Well, that was the 1st I have heard that I had cataracts, and I told her there was no way in the world she was going to operate on my eyes. She said that she may not allow me to drive. Now, I can decide if I'm safe to drive or not. I asked her if she was legally required to report it to the DMV and she said no, but sometimes she does - well, first, that's illegal. That is against HIPPA. Second, I am NOT going to let anyone bully me into something I am not comfortable with - especially with SOMEONE I'm not comfortable with. For that, alone, I will never go back to them. Also, though, the visit before that, I think I got the wrong script for my glasses because the glasses I had were not good, and she said my eyes got better - I know for a fact that was not true. I still haven't gotten my new prescription...

I made the mistake of selecting this place based on the reviews found on Google, so for those who…read moredon't know--those reviews are not reliable because positive ratings there can be bought from bot farms in China and elsewhere. First off, the doctor's services are professional, but customer service was substandard. When I first arrived, the woman at the front desk mentioned that there "might" be a fee for my contact lens fitting. I didn't think much of it at the time. I should've asked how much, because it turned out to be much more than expected. Ok, fine. But what bothered me was that I didn't find out until it was time to settle the bill. It felt like an ambush. The other humourless woman that helped me select my lenses seemed annoyed at my insurance coverage questions, and I couldn't get a straight answer about the total out-of-pocket expense, including the fee that was dumped on me. Everything was an evasive reply, or a "gotcha" answer. The visit ended costing way more than I had planned. The thing about cash grabs, is that they only work once. So forget about repeat customers. Lesson learned.

They called me up and said that I owed an additional $80 because "it was a diabetic medical exam and that it went to the deductible. I called my insurance company and they said that they were not in network and that the billing code was correct. They actually billed the insurance company an extra medical fee, which was rejected because it's included in the coding for the original eye exam. The practice was not in network at the time of my exam and tried to bill me the out of network fee. The other issue is is that the doctor will not give you your paper prescription for your eyeglasses until you buy the eyeglasses from them. I asked the doctor for my prescription and he said that when I picked up my glasses, he would give it to me. I have never had this happen before. As far as my prescription itself, I'm still not seeing very clearly.

I drove to Primary Eye Care Center in Bloomfield because they are much closer then my usual optometrist's office. It was very busy when I arrived. I was okay with the wait because I had no appointment, nor had I ever been here before. I waited around an hour, when the very nice lady named Denise said she was ready for me. I handed her my lens and my frame, she took them to her station, in around five minutes the job was done. My glasses were also sparkling clean! Denise didn't charge me a penny for her work. Our appointments were back to back; The women working at the front desk were both personable and helpful. We waited maybe five minutes each to be seen...not long at all. I was impressed especially by the technology in his office because my previous eye doctor did not have anything like this. I felt like I was at an arcade, with all of the different machines meant to measure my vision. It seemed like a very thorough exam that didn't just rely on what I said but actual computer technology. I don't know about you, but whenever I'm getting my eyes checked, I almost feel like it's a test and I might be answering it wrong. I felt like the various machines prevented me from second-guessing myself. Dr. Alpert himself was very friendly, personable, and asked multiple times if I had any questions about anything we were discussing. For many years, I had gone to a different eyecare center and would get a prescription and then buy my glasses online. Based on his very thorough exam, and recommendations from the doctor, we went with eyeglasses that did cost a significant amount more than I'm used to paying. However, I do believe that we will get what we pay for when they come in, which is expected to be in the next two weeks The young man who helped us pick out frames was very patient as I couldn't make up my mind.
