Tom has installed a slip stone nut on another Gibson Les Paul, new pickups into a third, done a few set up jobs for me before I learned to do it myself, and recently re-wired and potted an old 1978 Gibson SG. The only bad thing about Tom is he usually has 3 or 4 weeks of work ahead of him, so you do have to wait a while for the work to get done. As long as he is in business I will take my guitars to no one else.

I had the chance recently to do some podcast recording at Round Table Recording Company…read more Round Table is a multi-studio recording company that offers recording, custom production, educational programs, and even the ability to monetize work. Folks here have worked with the likes of Gavin DeGraw, Snoop Dogg, The Goo Goo Dolls, DMX, B.o.B., Big Sean, Mac Miller, Mike Posner, The Fray, Jadakiss, Alanis Morissette, Tory Lanez, Stereophonics, William Michael Morgan, Big Smo, Jelly Roll, Nappy Roots, Ryan Tedder, Busta Rhymes, Wiz Khalifa, Mike Epps, and John Legend. I was here for fairly simple podcast recording. In this setting, it's reasonable to be concerned about accessibility. This is a modestly-sized building in Broad Ripple with a handful of parking spots. Street parking is also available all around it. They do have one accessible parking spot, not quite ADA, but I opted to park on the street as it gave me better access. The side entrance works better for accessibility. I had no trouble getting in it in a wheelchair. The doorways were right about 32" - right at ADA requirements. I also found the studio to be pretty darn workable with one bit of a bump to get over some cords. The podcast set-up was ideal for a wheelchair, though I will note they also knew I was coming in advance. I find in unique settings it's just helpful to let folks know in advance. The staff I met were all friendly and helpful. The setting was inviting and very conducive to recording. I'd imagine I was in one of the smaller studios, though it looked like it could be easily adapted. I'm not an expert in recording, however, I was impressed with the set-up and the effort to make guests comfortable. This was a positive experience all around for me and definitely made me intrigued about the idea of my own podcast recording in the future. I would easily return.

While previously it served the military here, the fort itself is long gone and the building now falls under the non-profit umbrella of Arts for Lawrence. Arts for Lawrence acquired the building in 2016 and began some pretty significant renovations including new technologies, film capabilities, cosmetic upgrades, and a building addition. The building can be used for both movies and stage performances and is actively used for both. Indy-based Heartland Film recently moved into the Fort Ben area (in the Sterrett Center) and often utilizes this theater including for its current holiday movie series. Accessibility has greatly improved under Arts for Lawrence (fantastic non-profit), though there are obviously limits given the age of the building. As a general rule, attending events here should be no problem for those, like myself, with mobility issues. There's parking right across from the building. I'm not sure about the seating capacity here, though it's a relatively intimate setting with probably no more than a couple hundred seats. The theatre itself is close to several nearby restaurants and it's easy to make attending an event here a date night. Fort Harrison State Park is also less than five minutes away!

Yes! This place is awesome, and you need to check it out. Basically, you can come and visit when you want. You can run on the track, play tennis, play frolf (frisbee golf), walk around the grounds, play in the playhouse (if you have kids) or just come and enjoy the 20+ acres of land. All of this is for free, mind you: Fitness Farm is open to the public. This place is so great that it literally makes me want to cry. He informed us that the facility is for the community, to rebrand the far east side, I love that! Inside you'll find a coffee shop, which wasn't open when I came, but I'd love to come back and try it out. They offer day passes to utilize what they have to offer or you can become a member. The building is fairly new and each room has a name that relates to the east side. The room we worked in was called "The Mitt" which refers to the street "Mitthoefer." They have a large parking lot for easy access. I'm thinking of using a day pass to have a study session, try the coffee, and explore more of what this place has to offer.
