Okay, so I have been here a handful of times now, and I really like the drinks, but the menu is just so inconsistent. Almost every time I've come here, they're either out of something or the fryer is down/not on yet. They have non dairy milk listed on the menu, and the first time I came here, I ordered and received an oolong milk tea with almond milk, but next time, when I tried to order a green milk tea with soy milk, they said all the milk teas were made with non-dairy creamer and they could only do the alt milk for lattes. All that aside, I have never been unhappy with anything that I actually got. Their matcha latte (regular or strawberry) is pretty good and the honey boba is excellent. The regular sugar level is too sweet for me, but less sweet is great. The cheese corn dog varies in the ratio of cornbread to cheese and how "done" it's cooked, but I've never gotten one that was bad. The most recent one I got was the best. They are kind of difficult and messy to eat because the melted cheese doesn't want to stay on the stick with the breading weighing it down. I haven't had the issue with the super long wait time again. The corn dog normally takes about 10 minutes because of how long it takes to make the thing, drinks are usually ready sooner. Most of the baristas are friendly, some not so much. I have gotten the eye roll once when I asked for a topping they were out of even though there was no way I could have known this. I do think it's overall worth it to come here, because again, the product is good and the cafe space is cute, but the situation where you can't count on anything being available is frustrating. read more

I recently came back to visit Bapu, and it's changed a lot over the few years since it's opened. I was excited to check it out and get a wintermelon milk tea, but I was a little disappointed by the quality of the milk tea this time around. I got the pineapple milk tea with boba and salt cream. The flavor was really good and the saltiness of the cream really brought it all together for that salty sweet flavor combo. Service was friendly and extremely fast! They also have outlets everywhere to charge laptops if you decide to get some work done here. Lastly, prices were pretty good! read more

I was once struck by a moving vehicle while en route to Bapu and still got my peach smoothie anyway. (That's not a joke, it was at the Bapu on 10th Street though, so don't feel like you're going to get hit by a car going to Bapu Fresh.) I have never ordered anything other than a peach smoothie or a mango smoothie at Bapu. I'm much more of a smoothie person than a bubble tea person, but a lot of people who like bubble tea say Bapu is the best. I should really try something else here, but the smoothies are SO good, especially the peach one. I have had their Taiwanese-style chicken, and it was pretty tasty. This is such a cute little store, too! I wonder how many Instagram pictures have been captured in Bapu Fresh...you sure couldn't do that at the 10th street Bapu...Shack? Hut? Stand? Whatever you call it. A super cute and very Instagrammable bubble tea place right next to the Sample Gates? Please! I had heard that Bapu is great, so I was excited to try it and sip on my delicious afternoon snack. Sadly, the bubble tea didn't do it for me. I've had lots of bubble tea and so I went in with a pretty good idea of what I like and don't like. I went for the matcha milk tea with tapioca boba, which is a classic in my bubble tea repertoire and something you can count on every place having. My brother had the iced milk drink with caramel, pudding, and tapioca boba. Another time I stopped in, I had the honeydew milk tea with tapioca boba. Each time, everything tasted extremely chalky. Though they were all chalky, the honeydew milk tea tasted especially so. Not only was the taste off, but the aftertaste just wasn't great. I love tapioca boba, so I really wanted to love them, but the consistency was just too sticky and gooey. The boba were melty in my cup soon after I got my drink. Despite the drinks not being great, the people working inside were very approachable and offered everyone who came in recommendations on their favorite menu items. The drinks do that a while to make, so just be aware if you're stopping in on your way to class or something that's time-sensitive. After going twice and not loving it, I'm definitely going to continue my quest for great bubble tea in Bloomington, but just somewhere other than Bapu. read more

Really cute 2nd Bapu location right near the Sample Gates. I love bubble tea and their taro bubble tea smoothies (at either location) are def the best in town. They have lots of other fun flavors like mango, sesame, lychee, and avocado, but I'm boring and always get the same one. When I deviate I end up missing the taro flavor and color too much and end up filled with regret until the next day when I go back to fix my terrible mistake haha. Their Taiwanese chicken nuggets are so good! I've never had nuggets like those anywhere else. I love the little bits of seaweed and the beautiful umami flavor. They also have other snackies like cookies and other types of locally made pastries, but I mostly save all my appetite for the beautiful, delicious, taro bubble tea smoothie. Best bubble tea in Bloomington! I loved my Taro Milk tea, it was full of flavor and just sweet enough! The boba is my favorite topping but I have tried the pudding toppings before and I enjoyed those as well! If it's your first time I would highly recommend getting the either the Thai Milk Tea if you like a sweet drink or the Original Green Milk Tea if you're into more natural tea flavors! As an IU alum coming back to Bloomington to see another bapu location open, I was excited. A boba spot?!! Right in front of the iconic Sample Gates?!?! I was thrilled. The cafe is super cute. The neon sign, lighting, everything is very instagrammable. I had a good feeling about this place, especially since Bapu's 2 other locations (zero and bapu the stand) has some on-point and authentic Asian boba. That is... Until I tried ordering boba and was told "sorry, we are out of boba for the rest of the day." This was an hour before closing, to be fair, but that means that they didn't even bother cooking more boba when they ran out. If you're a boba joint and run out of boba, there is a problem... Just saying. Still giving it 3 stars since they have lychee popping boba. That stuff is delicious. read more

I'm a fan of their milk teas and really enjoyed the honeydew milk tea the last time I was there. The texture of their tapioca is slightly off but every bubble tea place is different so it's expected. the only reason i've been coming here instead of chow bar is because i like the milk tea better, but i'm probably going to start going to chow bar instead. every time i come here the customer service is subpar and employees are rude. they don't look happy to be there, don't interact or answer questions. i watched one of the employees not make enough to fill my drink (a little over halfway) and then instead of making more she just dumped a ton of ice in it. one time i came in 15 minutes before closing and the employee told me they were already closed. i'm done coming here read more

I love the fact that there is a bubble tea so close to sample gates! I love the other Bapu location on campus and am so happy they have where you can actually sit and chat with friends.
