    Legend Bowl
    Sean V.

Another good time here. I got the legend bowl with chai seeds as the toppings. Good man. Healthy and sweet enough. I give it a 4 out of 5 stars because it's too expensive. Otherwise I would be here everyday.

I've now been to Rush Bowls a few times, and am impressed with the quality and service every time. Admittedly, I'm eating keto and it's a horrible option if you're avoiding carbs. . . but it's healthier than many other lunch alternatives if you aren't avoiding carbs. The shop is small, with limited indoor seating. They do however have tables and chairs out front and in the back with ample space should you choose to enjoy the nice weather when applicable. The options include a variety of 'bowls' ranging from Acai bowls (acai based obviously) to my favorite the Berry Fresh Bowl (lots of berries, frozen yogurt, granola, honey) to green options. They also have several smoothie options. Add on items include a variety of berries on top to peanut butter to the typical protein, antioxidants, etc. Bowls are VERY generously portioned, delicious, and provide ample fruits and protein options. As I said, I'm watching my carbs so they're a bit sugar heavy due to the fruits, but sometimes I just want one enough that I'm willing to ignore the carbs and just enjoy the great meal! Of note, they also have a great app to pre-order your bowl and get very picky with how each bowl is made, add and subtract ingredients, etc. - all in all it's a great option for a meal or a snack.

I went with the PB&J açaí bowl. This was my first time ever having açaí. It was pretty filling. The peanut butter was pretty thick and didn't mix well, but overall it was very good. The employees were extremely helpful and provided a few recommendations. The venue was clean and welcoming. It was set up for an efficient process from order to payment and pickup.

Berry Fresh Bowl with blueberries & chia seeds

Best smoothie bowls I've had in town! Perfect thick, smooth consistency with so much flavor! Their service was very quick and friendly. My bowl was made within 5 minutes of ordering - definitely lives up to its name. The only downside I found was that when I asked for a nut-free smoothie, they informed me that they put peanut butter in all of their blenders and could not guarantee that there would be no cross-contamination. Keep that in mind if you or your friends have allergies. My friend was really bummed out that they couldn't have a bowl with me. It would be a great idea to have a designated blender for nut-free smoothies, especially since the website boasts being allergy-friendly. All of their bowls looked gorgeous but I went with their Berry Fresh bowl with extra blueberries and chia seeds on top. It was absolutely delicious and I can't wait to come back and try the others!

You pay a membership fee, and the workers there are part of the ownership. Immediately, you are hit with warmth and just that coziness you want in a local grocery store. Whole Foods ambiance but not corporate. There is a deli and a hot/cold foods bar. Produce and plenty of plant-based options to choose from. We definitely enjoyed the experience .

Anyone who shops here knows unfriendly, rude cashiers are a long-standing norm. But this goes far beyond that. I witnessed deli employees openly mocking and laughing at a customer for wearing glasses, including using fake voices and calling them "nerdy." It was cruel, public bullying of someone who appeared to have an eye disability. The stuff of Disney schoolyard villains. Truly an insane thing to witness from grown men in work uniform on the clock. Here's the really disturbing thing... Leadership didn't even care. I reported it immediately and followed up many times (phone, email, website form, social) asking for leadership to respond. The marketing manager assured me that leadership was well aware of the incident. Two weeks later, I still haven't gotten a single response. I won't support a business that tolerates bullying and ignores people who speak up against it. Vote with your money and shop at the Bloomington Farm Stop Collective, where you can get local food AND be treated with basic human dignity.

The baristas are always friendly. The place is spacious with a good amount of seating, but it can sometimes be hard to find a good seat inside because, as you would expect, students come to study/work and stay for a long time. I love their baked goods - they have interesting and unique offerings and everything tastes wholesome. Besides their Soma-made bakes (muffins, loaves, scones, dessert bars, cookies, and more), the bagels (I think from Gables) and Piccolo Dolci pastries are great, but they have these two muffins that are from a different supplier that I didn't think were of very good quality - I recommend avoiding the chocolate cheesecake muffin and banana nut muffin. I think the veggie/cheese sandwich is decent. It's just deli cheese slices with lettuce, cucumber, pesto, and mayo, but the bread is good and if you want something simple it's surprisingly satisfying. The coffee is pretty good. I am a decaf drinker so I appreciate that they have both decaf coffee and decaf espresso. They have a really good loose leaf tea selection and the teas are legit. Between the variety and quality it's the best tea selection I've found at a coffee shop in Bloomington. The quality of the chai and matcha are less impressive. I feel like there's a slight artificial flavour to the matcha, but to be fair, I've only tried it with flavour added, so maybe it's better unsweetened. When I asked for half sweet, that was better than regular sweetness. Both are still better than Starbucks. But I'd definitely recommend the loose leaf tea lattes over the chai/matcha. As mentioned in my previous review, some things are self-serve. It turns out they do have glasses and mugs available if you ask, but if you don't ask for dine-in, the default is disposable cups. Brewed coffee is self-serve, with your choice of (usually) two regular roasts and one decaf. If you want a toasted bagel, you have to slice and toast it yourself in the toaster on the condiment table. It seems like you sort of have to know what to order here, but as I'm learning what's good, I really appreciate the offerings that are good, the comfortable unpretentious environment, and long hours at Soma.

Since the shop is so close to IU campus, most people walk here. The dining area is large and has couches, tables/chairs and bar seating along the front window. You can imagine that the place is usually filled with IU students working away on their laptops of in small social groups, given the shop's close proximity to the campus. The women that were working during my visit were all so very helpful and friendly. they helped my make my selection. They serve a wide array of hot and iced coffees and also has teas, smoothies and juices as well. The coffees come in 3 sizes, yep you guessed it, small, medium and large. The light food options that they have includes cookies, scones, muffins, parfaits, quiche, zucchini bread, brownies, and cinnamon rolls. I ended up getting a large iced pumpkin spice latte. It took about 7 minutes for me to get my drink. It was very savory and hit the spot. It was gone in a matter of seconds. Anyway, I highly recommend checking this place out. It is a traditional coffee house, with a great staff, savory drinks and delicious treats. I highly recommend checking this place out.

Not comparable to what you get if you visit a real Japanese curry house, but still delicious. The menu marks it as spicy but, while it was warming and hearty, I didn't think it was very spicy. I like how they prepare their tofu - the texture is perfect for holding sauce. The lavender milk tea was the basic stuff from a premade mix. Not bad but not great. I think they may just have used too much of the mix because the drink was very sweet and a little thick. The grass jelly was also firmer than usual so I suspect this was a premade canned brand of not particularly high quality. I do sometimes like bubble tea made from tea mixes, so I might try different flavours and toppings to see if other options are better. They had regular waiter service this time. I had a different waitress than last time. She mentioned that she had just started, but she was very nice and did great.

The cream between the layers was quite stiffened and dry. You might have needed a knife to cut through the layers. Yes... that bad. I also ordered an americano coffee, the cashier didn't really offer cream or sugar... so I had it black which is fine, but bc of how stale the cake was, it did not help the coffee any. I'm hoping it was just an off day. The young cashier seemed like she did not want to be there and I totally feel her, I remember being that age and not wanting to work, so it may also be a staffing issue as well. Overall, was kind of disappointed in my visit here. But there are other places in Bloomington to try out so no worries.

Despite being located in a hotel, most customers seemed like local students. I like the decor, there's lots of eclectic little pieces to look at, hidden in corners all over the space. I wasn't sure where to order when I walked in. There's a small bar with a few seats that was manned by a bartender and another counter by the baked goods display that had paper food menus and a drink menu but was unattended for a while. Eventually someone came out to the second counter and took my order. They gave me a number for my table and said they would bring my food out, but when it was ready they called my name and I had to go get it myself and take the number back. I got: Vegan tenders: I thought the tenders were very good and tasted close to real chicken tenders. They come with the option of regular or sweet potato fries. I got sweet potato fries and thought they were fine but average, maybe a little oily. Choice of dipping sauce is also included - I loved their honey mustard. There's also ketchup and hot sauce available at the condiment stand. Chocolate chip cookies: I really wanted these oatmeal cookies they had in the display but I was told the display cookies were old and they had chocolate chip instead. I thought I was just getting one cookie but I guess one order is two cookies. I thought they were nothing remarkable and a little dry. Sincronici-tea: This was a seasonal drink - white chocolate blueberry matcha latte with cashew milk. The flavours were interesting but I could barely taste the matcha. Prices are maybe a little on the high side but acceptable; the meals are like restaurant food rather than cafe food. For the high end ambiance it seems like they're going for, it would be nice if the cookies and drink didn't come in takeout containers. Overall, I wasn't too impressed but would give it another chance. I wouldn't get matcha again.

However, my experience did not match the rave reviews. First of all, the actual restaurant is currently get getting renovated, so a makeshift seating area and coffee shop is set up in the lobby of the Graduate Hotel. It's a small space, but they arranged the tables nicely, so it didn't feel crowded. We ordered at the counter, where you can get paper menus or look off the board. I got one of the seasonal drinks, called "Nosferatu's Nectar." It was supposed to be a white chocolate raspberry mocha, but the coffee was so watered down and I couldn't taste any of the white chocolate. I was super disappointed because I felt like I just wasted $7. My friend got a hot chai latte, but it was only lukewarm. Overall, the drinks left much to be desired. For brunch, we both ordered the stuffed French toast, which was supposed to be topped with cream cheese icing and fresh berries, but it only came with a light sprinkle of powdered sugar. They also did not have butter for the French toast. Even though it was a nice portion, it was not worth the $13 price tag. I don't know if they're currently having trouble with their quality due to the renovations and I need to come back when they're back in their main location, but Poindexter did not live up to my expectations.
