a quick lunch!

Small but cozy cafe! The layout is a little odd, with the cashier and the ordering counter right when you walk into the door. So if there is a line, it would be very crowded. I ordered the Early Gray Milk Tea with Lychee Jelly and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it tasted! For $4 for a large, I would definitely get it again. Only reason why I did not give it five stars was because they ran out of boba early in the day, around 6pm, and the store closes at 10pm. Heard there is a 30% off on Tuesday deal though!!

I liked this place a lot! It's really quiet and I was the only customer the majority of the time I was there. The employees were attentive and really kind. It was very quiet so I studied there for awhile. They have comfortable booth seating. I got a milk tea and the matcha cake. First of all, wow, the matcha cake (they also had durian, vanilla and tiramisu flavors) was visually stunning and absolutely delicious! The price was really steep at almost $9 which almost made me not order it. Although it was super good, that is quite a lot to drop on a cake so I wouldn't order this every time I come in. I'm sure it must be time consuming to make considering all of the thin layers that must be made. The milk tea was good, it reminded me of the royal milk tea I would drink in Japan. I'm no bubble tea expert so I can't comment too much on the quality - just that I thought it was tasty. They had much more on the menu and I'm looking forward to seeing what else they have to offer!

Honestly this place is special. The bubble tea is outstanding and the ambiance is incredible. It is relatively quiet, the chairs are comfortable, and there are many different types of tables. If you want to be alone, they have elevated seating, if you are eating in a group they have large tables where everyone can sit. It is a great place to study or hang with friends. I normally get the mango milk tea with bubbles and it tastes so good. They don't use those powers which many places tend to use that make the tea taste chalky. They actually blend the fruit. I have actually had little chunks of frozen mangos in my drink a few times, proof how great the drinks are. (Right now I'm in New York and am struggling to find a place with bubble tea that can compare to Cafe Bali's) The entres are also very good and very reasonably priced. I have never had one but my friend has and has really enjoyed himself. They have almost anything you could want and are super friendly too! They are also open pretty late for those late night cram sessions. Overall fantastic shop and if you are planning on spending at least 4 years in Bloomington, you have to try this shop!

TL;DR: Tea decent. Food disappointing. Portions tiny. Go elsewhere. --- I decided to check them out because they had a hooked deal for a $4.95 Chicken Curry Meal. I called to place an order and was told they took chicken curry off their menu and replaced it with beef curry. Alrightythen? I walked on over to grab my curry and was a bit pained to see how small the "meal" was -- a small bowl consisting of 2/3 rice and 1/3 beef stew trying its best to be curry. The stew was mostly potato bits with a few onions and 4 tiny beef chunks (see photos). The taste was underwhelming. Alas, I decided that I shouldn't judge a Japanese cafe based on curry... So my next visit I tried their Matcha Milk Tea with bubbles ($2.95) and Spicy Miso Ramen ($8.95). I liked the tea, but it's not something I'd venture to buy again. The ramen, on the other hand, was a huge disappointment. For $9 I expected more than a tiny bowl of instant noodles with two pieces of sliced ham, a sheet of seaweed, and a fermented egg (see photo). Again, the taste was woefully underwhelming and incredibly salty. With Lucky Express and Sushi Haru (both amazing) literally around the corner on 3rd, I'm surprised they're trying to compete with such inferior food. Really, there's way too many amazing Asian restaurants nearby to ever justify visiting this cafe again.

Anyone who shops here knows unfriendly, rude cashiers are a long-standing norm. But this goes far beyond that. I witnessed deli employees openly mocking and laughing at a customer for wearing glasses, including using fake voices and calling them "nerdy." It was cruel, public bullying of someone who appeared to have an eye disability. The stuff of Disney schoolyard villains. Truly an insane thing to witness from grown men in work uniform on the clock. Here's the really disturbing thing... Leadership didn't even care. I reported it immediately and followed up many times (phone, email, website form, social) asking for leadership to respond. The marketing manager assured me that leadership was well aware of the incident. Two weeks later, I still haven't gotten a single response. The baristas are always friendly. The place is spacious with a good amount of seating, but it can sometimes be hard to find a good seat inside because, as you would expect, students come to study/work and stay for a long time. I love their baked goods - they have interesting and unique offerings and everything tastes wholesome. Besides their Soma-made bakes (muffins, loaves, scones, dessert bars, cookies, and more), the bagels (I think from Gables) and Piccolo Dolci pastries are great, but they have these two muffins that are from a different supplier that I didn't think were of very good quality - I recommend avoiding the chocolate cheesecake muffin and banana nut muffin. I think the veggie/cheese sandwich is decent. It's just deli cheese slices with lettuce, cucumber, pesto, and mayo, but the bread is good and if you want something simple it's surprisingly satisfying. The coffee is pretty good. I am a decaf drinker so I appreciate that they have both decaf coffee and decaf espresso. They have a really good loose leaf tea selection and the teas are legit. Between the variety and quality it's the best tea selection I've found at a coffee shop in Bloomington. The quality of the chai and matcha are less impressive. I feel like there's a slight artificial flavour to the matcha, but to be fair, I've only tried it with flavour added, so maybe it's better unsweetened. When I asked for half sweet, that was better than regular sweetness. Both are still better than Starbucks. But I'd definitely recommend the loose leaf tea lattes over the chai/matcha. As mentioned in my previous review, some things are self-serve. It turns out they do have glasses and mugs available if you ask, but if you don't ask for dine-in, the default is disposable cups. Brewed coffee is self-serve, with your choice of (usually) two regular roasts and one decaf. If you want a toasted bagel, you have to slice and toast it yourself in the toaster on the condiment table. It seems like you sort of have to know what to order here, but as I'm learning what's good, I really appreciate the offerings that are good, the comfortable unpretentious environment, and long hours at Soma.

The women that were working during my visit were all so very helpful and friendly. they helped my make my selection. They serve a wide array of hot and iced coffees and also has teas, smoothies and juices as well. The coffees come in 3 sizes, yep you guessed it, small, medium and large. The light food options that they have includes cookies, scones, muffins, parfaits, quiche, zucchini bread, brownies, and cinnamon rolls. I ended up getting a large iced pumpkin spice latte. It took about 7 minutes for me to get my drink. It was very savory and hit the spot. It was gone in a matter of seconds. Anyway, I highly recommend checking this place out. Almost every time I've come here, they're either out of something or the fryer is down/not on yet. They have non dairy milk listed on the menu, and the first time I came here, I ordered and received an oolong milk tea with almond milk, but next time, when I tried to order a green milk tea with soy milk, they said all the milk teas were made with non-dairy creamer and they could only do the alt milk for lattes. All that aside, I have never been unhappy with anything that I actually got. Their matcha latte (regular or strawberry) is pretty good and the honey boba is excellent. The regular sugar level is too sweet for me, but less sweet is great. The cheese corn dog varies in the ratio of cornbread to cheese and how "done" it's cooked, but I've never gotten one that was bad. The most recent one I got was the best. They are kind of difficult and messy to eat because the melted cheese doesn't want to stay on the stick with the breading weighing it down. I haven't had the issue with the super long wait time again. The corn dog normally takes about 10 minutes because of how long it takes to make the thing, drinks are usually ready sooner. Most of the baristas are friendly, some not so much. I have gotten the eye roll once when I asked for a topping they were out of even though there was no way I could have known this. I do think it's overall worth it to come here, because again, the product is good and the cafe space is cute, but the situation where you can't count on anything being available is frustrating.
