    Broad Ripple

I had the chance recently to do some podcast recording at Round Table Recording Company…read more Round Table is a multi-studio recording company that offers recording, custom production, educational programs, and even the ability to monetize work. Folks here have worked with the likes of Gavin DeGraw, Snoop Dogg, The Goo Goo Dolls, DMX, B.o.B., Big Sean, Mac Miller, Mike Posner, The Fray, Jadakiss, Alanis Morissette, Tory Lanez, Stereophonics, William Michael Morgan, Big Smo, Jelly Roll, Nappy Roots, Ryan Tedder, Busta Rhymes, Wiz Khalifa, Mike Epps, and John Legend. I was here for fairly simple podcast recording. In this setting, it's reasonable to be concerned about accessibility. This is a modestly-sized building in Broad Ripple with a handful of parking spots. Street parking is also available all around it. They do have one accessible parking spot, not quite ADA, but I opted to park on the street as it gave me better access. The side entrance works better for accessibility. I had no trouble getting in it in a wheelchair. The doorways were right about 32" - right at ADA requirements. I also found the studio to be pretty darn workable with one bit of a bump to get over some cords. The podcast set-up was ideal for a wheelchair, though I will note they also knew I was coming in advance. I find in unique settings it's just helpful to let folks know in advance. The staff I met were all friendly and helpful. The setting was inviting and very conducive to recording. I'd imagine I was in one of the smaller studios, though it looked like it could be easily adapted. I'm not an expert in recording, however, I was impressed with the set-up and the effort to make guests comfortable. This was a positive experience all around for me and definitely made me intrigued about the idea of my own podcast recording in the future. I would easily return.

I've been recording at round table for maybe like a year or so. Stereotypical jokes more often than none. With that being said over time I couldn't help but notice their staff isn't very diverse. I want to bring my husband and kids to my sessions but I'm afraid they'd be offended or feel not welcomed  :-/

Alan Johnson and The Static Shack are a class act. I have had the honor of working in this studio…read morefor more than a decade on so many various projects, different diverse styles, making records, even having rehearsals. Alan is a national treasure, one of the best and always works with the best. He has engineered, produced, mixed and mastered more records than anyone I know and every time he is flawless. The times that I have been lucky enough to be under his microscope, I have felt like he is relentless in bringing out the best of me and others with a calm, easy yet serious and disciplined devotion to make sure things come out right every time. Consistency would be a good word to describe his work as well, there's never any fall to fatigue or a wear out with this guy. The room is fabulous (well, all of the rooms.) It is a very welcoming, calming environment and a great place to be creative and really get great work done. One of the only studios in town with a grand piano, a Hammond B-3 and so many other great tools at your disposal. Another perk is, with the amount of talent that Alan is in touch with, you never know who you're going to run into, which is always pleasant surprise. Whether you are working with a national artist or someone unexpectedly drops in to check on a mix, pick up material, etc. The stories and laughs we share in the control room are always motivating...(oh and the pretzels.) I am honored to have gotten to record in this room and have Alan Johnson as the captain of this ship and be such a loyal friend and teacher for so many years. I'm also thankful for the people that he has brought into my life that I otherwise would have never met.

The Static Shack is quality in every way. All of the gear is star-of-the-art, and Alan's mixing…read moretalents and skills are off the charts.

Ashley and The Cosmos - band set up

    Ashley and The Cosmos

If you're looking for a wedding band, look no further. Ashley and The Cosmos were amazing -…read moreeverything was a blast from start to finish. They learned Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith for our first dance (not an easy song) and even made my dad's dream father daughter dance a reality (Circle of Life into the verse from The End by The Beatles). We hired the live pianist for our cocktail hour, had a blast with the wedding party introductions, and all night. It ended with all of our wedding guests standing in a circle swaying to Piano Man by Billy Joel. I'll never forget that moment - just perfection (and they're a great price). We got married at Notre Dame and they happily traveled for us - don't waste your money on an overpriced wedding band out of Chicago - Ashley and The Cosmos can't be beat!

When it came to searching for a band in the Indianapolis area (considering I was planning my wedding from San Francisco), I had no idea where to start. I actually made a post on Gig Salad, and Ashley responded to that. When I saw in her email signature that Ashley and The Cosmos were named Best Indiana Wedding Band by TheKnot.com, I knew they had to be my band! From our very first email exchange well over a year ago, Ashley has gone above and beyond. She was by far one of the most helpful and responsive vendors I worked with throughout my planning process, and she's played at a ton of venues around Indianapolis so she knows how their setups work for her band. When we decided to have our reception at my parents' home, she helped us figure out how much space they'd need for the stage, how much power we'd need, etc. They have a really fun set list with lots of contemporary songs and it's organized by decade. As part of their reception package, which runs under $2000, you can ask them to learn 2 songs, which is really nice. The reception package also gets you an hour of live piano during cocktail hour, soft DJ music through dinner, they MC the event (entrances, cake cutting, speeches, etc.), and then play three hours of non-stop music. So, our cocktail hour began at 6:15, and between speeches, cake cutting and dinner, by the time dancing began, they ended up playing until 11:40pm. Ashley and The Cosmos have a great feel for the energy of the crowd, and know how to keep people dancing. The dance floor was packed all night long, even though we had an unbelievably hot outdoor reception. We had so many guests tell us afterward that it was the most fun they've ever had at a wedding, and I credit that all to Ashley and her crew!
