My daughter and I just switched eye doctors, and based on his good reviews, we chose total vision eyecare, and Dr. Alpert. The first thing I noticed, upon walking in was how spacious, clean, and not crowded the office was. Our appointments were back to back; The women working at the front desk were both personable and helpful. We waited maybe five minutes each to be seen...not long at all. I was impressed especially by the technology in his office because my previous eye doctor did not have anything like this. I felt like I was at an arcade, with all of the different machines meant to measure my vision. It seemed like a very thorough exam that didn't just rely on what I said but actual computer technology. I don't know about you, but whenever I'm getting my eyes checked, I almost feel like it's a test and I might be answering it wrong. I felt like the various machines prevented me from second-guessing myself. Dr. Alpert himself was very friendly, personable, and asked multiple times if I had any questions about anything we were discussing. For many years, I had gone to a different eyecare center and would get a prescription and then buy my glasses online. Based on his very thorough exam, and recommendations from the doctor, we went with eyeglasses that did cost a significant amount more than I'm used to paying. However, I do believe that we will get what we pay for when they come in, which is expected to be in the next two weeks The young man who helped us pick out frames was very patient as I couldn't make up my mind. I appreciated that he pointed out some frames that were on sale for us since I was buying two pair and we do not have insurance for them. I really like supporting a local doctor who isn't part of a big fancy conglomeration and I look forward to staying with this practice for many years to come. If you're young, don't go here. They will take advantage trying to charge you more. I was told about an additional 299$ 1 year warranty for a 1-time repair along with fancy protection features like UV rays; yada yada. I declined, thereafter they decided charge another 299 to my glasses anyways, which was fully covered by the insurance. They switched up, lied & I declined, thus wasted my time doing all that just to pay or not pay in the end to a bunch of dishonest scum. read more

The person who answered the phone is very unprofessional. I told her in the very beginning that I have a prescription from elsewhere and just want to make an appointment to shop for glasses. But she kept asking for my personal information like name and birthday, whether I'm a new patient (I already repeatedly said I had prescription!), etc., without simply taking a look at whether an appointment is available for the day. Why do they need my birthday for shopping glasses? Then, upon hearing that my insurance is VSP, she said they didn't take VSP and then immediately hung up. Very rude. read more

Let me start by saying I very poor eyesight. I have had Type 1 diabetes for 10 years, had to wear bifocals since 3rd grade, and have worn contact lenses (both hard and soft) for 14 years. I take my eyecare seriously, and I will always go to Totalvision Eyecare in Manchester. I am always greeted by the friendly staff right as I walk in the door. When I schedule eye health appointments the wait is rare and never long. I've often seen many walk-in patients get speedy service for quick repairs and other eye trouble. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly while performing all the required eye health tests. Dr. Alpert has been my eye doctor for over 20 years. He is quick and efficient at assessing my vision needs, correcting my lense prescription, and maintaining my eye health-especially concerning any diabetic complications and family history of Glaucoma. Dr. Alpert and staff are very good about communicating with my other specialist doctors. I wear contacts for the majority of the day, the contact specialist, Mary, has always helped recommend the latest and best lenses to meet my needs and budget. I love picking out new glasses frames because I know that the staff is knowledgeable about fitting prescription lenses into appropriate frames, recommending quality brands, and aware of current styles. I love how I get everyone's opinion on which of the 4 frames would look best. It is this service, attention, and care that help make the Manchester Totalvision a step above the rest of those in the area. read more

Dr. Alpert is simply the best: personable, knowledgeable, answers questions directly and in an easily understood manner. He keeps up with the latest technology and is adept at dealing with insurance companies. My family has relied on his care for many years and have never been disappointed. His office staff, despite having changed over the years, have always been friendly and efficient. When my employer changed vision plans I briefly tried another provider for my glasses (in order to remain "in network") but quickly returned to TotalVision. I am willing to pay a little more for frames and lenses there because you get what you pay for, including a two year warranty and walk-in repairs on those rare occasions when they have become necessary.. read more

I have been getting great eye care from Dr. Alpert for years, and although I have moved to West Hartford, I still travel to Manchester to see him. He and his staff are very knowledgeable and customer-service-oriented. Dr. Alpert clearly loves his work, and his exams involve a mixture of high-tech equipment and traditional eye assessment. He keeps up-to-date on the latest research in his field (and will enthusiastically share the information if you would like) and incorporates this into his daily practice. Doctor exam was very comprehensive, didn't rush me out the door took time to discuss how my eye sight is changing and how a different contact lenses prescription would help me when working on the computer. I'm pretty sure that disclosing the health/surgical history of a patient without consent constitutes a HIPAA violation, or at the very least, gross unprofessionalism. Dr.Alpert is great as are most of his staff. However the lady who handles the glasses, is another story. My initial visit went fine until I needed to change my lenses out. Waited 25 minutes while she gabbed with another customer. The customer even asked if someone was waiting, and was told it was fine. So I finally order my new lenses. Waited two weeks for them to call. Made the appointment, four days out. Get there, wait ten minutes. All for her to come back with my same lenses. Somehow my new ones were cut wrong. Now I suppose I'll be waiting another two weeks. Got no discount, not rush order, nothing. $220. For these lenses. And enough aggravation for a lifetime. Whatever happened to customer service. This will be our last visit to this office. read more

beware!! don't ask questions I have a clogged pore on my eyelid, and i asked dr. alpert if he could help me with it? he immediately declined and gave me a recommendation to a dr. in glastonbury. great! thanks. Then I received a bill for $165 for consultation fee. No amount of reasoning with the office staff has reduced this exhorbitant fee, from the expert, even $1. So disappointing. How typical. He will never see me again, and I will warn all friends and family away from this practice. read more

Dr. Alpert is absolutely amazing. I've been going there on and off for years. I hurt my eye about 8 months ago and while I'm a little over dramatic he and his staff were absolutely fantastic and joked back and forth with me over the situation(it was really funny I accidentally punched myself in the face and scratched my eye) it's so rare nowadays to find a doctor of any variety that treats you like an actual human and not a insurance policy number. On another note there was one aspect I that made me actually rather sad. The woman Mary that works there was helping me pick out glasses and holy moly have I never felt so ugly in my life. She kept handing me glasses that I didn't like but any that I did like or pick out myself she literally sighed at, shrugged her shoulders and said they were just alright. Luckily I've worked really hard on my self esteem because if that was 5 years ago it would of absolutely destroyed me. The glasses I picked out, which were not Mary approved and she made sure to let me know that, we're marked wrongly and she basically had the attitude of "oh well not my fault not my problem" which it's a state law that if something is priced lower than it scans you have to give it to the person for the price it was marked. Which she wasn't going to do anything about till I told her about the law and that she huffed away to talk to the doctor. I got my glasses THAT I LOVE AND THINK LOOK WONDERFUL ON ME for the price they were marked. But not without a snide remark from this out of place Mary of "its only 50 dollars" I believe it's time for Mary(and most other baby boomers) to retire and save society from their poor attitudes and self righteousness. I will of course still patron Total Eye Care but will request I deal with someone else besides Mary. I truly hope I caught her(on 2 bad days?) and she hasn't made anyone else feel the way I have because it could really be devastating for someone. I'm praying for you Mary. read more

I'm disappointed. I went to the store for some glasses. Mind you I've been a customer for a while now. I had changed insurance carrier and the lady at the desk was clueless as to the insurance process. I asked do you carry my insurance carrier and she said yes. She kept saying she did not know what coverage I would have or how to access it since the carrier did not provide an insurance card. I went back to my office and did what she should have done, I contacted the insurance carrier and got the information. The info was online. All she needed to do was take my name and date of birth. The insurance carrier would take care of the rest. This led me to think that my business was not wanted. She just laid back on the chair and said I don't know. Me being the owner of this establishment I would be upset because she just lost me a client and the sales. Like I said I was a prior customer and had been treated with good customer service, but not this time. read more
