He met with us twice before the wedding to discuss music, flow of the reception, and got to know us a little bit so he could understand our personalities. He completely catered to us and nailed everything. I really appreciate how he asked us to make a short playlist to understand some of our "must-plays" but didn't necessarily need us to compile music for the whole night. He took the 8-10 songs that we came up with, of course played them, but kept the party going with more and more songs that fit in perfectly. Not having to curate the entire night's music was definitely taking a load off of our backs and it was great that he was able to understand the genres we liked and kept it going. Cannot speak highly enough of Chris -- you absolutely must book him for your wedding or other event!

For years, Shelton Auditorium was home to the Repertory Theatre at CTS (Christian Theological…read moreSeminary). Over time, that live theater company would become known as Edyvean Repertory Theater. These days, the Christian Theological Seminary continues in the building that now is under the Butler University umbrella and this theater falls under the Butler Arts Center. It continues to host a wide variety of events throughout the year. Shelton Auditorium has nearly 400 seats in the Greek-style tradition. The building itself is mid-century pre-Gothic and was designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes. It opened in 1966. In most ways, Shelton is very accessible. There's a nicely done parking lot (free parking) and multiple accessible spots. There's a nicely done concrete ramp into the entrance. The theater itself is accessible, though Greek-style has always been one of my least favorite designs as it typically means I'm sitting at the top (think Beef & Boards, though this one is more accessible). A major plus here is that the stage itself is accessible (as someone who was a theater minor, this matters to me). I've actually performed on this stage - I think it was probably 35 years ago in the play Whose Life Is It Anyway?). I think this is one of Indy's unsung stages. It's a solid mid-range stage that won't necessarily draw A-listers or B-listers because of its size, however, it is awesome more intimate shows, lectures, regional comedy, local/regional theatrical troupes and more. The acoustics are wonderful, employees/volunteers always friendly, and the atmosphere feels consistent with its seminary roots. Grateful I got back to the Shelton for a holiday show. It reminded me how much I love this place and how much I need to be a more frequent guest.

I had blocked off my calendar for 7-11 PM for August 19th, but never checked to see what show I had purchased tickets for when the day came I had assumed I purchased tickets to the 7 PM show so we could have dinner at Chatham like we normally do after a Butler event, but it turns out I purchased tickets to the 9:30 PM showing so we could eat dinner BEFORE the show. Super embarrassing, but the staff were all so friendly and understanding. They had even asked if we wanted to just stay for the 7 PM showing since we were already there, but we decided to go to dinner since we knew we had good seats for our actual time slot and didn't want to risk getting seated somewhere further away. The auditorium is gorgeous! We had thought all of the event spaces for Butler were all near each other since we had never been to the Shelton Auditorium before, but it's about 5 minutes away from the other ones. The show was so fun, and again all of the staff were so nice, and they had a concessions just outside the entrance to the auditorium with additional bars on either side before you walked down to your seats, so there was never a wait. It was such a cozy feel and the acoustics were great. Can't wait to come back!

The hostess was extremely friendly and she appeared to be very knowledgeable about the plans and how to take care of them. Not only did we get to make our own planter, but we also got to check out a new brewery or 'new to us' as We both had never been to Round Town brewery. The tender there was very courteous and offered samples and even suggested a really good mixture of their beers. For the actual event, it's pretty low-key and casual. You walk in and make sure you find whoever is hosting it so you can check in. Then you find the class that you want and sit there. Whomever is leading the event will walk you through every step of the way and answer any questions you have. The only thing that I felt was a little bit misleading about this event was that you pay for admission and then you also have to pay for a supplies fee on top of that. I feel like it would just be so much easier if you just clumped it all into one free.

I like the variety of their pictures as well as the location of their events. They travel to various restaurants to use as venues. Two of my visits have been to the Hard Rock Cafe downtown Indianapolis and one to the Spaghetti Factory since that is fairly close to my home. The restaurant staff tends to be very friendly and you get your choice of the entire menu and bar. So lots of variety, a big plus... but you also need to tip, a little downside... well I do tend to spend way too much on food and drink always... Generally the event is set up in a smaller private room, this way we can paint and follow the instructor without the usual restaurant/bar noises, which is a good thing. The instructors/artists tend to be funny or at least try... there are just so many jokes you can make and so if you go more often, you'll hear the same jokes again. They also try to entertain you with silly games while you wait for your paint to dry, because we all know, just watching the paint dry is not a highly rated activity. So far they have always been helpful if you need more paint, towels, help with the picture, repeat instructions cause you were running your mouth and not paying attention... And let's just mention that you really truly do NOT need any talent in order to paint a picture once the artists break it down for you into little easy to follow steps. And generally there are some discount codes flying around, I found a Groupon for my session and you can win a free event sometimes, and generally they give you a discount code to use for your next event.. that's how they keep you coming back ... a fun experience, a cool picture to brag with and a discount code...

Came here for the candlelight concert for the Joe Hisaishi night. It was lovely! For those who…read moredon't know, there's a big parking lot for the cathedral in the back. I was planning on paid street parking so that was a plus! We got tickets in section C but it didn't make much of a difference in the smaller space we were in which was really nice. It felt like such an intimate experience! When you walk in, you get to walk past the stage area and can see all the candles and even though they're battery operated, it still makes the space look so cozy and inviting. Once we were seated, the musicians came out and played select pieces from many of the Miyazaki movies. The audience was respectful and quiet which really helped in a space like that to hear properly. The musicians performed so well and I'd love to come back for another show! The time goes by super fast (granted it's only about an hour).
