The Carmel Digital Media Lab deserves 10 stars for how awesome it is. And best of all, all of the…read moreservices that they provide are free to the community! So, if you need to use some photo-editing software (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.) or want to record a podcast or some music (they have a recording room) or take some headshots (they have profession lighting equipment available), then you can. They really want everyone to stop in and be creative. The only thing they charge for is the use of their 3-D printer. But it's a nominal charge and depends on the size of the thing you want to create. I believe the prices are tiered, and they go from $3 to $5 to $7. But even at $7, that's a deal to use a 3-D printer! When we stopped by, the librarian at the desk was making some fangs or teeth or something crazy like that. The people who work here are super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about all the equipment and services. They are also frequently setting up community events, such as evening group photo shoots around the Arts District and photo contests. I am so glad that the Carmel Library created the Digital Media Lab. It's such a benefit to the community!

We visited during an open house as part of the Gallery Walk. I had no idea this awesome place even existed! I am very glad we found it and think it is an amazing extension of the library! They have 3-D Printers and they can make you things for just the cost of materials! It was so cool to see the printers in action and we ordered some PI earrings and an SD card tray to keep all our cards in one place. It takes a few days to a week till your item is done, but they thought the tray would take 4 hours to print so not like you want to wait for it. I am super excited to get our newly printed items. They had some examples out to see. But I bet they can make even more! You pay with paypal before you pick up. At the open house we got to hop in front of a green screen and they photoshopped us into a boat scene! You can also sign up to use the computers and I saw on their FB page they sometimes offer classes! This is such an amazing place! They even have an audio recording suite and you can do a podcast! Make sure you get your library card and check it out!

Get yourself and all your relatives enrolled at this place. Adults or kids- doesn't matter. You won't regret it! The staff is tons of fun and really know their stuff. The Rock Band program is awesome and a genius way to keep kids learning and growing. If you're not sure about it, just go to a performance; you will see these kids transform. The confidence these guys inspire in their students is amazing, and anyone who has had to get on stage and perform can recognize the enormity of that feat. The kids also get some bonus lessons in accountability and responsibility to each other and the band, plus relationships that could forge the next Top 100 band. Add to that they are very professional, reliable, and reasonably priced- a trifecta you don't usually find in the musician crowd- there's really no excuse for you not enrolling here right now. I am an adult student myself; a hobbyist in recording looking to fill in some of the foundational gaps. Co-owner Ryan has generously let me set my own curriculum; bring in my own mixes and work on whatever issue I am encountering that week. My mixes are sounding 100% better and I have learned all kinds of tricks I would have never found in the books or online tutorials. They have all kinds of top-tier gear in there and the know-how to use it; everything I have heard tracked or mixed in their studio has sounded super clean and ready for some professional mastering. This place is the real deal and has something for everyone- I can't say enough nice things about it. Give them a call and chat with one of the owners on the phone. Your inner rockstar will be so happy you did it!

I had the chance recently to do some podcast recording at Round Table Recording Company…read more Round Table is a multi-studio recording company that offers recording, custom production, educational programs, and even the ability to monetize work. Folks here have worked with the likes of Gavin DeGraw, Snoop Dogg, The Goo Goo Dolls, DMX, B.o.B., Big Sean, Mac Miller, Mike Posner, The Fray, Jadakiss, Alanis Morissette, Tory Lanez, Stereophonics, William Michael Morgan, Big Smo, Jelly Roll, Nappy Roots, Ryan Tedder, Busta Rhymes, Wiz Khalifa, Mike Epps, and John Legend. I was here for fairly simple podcast recording. In this setting, it's reasonable to be concerned about accessibility. This is a modestly-sized building in Broad Ripple with a handful of parking spots. Street parking is also available all around it. They do have one accessible parking spot, not quite ADA, but I opted to park on the street as it gave me better access. The side entrance works better for accessibility. I had no trouble getting in it in a wheelchair. The doorways were right about 32" - right at ADA requirements. I also found the studio to be pretty darn workable with one bit of a bump to get over some cords. The podcast set-up was ideal for a wheelchair, though I will note they also knew I was coming in advance. I find in unique settings it's just helpful to let folks know in advance. The staff I met were all friendly and helpful. The setting was inviting and very conducive to recording. I'd imagine I was in one of the smaller studios, though it looked like it could be easily adapted. I'm not an expert in recording, however, I was impressed with the set-up and the effort to make guests comfortable. This was a positive experience all around for me and definitely made me intrigued about the idea of my own podcast recording in the future. I would easily return.
